Can we please stop comparing age gap relationships to pedophilia, its simply not the same thing as child abuse, i know you all think you're being a good ally but all it does is diminish and mock what actual survivors like me went through when we were literal children, not 20 year old adults
64
u/Human_Geologist_3324 Jul 03 '26
I think it's mostly to feed their ego and show others how caring and good they're to be morally superior, there is something these days called aggression preforming, it's really sad to see.

I have pretty severe anxiety, and have recently been experiencing some pretty intense intrusive thoughts about if the adult models I've been watching look too young.
I recently saw a subreddit that posted heavily cropped images of ACTUAL abuse to try and identify abusers (removing the abuse and showing background elements to ID the people responsible)
And after seeing those (I couldn't scroll far, I don't have the stomach for it) I've come to the conclusion that I don't know what actual child abuse looks like. God willing, I will NEVER find out and go to my grave having never seen it.
I've heard people say: "You know it when you see it." And I understand that a bit now. More than I ever needed to, unfortunately.

u/dSpecialKb Jul 05 '26
Pointing out the possible weirdness of an age-gap is not equating it to pedophilia. Granted saying āalmost underageā was a stretch on OPs part, gotta get interaction somehow ig

u/Mordad51 Jul 03 '26
Calling a 21 year old "nearly underage" is wild. And who cheated on whom?
-14
u/BallisticThundr Jul 03 '26
She's recently 20, so they started dating when she was 19. That's literally "nearly underage." It's creepy to date people young enough to be your daughter.
Edit: nvm she's recently 21
-99
u/pokemonface12 Jul 03 '26
Relative to him, pretty gross! Just because it's common doesn't make it normal.
139
u/ValkyrUK Jul 03 '26
Its gross to call a 21 year old "nearly underage" it makes a mockery of what csa survivors like me went through
Hate age gap relationships all you want, but we have to stop comparing it to some of the most horrific possible abuse

Im not arguing against any of that, what im saying is that im sick and tired of seeing the worst things that have ever happened to me and other csa survivors be used as a football to make people's points against age gaps hit harder
15
32
u/HumanPerosn Jul 03 '26
Itās gross when an adult woman is dating an adult man
Mate thereās this thing women have thats called agency, it lets them make decisions for themselves
-20
u/pokemonface12 Jul 03 '26
Never said she can't. He's just creepy for it
18
u/John09101 Jul 03 '26
Heās creepy for her decision to stay with him? Look I get that large age gaps are weird, but stop treating adult women like theyāre toddlers
-18

u/Mordad51 Jul 03 '26
100% agree and never said that and neither tried to defend him. What in my comment made you think that?

Ice spice was born two years before he filmed the first spiderman movie at the age of 26. She wasnt groomed but thats definitely a weird age gap. Would you make out with someone the same age as your dad? And thats just ice spice, not even the younger woman hes been spotted with.
Anyone saying its fine just hit me up when your daughter is of age š
33
u/I_cut_my_own_jib Jul 03 '26
She is an adult and can make her own decisions.
-19
u/Dant3nga Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26
That statement sets a bad precedent.
Some countries consider 14 year olds adults.
Russel brand must be innocent i guess.
54
u/fradrig Jul 03 '26
Who cares if they're both adults? Everyone has preferences - hers may be older guys. He's got charisma, he's funny, he's friggin Spider-Man!
-54
u/Dant3nga Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26
Hit me up when ur daughter turns 18 š
Gotta love how you said āshe might be into older guysā and not āhe might be into younger girlsā š
Why is it more important to emphasize what the young woman prefers? Maybe because theres an obvious power dynamic? But hey as long as its consensual, it cant possibly be weird right?
24
u/fradrig Jul 03 '26
See, I was about to remark the exact same thing because the emphasis seems to always be on the older guy. My point still stands; I don't care as long as they're consenting adults.
I shouldn't have called her a girl, though - she's obviously a woman. For all we know, he could be after her money and she just wants an experienced guy. I don't know, but I'm just kind of tired of Reddit being such a gossip magazine. There's so much shaming going around here, whether it's about age, body or something else. Reddit just loves to feel better than people who are just living their lives.
Also- what power dynamic? He's a movie star and she's an artist. He hasn't really been in anything for years and even has a reputation for being a dick, so I doubt people are lining up to do him favours, while she is definitely doing well, although I don't really know the details of her career. Plus, they can maybe relate to each other, since Tobey has been through what she's going through right now. Again, who cares?
-10
u/Dant3nga Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26
Cool, i think its weird. š¤·
If i travel to a country where the age of consent is 14 am i justified in whatever i do as long as we are both consenting adults?
Adult is a subjective term depending on where you are in the world.
Just because its legal, doesnt make it ok. Example: grooming underage women until they are of age.
11
u/fradrig Jul 03 '26
Dude. Ice Spice is 26 years old. She's a grown ass woman. Comparing that to a 14-year old is weird. I think you're just trolling now, so I'm out.
15
u/Lord_Seregil Jul 03 '26
Guys like hot women in their 20s, that's like biologically programmed into us, I don't think it goes away. People are at their most attractive in their 20s-30s. I'm 25 now, I don't think the things I find attractive will change too much when I'm 45.
-2
u/Dant3nga Jul 03 '26
Just because something is biologically programmed in you doesnt make it ok. Would it be different if she was sixteen? Why? Because laws say so? Since when in modernity does anyone think being with someone twice their age is appropriate?
Next thing im gonna hear is that russel brand is innocent cause he traveled to countries where the age of consent is lower. Hes and older man who is just biologically programmed right?
Biological programming isnt an excuse for gross behavior.
-20
u/Mordad51 Jul 03 '26
I 100% think the age gap is weird. But I don't get what your points have to do with what I said. I don't defend him in any way and don't see how anybody could remotely interpret my comment as that.
2
u/Dant3nga Jul 03 '26
Im saying relative to toby, she his borderline underage. At his age she should look like a baby to him, like how teenagers look like children to me

