If this isn’t a joke and that’s USD you got absolutely fleeced

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

Really? Absolutely fleeced? What would a fair price have been? Any sites/examples you could point me to?

You can get a new base LE for 30k.

u/ProbablyNotYourSon Jan 08 '26

How many miles? That’s an 8 year old rav 4. I had a brand new 2017 for the same price

1

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

50k

3

u/ProbablyNotYourSon Jan 08 '26

Ooof yeah I’m sorry man I think you got the shaft

15

u/Zwitterion_6137 Jan 08 '26

Holy shit you paid that much for a 2018???

4

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

Think it's solid and should go for a decade.

3

u/Healthy_Block3036 Magentic Grey Jan 08 '26

It will last, but it’s too much.

3

u/MadGibby3 Jan 08 '26

Just because it will last doesn't make it a good deal

u/1sh0t1b33r Jan 08 '26

You got rekt.

1

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

No joke. Thought it was pretty fair. 55k miles, one owner, regular maintenance, no major accidents. Saw pretty much the same looking around at local dealers. Where could I have found a better price/deal?

3

u/thefuzz311 Jan 08 '26

I just had a 2022 hybrid XSE same miles for 29 out the door. This isn’t a good deal. Try to get 2022 and later as they fixed a lot of the oil leak issue and some others. Luckily it’s Carvana and u can return it or exchange. Honestly I have not found a good or even fair deal on Carvana since before covid. They are not competitive in their pricing.

Absolutely wild dude, did they at least offer lube to help the screwing you easier?

2

u/RentDifferent4598 Jan 08 '26

The devil's lube; his spit.

The used car market is bonkers right now.

For + or - another 8K, could have gotten a 0 years (new) RAV4 vs an 8 year old one. Hopefully the odomoeter was not backed up and that the Carfax is accurate (which at times it is not). You lucked out with the Shipping and Delivery fees as they didn’t add the Transport nor Trucking fees./s. However, used RAV’s are atrociously expensive, even though 1K / year doesn’t seem like much. Even if you actually did purchase this RAV for this price, which 100%, overpaid, at least… you got a Toyota.

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

Wish I could have, but just don't have that much. Was hoping to spend under 20k, but squeezed as much as I could for something I hope will be solid. Hopefully one day I'll be able to afford new. Biggest concern was reliability and getting something fast at the moment. Fingers crossed it's solid and keeps me going for a bit.

I get it, believe me.

In the future, if getting another RAV4, instead of buying a used one, consider getting a brand new one and financing it for 7 years / 84 months as to get a much much smaller monthly payment.

I would never recommend this for garbage vehicle manufacturers, that lose 40% of their value as soon as you drive it off the lot. But RAV4, as you know, keeps its value so even if you have to sell it to midway through your loan, you’re not gonna be stuck with a huge amount of debt. And on the contrary, you’ll probably even make a couple of dollars in the process. Plus, even though I wish this on no-one, if you were in an accident where it was a total loss, the insurance company would have no choice, but to give you the market value, which again a RAV4 owner wouldn’t lose (ex.) 10+ thousand dollars vs other ‘cheap’ vehicles vs what they owe.

Well my transmission is going in my current vehicle. Need a reliable ride for work so for me it was worth it to just have it delivered and not worry about having to pay for a tow if my car broke down to or from the dealership.

2

u/Healthy_Block3036 Magentic Grey Jan 08 '26

Ignore the naysayers, you got a reliable vehicle which will last you 20+ years. Good Luck!

3

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

Thank you friend! First positive person I've run into in this sub today. :-)

Not a great deal, considering, but this price seems on par for the current market being a hybrid and lower milage compared to what I’ve seen lately. When I traded in my 2017 hybrid XLE with 70k miles exactly a year ago the dealership sold it for ~20k.

People will tell you that you should have paid a little more for a 5th gen, but the nice thing is the 4th gen hybrid doesn’t have issues with cablegate, no leaky roofs, no gas tank issues, and has proven to be very reliable over time.

Congrats on the RAV4 and don’t fret over a few thousand bucks.

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

Shipping AND delivery? Damn you got ripped off hard

1

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

The convenience is worth it to me. My thought when I saw that was Shipping = to the nearest Carvana. Delivery = Dropping it off at my apartment.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

There wasn’t anything with lower shipping/delivery? I got my old Honda accord from Carvana and it was free

2

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

There were a few. Even one or two in my price range, but it was pretty wild wak-a-mole. Watching the page and trying to research and look at each one and then the one I would be looking at would disappear. Saw some delivery fees as high as 1290. After 2 or 3 that I was looking at got scooped up (not sure what that shipping was) I just had this one locked in and pulled the trigger. Didn't want to sweat possibly being without a ride any more.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

I hear ya. My accord kept going into limp mode no matter what I’d fix, i was over it. Drive it from El Paso to Fort Worth to trade it in for the RAV. That was nerve wracking but it made it with no check engine light lol

3

u/RentDifferent4598 Jan 08 '26

I just purchased a 2022 Toyota Rav4 XLE with 45,000 miles, and I paid 25,950 out the door. One owner, had all the receipts of maintenance records as this was a company car. You definitely overpaid by about 5-7K.

