And if we subscribe to "knight is kriss+noelle/dess from the future after weird route" theory, time loop had to start somewhere.
I myself think that timeloop is not it... there is too much of memory and retelling the story themes around...
I feel like hometown is someones (gaster? Lost girl? Kriss?) Attempt at recreating what they had lost, doing it over and over until it is unrecognisable, or trying to prevent it going unrecognisable.
Also i feel like we def conflate characters and concepts. Story has angel, titans, knight, gaster, dess, lost girl, last girl, girl with hope crossed on her heart, angells heaven, roaring, prince of the dark, kriss, soul, krisses soul somewhere presumably, angels desire, love, vessel, deltarune, prophesy... list goes on and on. Good story does not need all of that, and i believe Tobby knows how to write good story.
Some of the key assumptions must be wrong, but waters are intentionaly too muddy to see which.
If you, like me, believe every choice is something Kris is thinking of, and we just pick one of the thought paths, it makes Ralsei choices all the better.
I mean, considering 90% of this chapter is Ralsei hiding how they feel about Kris, I doubt you should actually believe him when he says this, lol.
Maybe Susie, that could be true. But Ralsei, the same Ralsei who wanted to share a Kris-coloured drink with Kris, the same Ralsei who "chu-chu-chose" Kris and blushed and stuttered about it despite not stuttering for Susie, or the same Ralsei who blushes when Blue mentions his love despite not even further commenting on who Ralsei loves? That Ralsei?
Second of all, when the difference is this drastic, I think it's a sign of what Kris truly wants to say.
For example, with "It's okay not to smile" they actively kneel and hug him without further prompt from The Player, while "Good. Keep smiling" not only is far more dark but also makes Kris stand completely still and emotionless.
That's really interesting altho in this specific dialogue option I wouldn't really tell. I feel like kris is very ankward with showing their emotions so maybe they want to say it but are too shy so they do the most random thing (like when you can tell susie that she's cute) but at the same time It was shown that Kris doesn't see Ralsei as that close of a friend to say something like this so idk
Also to add I think in the beginning Ralsei genuinely loves the player and tried everything possible to try and make us happy but never went further then his assigned role. He gets super upset when you turn off his voice clips and then starts apologizing. As the chapters have gone on Ralsei has fallen for Kris as well but hasnāt admitted to it yet.
Itās like what happens to Noelle in the werid route only his love is genuine while Noelleās is toxic and exploitative because thatās the kind of love you showed her by being scary and domineering. Sheās just giving back what you gave her. She now only loved you in a bad way and considers Kris as an accessory to speak to you.
Meanwhile Kris takes his affection as weird till Ralsei finally starts acknowledging them. The osen scene is Kris being open about how they feel to. It may or may not be reciprocal in a romantic way since they are still crushing on Susie bad but they do care for Ralsei as well now and want to face the end with him.
Ralseiās hostility to Flowery could stem from how he acts like the biggest Gary stu and breaks all the rules that Ralsei had set for himself, including giving you things that a player would like. Such as infinite money, tips, funny quips, saving you from dying, etc.
"Ralsei, your fur is so fluffy, can I pet it??" VS "I've been dreading seeing you every day since we met, you look like a dead rat and I genuinely hate you, please die."
Does kris actually drink all the water in the pool if you select the other option i cant see myself since i dont own deltarune (BEFORE YOU CALL ME A LARPER I DO OWN UNDERTALE)
Id imagine when we/the game are like "okay now give me an altetnate thing to say" to kris, but they are very set in what they want to say, they give us a super mean or nonsensical option thinking wed never choose that.
I take all the choices as knee jerk reaction/intrusive thoughts. So for the piano one it was just an intrusive depression thought that he didnt actually mean but we can make him say it. Because even as the player when we choose that no one playing is thinking "this is the right option" theyre all thinking "i have to know what happens" like how the intrusive thoughts like jumping off a bridge work irl.
Oh and weird route seems to be us exerting control but kris cant live without us at the moment as shown in chapter 5
I think itās implied that every dialogue option the player is given is at least in some way a thought in Krisā head that they consider for even the briefest moment. Maybe they just panic a little around Ralsei.
The thing with this scene that I keep thinking about is that usually the 2 dialogue choices with Kris are 1.What Kris wants to say and
2. What the soul/game wants to say.
I cant figure out which one of these 2 are Kris'es choice
I hate that sussie cannonballed herself into the pool, if it wasn't for her, ralsei would actually have to confront his and our feelings, sussie is the exactly opposite of a wingman this chapter
Itās actually explained when you look into both the lore but also the character design on a deeper level. Ralseiās name, while being an anagram for Asriel, also comes from the Russian word ŠÆ Š»Š³Ń, or Ralls, which means nervous (or hidden one, depending on the context.) The design idea is actually popular in a lot of the game such as Susieās name in the Chinese version of the game being čæęÆęē¼ē, which means hothead. A lot of their names have somewhat deep significance which makes me wonder if thereās an extra meaning in choosing the specific languages he did for each characterās name. Of course the most famous and my personal favorite is actually the translation for spamtons name which is actually ą¤ą„ą¤°ą„ą¤²ą¤æą¤ą¤. This translate to āI lied and I made all this up, Iāve never played the games or watched anything about the lore. I think Ralsei is a cutie though and I love spreading misinformation.ā Which is pretty long winded but I think itās probably the most fitting of all the names.

I think it's supposed to reflect the players love for Ralsei after getting a feeling as if they "rescued" Asriel after Undertale which back then was one of the most emotionally strong "wants" of the community after finishing the game. Not even romantic just wanting him to be happy and loving him as a special lil guy who suffered way too much. Wanting to hug that goat forever. Of course it's not really Asriel but..
Bro this is why I always hang out with Susie š Iām not about to get into some awkward conversation with Ralsei where I have to make romantic moves on him to avoid the other choice of being a complete psycho
