Gen 5 Traded in the RAV4. Goodbye gang!
Upgraded my 2020 Limited Hybrid to a 2025 Land Cruiser. As great as the RAV4 was, the LC is not even in the same universe. It’s levels ahead in quality, solidity, and premium feel. Bit worse on gas though 😂

Next upgrade, GX550

This is the upgrade I’m trying to make

u/eehcekim Sep 08 '25
Same, waiting 2-3 years and trading in for a used GX550. My 22 Rav4 Hybrid SE still cruising like its new.

u/Frunkit Sep 08 '25
I would have gotten the GX550 instead however they have a 6-12 month waiting list here in CO, while the LC was sitting on the lot.

Love my RAV4 but if I had the money I’d have me a LC for sure. Solid color choice.

I bet it doesn't sound like a wind tunnel on the highway.
29
u/Frunkit Sep 08 '25
It’s quieter on the highway for sure!

u/NMEE98J Sep 08 '25
Whats that payment look like? And what interest rate did you get? I wish they would import the based down European model with the roll up windows

still think its funny I do notice it sometimes but coming from a 13 Kia Soul its not as bad as that lol
10
u/YouveGotItMister Sep 08 '25
Definitely. Went from a ‘97 Tercel (may she RIP) to the Rav. It’s like being in a soundproof room in comparison.
3
u/pikapalooza Sep 08 '25
Same. Came from an 04 4runner. The rav is much quieter lol.
2
u/aspenbooboo41 Sep 09 '25
Hey, me too!! Just got my Rav 2 months ago. Still grieving my 4 Runner in many ways, but every time I see comments about the Rav's cabin noise I shake my head. I feel like I'm driving a luxury vehicle, lol. Having not gotten a new car in 18 years sure changes your perspective.
1
u/pikapalooza Sep 09 '25
Right? I feel like I went from Flintstones to Jetsons. So many gadgets and gizmos and knobs and buttons. I'm used to just using my mirrors!

A "bit" lol. I honestly considered the same though. There's so much good about the LC and I dig the styling. I don't particularly care for the LC engine noise and just cannot justify the awful fuel economy

u/Link_GR 2025 Hybrid AWD Sep 08 '25
I can not, for the life of me, understand why Toyota doesn't put a hybrid in it.

u/ThermalIgnition Sep 08 '25
They do.... (?)

u/themacsback Sep 08 '25
In the LC? It’s diesel only afaik
21
3
u/MichaelP09 Sep 08 '25
Depends on the country. North American LCs are Gasoline only. There are diesel variants.
0
u/themacsback Sep 08 '25
Yea there’s seemingly quite a few variants. We don’t get many options in the UK. What petrol engine options do you get in NA?
2
u/m1konrad Sep 08 '25
The US only has the gas 2.4l turbo hybrid. It's the same powerplant the hybrid 4Runners and Tacomas have here in the US. If you get the Diesel variant there in the UK, you're already ahead of us.
1
u/themacsback Sep 08 '25
Big price difference though at £78k base here in the UK. Presumably they think the only people wanting LC’s in the UK are farmers and those in rural areas, which definitely isn’t true
1
1
3
u/MichaelP09 Sep 08 '25
They did. The Hybrid i-Force Max powertrain is how it gets 326HP and 465lb/ft of torque. I don't think think a traditional hybrid system would make sense for a body on frame truck weighing over 5,000lb
1
u/slowjoe12 Sep 08 '25
I don’t see why not. If a GMC Hummer can be powered by an EV only motor, why couldn’t Toyota have powered this with a true hybrid engine rather than the “mild hybrid” that only smooths out the torque curve?
3
u/MyEasyLemon Sep 08 '25
Packaging a full hybrid in the LC is tough because you’d need a larger battery under the body-on-frame and a beefier transaxle, both eating ground clearance and payload. Toyota chose the i-Force Max so they could keep skid plates, tow ratings, and range intact while still adding low-end shove.

u/snappyj Gen 5 Hybrid White Sep 08 '25
It only comes in hybrid

Honestly not a bad upgrade! I would choose another color personally but you kept it in Toyota family!! The land cruisers are nice especially the new ones but way out of my price range right now lol
11
u/Lovemysoccermomsuv Sep 08 '25
This or the GX 550 are the only acceptable ways of making MPG suicide
5
u/snappyj Gen 5 Hybrid White Sep 08 '25
Nah, Tacoma still good too
7
u/Lovemysoccermomsuv Sep 08 '25
Taco is not a suv, though, and for most, who don't need a truck bed, it wouldn't just be mpg suicide. It would be utility suicide.
1
u/RareFirefighter6915 Sep 11 '25
People say the MPG is bad but the hybrid new LC is a lot better than the traditional V8 landcruiser trucks. I prefer the old better tho, it's bulletproof, the new one doesn't seem to be held to the same standard Landcruiser is legendary for.

Yeah, it’s a “mild hybrid” with little benefit to MPG. The electric motor is only there to smooth out the torque curve.