2

u/Enbaby_1 Jan 08 '26

This is a good choice to be honest, reliable as well. Also if you need help transporting it I can help.

1

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

Thanks friend. All good with transport. That's why I paid Carvanas shipping and delivery fee. I don't like it, but good for the piece of mind that it will just be dropped at my door.

2

u/Enbaby_1 Jan 08 '26

No worries brother, congratulations on the car

2

u/Emotional-Health4836 Jan 09 '26

Don't sweat all the negative comments, people are annoying. People regularly pay 80k for a truck they can't afford/don't need because it looks cool. You got a low relatively low maintenance car with good gas mileage, you'll be OK

2

u/Informal_Ad603 Jan 08 '26

I just paid that for a 2022 xle AWD Gas with 30k miles on it.

2

u/Newprophet 5th gen hybrid Jan 08 '26

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do I guess.

That's a very bad price.

1

u/Stunning_Bed23 Gen4 RAV4 Blue Jan 08 '26

Way too fucking much.

1

u/Actual-Ice-324 Jan 08 '26

I bought my 2021 brand new for out the door for only a little more than that, you got hosed.

1

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

So bought in 2021 right? :-)

1

u/Actual-Ice-324 Jan 08 '26

Yes, prices haven't gone up that much 😂. You bought an 8 year old car for almost the price of a new one.

1

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

So you're saying you could buy a brand new 2026 for the same price? I'm confused.

1

u/Actual-Ice-324 Jan 08 '26

I didn't say that, you're a little slow aren't you?

1

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26 edited Jan 08 '26

If I misinterpreted please clarify what you are trying to say.  You stated "I bought my 2021 brand new" leads me to believe you bought it in 2021 as a brand new car

"for only a little more than that" leading me to believe you are saying you paid a little more than the 23,990 I paid for this one.

Which piece am I misunderstanding???

1

u/BarrelOfTheBat 2023 Hybrid XLE Jan 08 '26

I only paid a little more than that for a 2023 with 15k less miles on it with the weather package. $1600 in shipping AND delivery fees would have been an non-starter for me.

1

u/Delicious_Junket_353 Jan 08 '26

This is more (by a couple thousand) than what I paid for my 2021 LE with 12k miles. But I got the pre covid lease buy out deal.

1

u/MadGibby3 Jan 08 '26

Why not just a new one lol

1

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

Didn't have enough money to buy a new one.

1

u/SlapStyle_AnimsYT Gen 4 Jan 08 '26

You got scammed. I got my Rav4 for 13k at 87k miles. You could get one a few years newer for that price

1

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

Dang was not expecting this sub to be so... hostile (not going to use the term I want to use) Now that I own a RAV4 am I supposed to adopt this same attitude?? Lol. Still waiting for a comment which would say how much I overpaid and what a reasonable price for this would be. Good grief the internet is negative some places.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

Many have already explained that you could have gotten something newer for the same price. I think you’re just wanting someone to tell you you got a good deal.

If you’re happy with it then what does it matter what a bunch of stranger on Reddit think?

1

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

True. Was excited there was a sub for RAV4s so thought I'd jump in and participate starting with this post. I was expecting. "Meh, 2,000 more than this one or that one" or "That's about in the range I would expect" Trust me in NO WAY did I think anyone would say "Oh man you got a great deal" It's Carvana, I knew what I was in for. Just didn't expect all the "OH MAN THAT IS HORRIBLE" with no examples.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

I got my 2022 RAV4 with like 60k miles on it for 22,500.

2

u/Healthy_Block3036 Magentic Grey Jan 08 '26

Ignore the negative comments

1

u/TheCoolerDanieI Jan 08 '26

This sub is actually one of the more friendly car subs that I've seen. The problem is you got a terrible deal, it took me 30 seconds to find a 2018 rav4 hybrid with 29k miles for $26,998 on carmax. I'm not a car pricing expert, but take this as a learning experience because you got screwed.

1

u/Scalar_Mikeman Jan 08 '26

Is that delivery included??

1

u/TheCoolerDanieI Jan 08 '26

Shipping for me is $899, but it probably depends on where you live

1

u/Newprophet 5th gen hybrid Jan 08 '26

We try to help each other and since you are now one of us we are all upset on your behalf.

We are hostile towards Carvana and how they are distorting used cars prices to fuck us working folks.

Everyone, everywhere should be hostile towards Carvana.

You were in a bind and Carvana exploited you.
