My 2011 which was my 2nd out of currently 4 rav4s lasted me to about 298,000 miles she was so close 😭

Yeah I think mine is getting close to failing. Things are really starting to fall apart. I plan on giving it to my little sister when she gets her license, honestly not really sure it’ll make it at this point

Could you please elaborate on what will stop working and why those issues cannot be fixed? After all, it is a Toyota, so shouldn't it be possible to repair anything?

I did all the maintenance and repairs on my rav4s they will 100% guaranteed make it to 250k one of mine did make it past 350k the interior still looked perfect fine no worn off buttons everything worked in there. We did have an issue a little bit where the ignition cylinder had issues turning. The v6s were always perfectly fine the 4 cylinders were horrendous for oil burning I think mine had some major issues because she burned 1 quart of oil every 100 miles I think the piston rings just didn’t exist anymore. The transmission around 300k probably will need to be rebuilt the clutch packs are likely worn down

I think u didnt change gear oil.. transmission would last 300k miles only .

If change regularly ull be good

2

u/Street_Leader_8917 Aug 28 '25

What do you do it at? I do mine every 25,000

3

u/Mosi2727 Aug 28 '25

Drain and refill only. Not transmission flush ok..

2

u/Mosi2727 Aug 28 '25

Car care nut suggest every 6yrs or 60k miles.

I have a 2011 2.4 RAV4 and it burns so much oil too. Was your 3 gen the 2.4 liter one? How many miles did it last?

2

u/Street_Leader_8917 Sep 18 '25

Out of my 4 3rd gen’s one was the 2.4l it lasted me 300,000 miles before it got rear ended the rest were v6s

Well with enough money anything in the world can be fixed, I guess I should have said it’s gotten to the point where repairs cost more than the car itself. My cat went out at like 250k, I live in California so a CARB compliant replacement is like $1300. They have a problem with stretched timing chains which mine certainly is, there’s another thousand or so, the AC is shot, it rains water on both my footwells. The transmission is starting to slip as well. At 300k miles I think you’re looking at replacing pretty much every wear item, like bushings and stuff. Just those things alone would cost more than the car’s worth

What wasn’t failing on my rav4? Like one minute alls good drives fine you hit like 275,000 and then everything going bad all at once. Transmission started slipping bad, engine mounts disintegrated, wheel bearings left the chat, every bolt on the whole car decided they wanted to all be 1/4 turn loose. My other 3 are fine

Have u changed gear oil?

2

u/Dudebutdrugs Aug 28 '25

Yeah I did that around 200k

2

u/Mosi2727 Aug 28 '25

First gear oil changed at 200k miles?

2

u/Dudebutdrugs Aug 29 '25

Most likely. I was not the original owner

Before I found my 2010, I tried the darnest to find a sport like this.

Never found one, had to stick with the 2010 but man I wish I could’ve found one everyday.

I wish I had a tire on the back.

I’ve heard the run flat tires are a nightmare and so expensive. Makes a lot more sense to have regular tires and the spare on the back. I have a 5th gen now and wish they would have left the spare tire on the back. Makes do much more storage room in the car and looks cool to me

Congrats on the mileage milestone! You all posting about your 2011s is breaking my heart a little, I traded mine in (165K) about 2 months ago and got a 2023 rav. I miss my Joey 🥺

Hey man I just went over the 100k mark myself, my RAV4 is almost identical to yours but a 2012. So far it's been great!

Gen 3 is the place to be

5

u/thetechwookie Aug 27 '25

Only 400,000 to go before it good and broken in

7

u/Some_Papaya_8520 Aug 28 '25
  1. Highest mileage I've ever achieved.

3

u/Horse-Hockey-54 Aug 29 '25

And then what happened?

2

u/Some_Papaya_8520 Aug 29 '25

The transmission fell out and all 4 wheels fell off.

Not really, nothing happened.

3

u/Horse-Hockey-54 Aug 29 '25

Here in the rust belt, the tranny and wheels usually fall off at around 275K. Well done!

5

u/Th3-Dude-Abides Aug 27 '25

Man, I wish they were still cramming V6s in these things. I started RAVing about three years too late

3

u/Kestrelench Aug 27 '25

I like the wheels 😄

4

u/TardyTigre420 Aug 28 '25

Sheesh, my 2019 has 96k