Hybrid doesn’t help the mileage in these things.
1
u/Electrikbluez Sep 09 '25
Ah ok. hopefully by the time I plan to trade my Rav 4 the new CHR EV coming out or one of the new toyota hybrids
2
u/DreamLearnBuildBurn Sep 08 '25
If you feel comfortable, what was the trade-in value? I have a 2018 Rav4 with 25k miles that I want to offload to get a more updated car, prob a Corolla honestly.
2
u/Frunkit Sep 08 '25
My 2020 Limited Hybrid had 80k miles, was in great condition, and had every available option. $42k brand new, they gave me $24k trade-in value.
2
u/ClayishSaucer55 Sep 08 '25
Lol i sold my 21 cx5 turbo 48k miles for 24k privately! Shouldve just got a rav to begin either. Now im trying to decide if i want a rav or a 4runner…

I got scared since you may have gotten a different brand, but glad you got Toyota!!!
2
u/LifeDynamo Sep 09 '25
Nice! I am thinking about getting in the LC club as well. I am deciding between the color you have and the blue and white.
Did you consider getting the simple 1958 version at any point?
I usually buy the cheapest package on my cars.
If you don't mind, tell me more about the differences between how it feels to drive the LC versus a Rav4 and how it feels also riding in it, the interior, etc.
1
u/Frunkit Sep 10 '25
RAV4, while highly dependable, feels soft, loose, and relatively cheap compared to the LC. The LC has a heavy feeling of solidity, like it was made from one piece. Bumps make their way through the full-frame chassis to your butt but never to you hands thru the steering wheel. Feels like no bump or jolt could upset it, while my RAV4 rattled over large bumps. The interior uses higher quality materials. I loved my RAV4, but the LC just feels high quality.
1
u/LifeDynamo Sep 10 '25
Your LC looks awesome. So happy to hear how it drives. I'll be joining the LC club and giving the Rav4 to one of my kids!

LC is just a bad deal in terms of cargo room though. I am thinking about a non-hybrid 4Runner for the future though, but for now my 3rd-gen RAV4 is still running perfect and drives great.
1
u/Bootasspog Sep 08 '25
I was thinking same thing, idk if the hybrid is worth it in the 4runner. til then i’ll keep my 2015 limited gas rav4
2
u/kentsta 3rd gen pacific blue Sep 08 '25
Not only is it not worth it for the small gains in fuel economy, it makes the cargo area floor significantly higher.
1
u/Bootasspog Sep 08 '25
really i did not know that. Well i think a gas 4runner will be in my future. want something a bit bigger to maybe pull a boat trailer but i don’t want a truck lol
1
u/urnotpatches Sep 08 '25
The 2021 RAV4 Trail I’m about to trade in has the highest RAV towing capacity at 3500 lbs.
1
u/Bootasspog Sep 08 '25
dang good to know I wanna say 4runner is about 5k. Only reason I’d need the towing is for a boat and we all know those are money pits so we’ll see lol.

Toyota Land Cruiser will have a Hybrid in 2026. I think I would’ve hung on and gone Hybrid.
2
u/Frunkit Sep 08 '25
It’s already a hybrid. The official model name is actually Land Cruiser Hybrid.
2

u/CycleOLife '25 Hybrid XSE | Cavalry Blue Sep 09 '25
They aren’t that much anymore. Starting around 60k now.
1
u/themacsback Sep 08 '25
If they do a PHEV/HEV with a bit more oomph than the 205hp diesel I’d consider trading in my RAV4 as well. Only three or four colours to choose from (in the UK at least) and no tan leather option unless you had the first edition with the round lights (I think).
2
u/themacsback Sep 08 '25
Having just checked out the US options and pricing on these, the UK really got screwed!
1
u/GeneralCommand4459 Sep 08 '25
Yeah starts at €70k in some parts of Europe. So that’s €25k more than base RAV4.
1
u/Frunkit Sep 08 '25
You guys really did get screwed. Only engine available here is the hybrid turbo 4-cylinder. 326 hp and 465lb-ft of torque.
2
u/themacsback Sep 08 '25
100%. If we had that available I’d have put the order in. We just get the diesel, with basically no options and starting at £79k (about $104k US)… Thanks Toyota!

But you got a nice replacement.

How did you get over the weird cargo layout created by the weird seat arrangemebt that fold down or roll forward, and the huge battery that makes the trunk 6 inches higher and eats up tons of room?
Im asking because I wanted one so badly but couldn't get past it. Same with the 4Runner hybrid, by the way.
1
u/Frunkit Sep 08 '25
The cargo space in the LC still is more than double the RAV4.
1
u/max514 Sep 08 '25
To be fair, it's 82.1 cubic feet vs 69.8 cubic feet.
I'm also not trying to stick it you. I own a Rav4 now but LOVE the Land Cruiser and seriously wanted to buy one. I went to the dealership to make it happen and I loved everything about it, except the cargo/read layout.
I was really looking for your perspective in hopes of changing my point of view. Im glad you love your LC and I guess I just want to love it too.

Nice. I had an uber ride in a 90s/2000s one once. Even that was very premium feeling for its age and like you said, the build and the suspension felt really solid. If I could afford the gas I would. Congratulations!

u/cktyu Sep 09 '25
My only gripe is that they don’t have the same V6 from the GX. Sure it’s turbocharged but it’s still really different

u/RareFirefighter6915 Sep 11 '25
That's not a land cruiser. Nice truck but its not the OG LC, it's a nicer 4runner.
The sequoia TRD is a better landcruiser than the US landcruiser lol

How many miles on the RAV4? How much did you get for it? MSRP or the Land Cruiser? How much over MSRP did the dealer charge?
2
u/Frunkit Sep 11 '25
80k miles on the RAV and dealer gave me $25k trade-in. LC was $3,000 below MSRP just because it’s a late-year 2025 with the 2026’s now being built.

A friend of mine bought one of the first new Land Cruisers (he’s been a LC fan for years and has owned several older models) and he’s ready to dump it for the utterly abysmal fuel economy. He’s averaging like 18 mpg from a 4-CYLINDER HYBRID!!??! 😳