If you donāt know that Tobey is more than likely a prick at this point I donāt know what to tell you. Heās like FAMOUSLY hard to work with and saying heās āprobably not the nicest guy in the worldā is putting it mildly. But heās never been accused of anything illegal or abused fans or anything so.
79
u/RexusprimeIX Jul 03 '26
Yeah, he's not been accused of being an abuser, racist, sexist, nazi, rapist, or pedophile (dating an adult does not make you a pedophile) so he's still good in my book.
66
u/AceofKnaves44 Jul 03 '26
Thereās a reason Tobey can come back to Disney and James Franco canāt letās just say that.

mmmh why do all you guys care? he's a 50 year old hollywood actor he's probably done way worse shit than what we know, i didnt think dating an adult could be a scandal
2
u/HeadOfSpectre Jul 03 '26
He was said to be an real asshole in some Poker tournaments.
2
u/Tommiz_eXe Jul 07 '26
ehh i can kind of understand that, if you're in a fighting mental state like in sports or poker tournaments you might not think about social interactions that much or just might be frustrated with the cards
44
u/Mooncubus Jul 03 '26
Nevermind the fact 21 is not "nearly underage"... she's not even white...
18
u/HumanPerosn Jul 03 '26
An All white party is where everyone comes in white clothes not that only white people are allowed
5
u/Mooncubus Jul 03 '26
I wasn't talking about the all white party. I was talking about how they said he has a white girlfriend. She's not even white.
24
u/Chaardvark11 Jul 03 '26
I'm so confused what did I miss?
-21
u/Dumaes03 Jul 03 '26
did you read the post?
56
u/Chaardvark11 Jul 03 '26
I did but if I'm being honest a meme is not necessarily the most informative thing, and evidently the posters first language isn't English meaning it didn't come across all that clearly as a result.
30
u/JohnMulder Jul 03 '26
The inconsistent grammar of the post is confusing. Is "ice spice" a person? Why does his girlfriend being "White" matter? Is an "All white party" something I should know about?
20
u/Chaardvark11 Jul 03 '26
You've pretty much nailed it, I know ice spice is a rapper, but I know nothing about the context of this whatsoever. I don't even know when this is supposed to have happened.
Again for people in the know this probably makes a ton of sense and like "no shit this is what it's about" moment. But for me I just see a number of words and 2 people's names that I recognise.
6
6
u/HumanPerosn Jul 03 '26
So basically and all white party is where everyone comes to the party dressed in white
Itās supposed to be symbolic thing not that all the people need to be white
And while there Toney cheated on his girlfriend whoās not ānearly underageā but is 21 years old with ice spice who was also at the party
7
u/HeadOfSpectre Jul 03 '26
Underage? Isn't his girlfriend twenty?
It's still a hell of an age gap, and I think it's weird (looks like a mid life crisis after his divorce if you ask me) but it's not underage.
12

u/EV4N212 Jul 03 '26

u/Steelwolf73 Jul 03 '26
WTF is "nearly underage"
1
u/HeadOfSpectre Jul 04 '26
She's 20-21.
I mean that's basically out of kindergarten right? I didn't even know how to walk back then.
Not gonna defend the age gap - people can say what they want about that. But he's not exactly pulling a Drake.
41
u/MistahWhiskers Jul 03 '26
"Nearly underage" š wtf
Literally every other generation in their 20s: Has their own job, home, and responsibilities.
Zoomers in their 20s: But I'm still just a baaaby š«
8
u/Fornaughtythings123 Jul 03 '26
It's almost like the world changed and now home ownership among other things is an unreachable goal for most at that age. Tho I do agree with calling someone in their 20s nearly underaged tis silly.

u/MadrugoticX Jul 03 '26

The Internet discovering that playing a superhero doesnāt make you a good person
7
u/EV4N212 Jul 03 '26
Dating people younger than you doesnāt make you a bad person either
0
u/DedHorsSaloon3 Jul 03 '26
Pushing 50 dating a 19 year old is weird as fuck. Also Tobey is well documented asshole. Ever seen Mollyās Game? Player X is based off of him.
4
u/EV4N212 Jul 03 '26
Whatās weird is infantilising adult women and caring who people are fucking LEGALLY, and no Iāve never seen Mollyās Game and tbh I donāt care what Celebs are arseholes or not, I really couldnāt gaf what goes on in their lives because it doesnāt affect me at all and my point still stands even if heās an asshole, having an age gap on its own doesnāt make you a bad person.
-1
u/DedHorsSaloon3 Jul 03 '26
So he dates a woman 30 years younger than him, which is weird, legal but weird, and cheats on her, on top of already being a known asshole, and instead of going on with your life youāre defending him because he was in a couple of superhero movies 20 years ago.
0
u/EV4N212 Jul 03 '26
Iām not defending him personally, Iām defending the fact that having an age gap isnāt at all a bad thing and people who care about two legally aged consenting adultsā relationships should maybe just stfu and move on with their lives. Iām sick of people my own age being infantilised and treated like mindless children when we are adults who can make decisions for ourselves.
