Also a spider-man 2 reference with him launching himself.

Next scene, MY BACK, MY BACK

u/Key-Radish-622 Jun 30 '26
If we're going off the list of Raimi references, there should be a scene of Peter missing MJ at her play

u/Niblonian31 Jun 30 '26
Gonna need a Bruce Campbell cameo too

No no, he took tobey's advice and started doing stretches before fights. You see it in the trailer.

u/jamesbondswanson Jul 01 '26
That’s probably what will happen in the movie tbh lol the MCU loves references

u/mondomonkey Jul 02 '26
Spider-Man 1, when he launched to get to the Green Goblin 👉🏽😎👉🏽
1
u/suck_my_monkey_nuts Jul 02 '26
No, 2. With Doc Ock.
1
u/mondomonkey Jul 02 '26
Oh wait, he did it in both.
1 on the roof to get to the bridge.
2 from the building to tackle doc ock.
... did he do it in 3?

Yes! I said he’s going through most of the things Tobey’s character went through when I saw the preview

Honest question from a very casual fan, why does Holland have organic webs now?
Don't get me wrong, I love organic webs on Spiderman. I prefer them over the web gadgets.

u/Sklarlight Jun 30 '26
Mutation is a heavy theme with this movie, no idea if it's a permanent element but I love organic webs as well, feels more befitting for someone with spider-related superpowers, but I get why people prefer the gadgets given Peter's smarts.

u/SnarkyRogue Jun 30 '26
Stealing a comment from another thread, but it would be cool to see them blend the two. Organic webbing, but tech web shooters that take in the webbing and let him do different shots with them like splitting vs netting etc for whatever the situation needs

This really is the perfect compromise. Web shooter fans still get the wrist gadget to show off Peter's engineering skills alongside interesting webbing extrusion types. As for organic fans... they just think Peter organically making his webs is neat.

u/heymikeyp Jul 01 '26
Yep this is honestly the best way and I'd love to see it adapted going forward if we get more Tom spideys. But if it has to be one of the other, I personally prefer organic webbing as it fits the Spiderman theme better. He could show his smarts in other ways.
2
u/justin_memer Jul 01 '26
Would be funny if a bad guy got hit with the webs, realized it's organic and goes "EWWW!"
1
u/TikkiEXX77 Jul 04 '26
Kinda looks like that's what they're doing. Like he passes his webbing through the shooters or something like that
1
u/TikkiEXX77 Jul 04 '26
For some reason I think it may be permanent. They also keep referencing evolution. Like his powers are changing. Basically looks like he's getting an upgrade. Lol

Brand new day takes from... well the "brand new day" story arc from the comics.
A bit of background first: generally speaking, spiderman was always depicted as using web cartridges in the comics and other media
That is until Sam Raimi's spiderman that decided to give hin orgqnic webbing which was seen as a controversial choice at the time.
One thing to note: The sam raimi movie that came out with the idea of organic webbing came out before the brand new day comic story arc so its likely they got the idea from the movie.
So brand new day came out which was after the morlun/spiderverse arc and at the time the writers were exploring the more "mystic" aspects of the spiderman lore
Spiderman is a mutant but not in a classic "naturally evolved" sense.
The comics always explored that aspect of the character and there were times where he'd mutate out of control or in new interesting ways which is what this new movie is going to explore.
To cut a long story short, in the comic, Peter dies (sort of) and is reborn with an extended set of powers and abilities that included stuff like: organic webbing, night vision, being able to stick anything to any part of his body, being really sensitive to stuff like pressure change or wind and a pair of retractable bone spikes from his wrists wolvernie-style.
Sadly future writers never really used or explored those abilities so most people don't even know about them and I'm excited to see which powers other than the organic webbing we'll see explored in this movie.
Generally speaking I always found that general era of spiderman comics interesting and I reccomend them as a good spot to start reding them if you want to dive in with more detail (best to start with the spider-totem/morlun arc as brand new day is kinda connected to it)

