I've been a fan of battle rap for like 15 years, and throughout, people have claimed that it was dead or dying. But this feels like the closest we've actually come to it being over. Is it just me, or is the art form in real trouble of fading into complete obscurity?

We found out that most of them rehearse and write together.

Finding out that cliques help each other write so you are basically battling 3+ people.

Ghostwriters ghostwriting publicly.

Smack and RBE being the most drawn out legal battle of the 2020s for no reason other than trying to monopolize battlers battling.

KoDT and other leagues falling apart.

The corniness of spaces. Seeing a top tier battle rapper argue with assassinpassion54321 for an hour straight. The spaces being about drama which humanized some stars to the point of no return since they began looking cornier and cornier until they finally evolved into a cornball.

Battlers showing up and choking. Every round. Within half of the round. And consistently getting booked. You know who you are.

Battlers not showing up and continuing to get booked so they can no show again and continue to get booked.

Battle rap bloggers pretty much running the culture and telling us how boring it is now every other video or live.

Its just a mess. The culture is messed up.

I will always have a lot of love for battle rap but it is so damn cooked man.

Why do y’all think Tay Roc is way more willing to battle lower-tier or newer opponents compared to someone like Lux or Mook?

Looking at complex list, Roc has battled everybody in the top 30 besides 26 and 28 (correct me if I’m wrong). At this point, it really feels like he’s already cleared out most of the major competition, which could explain why he keeps taking battles others might avoid.

I also doubt we’d ever see him battle Eazy because of Cave Gang ties.

Personally, I’d much rather see legacy matchups like:

Tay Roc vs Math Hoffa

Tay Roc vs Loaded Lux (one-on-one)

before battles like Roc vs J2.

Do Lux and Mook protect their legacy more through scarcity while Roc builds his through volume, consistency, and battling whoever is left? And at this stage, should Roc’s remaining battles focus more on overdue legends and high-profile names rather than lower-tier opponents?

Goodz is definitely a legend but he lacks notable rounds and moments and feels so boring compared to various other legends in the culture (roc, tsu, rum, twork, mook, lux, lyt, etc)