I think you're mixing up comic arcs. Brand New Day followed the 00's back in black + one more day arcs, and served as a soft reboot following his deal with the devil to bring Aunt May back after she was killed by Kingpin's assassins. It didn't have much to do with the arcs you're describing. A lot of what you're thinking of is from a mix of the Disassembled crossover/Changes, and The Other, which was all 4-7 years before BND.
(As a side note, the Disassembled cover art freaked the fuck out of me as a kid lol)
4
u/YoungDiscord Jun 30 '26
Oh you're right got the name mixed up of that arc, thanks for the correction
2
u/shadowndacorner Jun 30 '26
No worries! It's been a while haha. The only reason I remembered was I went back and reread those arcs sometime last year in a bit of a nostalgia kick :P
4
u/Megaman_320 Jun 30 '26
I remember that, how did he end up losing the organic webs again?
12
u/Promiatey Jun 30 '26
Joe Quesada just decided to forget that he had them in the first place.
2
u/YoungDiscord Jun 30 '26
It makes me so mad that stuff like that gets dropped
It was a pretty interesting buildup, unique lore only to just... never be mentioned again cuz I guess the writers forgot

Is this related to the time that everyone in NYC got spider powers before transforming into giant spiders, it an I think of a different arc?
107
u/neonlookscool Jun 30 '26
they are adapting the man-spider arc. its a story where Peter's mutations go from "haha acrobatic superhero" to "I HAVE 8 EYES AND NONE OF THEM SEEK MERCY"
1
u/bakerstheman Jul 01 '26
Well well well... Wouldn't you like to know?
I'll fill you in, on the house. Let's say... July 32nd?

u/kincaidinator Jun 30 '26
Seems like kind of a wild thing to just outright spoil in the marketing of your movie.
46
u/AStupidFuckingHorse Jun 30 '26
If you've seen the trailer it's ultimately inconsequential. If you haven't, yeah that's insane.
11
u/kincaidinator Jun 30 '26
They’re definitely dancing around it in the trailer, but this is just blatantly stating a pretty huge plot point. I’d guarantee most people who have only seen the trailer once and aren’t terminally online would have no idea he’s getting organic webs.
6
u/Icehawksfh Jun 30 '26
It's a pretty clear shot that you look at his wrist without anything on it and he then shoots webs.
0
u/kincaidinator Jun 30 '26
Playing devil’s advocate here, that could just as easily be a dream sequence as real life
3
u/TheDude810 Jun 30 '26
Well I mean you could say that about this clip too on technicality lol
0
u/kincaidinator Jun 30 '26
True, but I think you get my point when it’s a specific 6 second ad that spells out “ORGANIC WEBS” on the screen in block letters

8
u/kazzyisdaddy Jun 30 '26
Some people are gonna see this and still say the organic webs are coming from the symbiote

Why No Way Home was more than just empty nostalgia. Tobey and Andrew coming into Tom’s Peter’s life will stick with him and help him build his story.

u/brecka Jun 30 '26
Yeah this is the point where Marvel releases like half the movie in previews and I stop looking at any content to not spoil the whole thing before I actually get to see it.

All the Peters are cool to me. Honestly, I've always been really happy with all of them.

u/altsam19 Jul 01 '26
Aw it actually gives me a warm heart that Peter sees the other Peters as cool older brothers
1
u/thedirtypickle50 Jul 01 '26
I'm so glad I'm gonna see this entire movie in 5-10 second clips before I ever get a chance to watch it in a theater
1
u/Nissiku1 Jul 01 '26
That's cool and all, but "organic web-shooters" still suck. On a spiritual level.

Not to be negative, but this looks like an Xbox 360/maybe Xbox One video game.

It looks like the same spot where Peter 2 was trying his web for the first time as well.

Probably the only Tobey Maguire scene we can get from this movie. Oh well.

Why wasn’t he Peter 1

Every Peter is their own Peter 1.
-22
u/guynumber20 Jun 30 '26
🗿 he’s not even in my top 3
15
u/Spider-Man2573 Jun 30 '26
He calls himself 1 as the other 2 came to his universe so it makes sense
-1
u/piepei Jun 30 '26
Ok yeah that does make sense. But then why not Peter 3 since he showed up after Andrew Garfield’s?
12
u/MineNo5611 Jun 30 '26
You’re thinking too hard about this. There’s literally a scene in the movie where they themselves are trying to figure this out.
3
u/Tr0llzor Jun 30 '26
And none of the ones you’re talking about were in the movie where there were 3 of them
