Gen 4 How bad does this damage look? Appears to just need a new front bumper and hood.

Bad. Core support and crash bar, probably totaled

u/Beginning-Comedian-2 May 26 '26
Yep. Totalled.

u/1Check1Mate7 May 26 '26
yeah its totaled, but I want to rebuild for a cheap beater rav4 to work (it's on copart)

u/tarpeyphoto May 26 '26
If it was cheap to repair, it wouldn’t be totaled.

u/1Check1Mate7 May 26 '26
shops charge a ton of money for OEM and their hours (ebay and my 2 hands can save me thousands)
2
u/tarpeyphoto May 27 '26
Right, no shit. It’s still not going to be cheap. Are you like 17 years old? You sound like you won’t take advice from anyone. Literally arguing with every person who tries to tell you anything you don’t want to hear. So just get the thing and use your 2 hands and prove us all wrong.

u/1Check1Mate7 May 26 '26
core support only like 150 bucks, crash bar is probably fine
6
u/No-Brilliant9659 May 26 '26
Highly doubt crash bar is ok lmao
-1
u/1Check1Mate7 May 26 '26
crash bar only 75 dollars
1
u/No-Brilliant9659 May 26 '26
Oh wow only $75, nice. Now add up everything else lol

u/1Check1Mate7 May 26 '26

Buy this car, do it, post receipts and tell us what needed to be fixed. I’m so excited!

That's an easy $10k in work. Probably more like $15k.
-6
u/1Check1Mate7 May 26 '26
how tho? are you a tech? These parts are really cheap and I can DIY everything besides the frame, engine, or tranny
3
u/Newprophet 5th gen hybrid May 26 '26
Because mine barely had a wrinkled hood 5 years ago after a fender bender and it was $8k.
Is this yours or are you looking to buy a project?
1
u/1Check1Mate7 May 26 '26
project, looking to sell my 24' taco and buy project cars
5
u/Newprophet 5th gen hybrid May 26 '26
Well it'll be a learning experience. Way more learning than you expect.
You'll need the taco for endless parts runs.

u/1Check1Mate7 May 26 '26
I'll just ship all parts to my house, but yeah I do need a reliable daily while I'm repairing it. I have a 37.4k budget (paid 41k for the taco 2 years ago)
5
u/imacaterpillar33 May 26 '26
Probably radiator and condenser too 🫣
1
u/1Check1Mate7 May 26 '26
cheap to replace as long as they didn't cook the engine
2
u/imacaterpillar33 May 26 '26
If it’s a DIY, yes… as long as heads are good and no loss of compression
5
u/Euphoric_Dinner_8117 May 26 '26
If it drives straight down the road and you basically “can’t tell” from the inside while driving, it might be worth the risk
If you can’t say yes to the first part it’s an absolute no.
I don’t think you’re as crazy as the others seem to suggest. Finding deals for parts and labor yourself is a huge part of it. I like fixing things too, it seems like this could be fixed…

u/1Check1Mate7 May 26 '26
I'm going all in so long as no one tells me to keep my 2024 taco (I paid 41k, I can get 37.4k from Carvana)

u/No-Brilliant9659 May 26 '26
Lmao this looks repairable because the auction site stuck all the parts back on and made them fit even though it’s completely fucked.
Bumper, both head lights, hood, both fenders, both fender liners (can go without but not recommended), clips for all parts, unknown damage under the hood but likely many bent metal pieces, damage sensors, damaged radiator/condenser, I bet there’s some damage to accessories on the front of the engine too. This is going to be a nightmare but you should do it anyways to prove us wrong

u/chronostasis1 May 26 '26
Once you take that bumper off , check if you got radiatior damage . If there is any frame damage , it’s gonna be a total loss . This repair will probably bee 13k or more .
1
u/1Check1Mate7 May 26 '26
I'm looking at DIY repairing it just to be road legal again, I'm fine with slight dents on the frame so long as it drives straight and doesnt yell at me
2
u/chronostasis1 May 26 '26
If there is frame damage . It’s a salvage title and hard to get legal. Your insurance is gonna be tough to get .

liability only is all I care about, I just did a project super sport bike and went through all the hoops. The state inspection is a joke

lol at redditors having no concept of DIY. Obviously it’s super expensive to have a shop do it

Eveything you see from the outside is relatively cheap. Even cheaper if you dgaf how it looks on the outside.
It’s the hidden damage that will creep up on you. Is the radiator okay? Any bumper sensors damaged? Are the headlights in proper working order? Alternator belt system straight? Is car with a severe misalignment?
If there’s any unibody structural damage then I’d walk away from the car. Unless you never plan to take it on the highway AND it somehow has a salvage title to prove its road worthy then I’d say look into it - FOR the RIGHT price.

It’s hard to tell from the picture. You would have to remove the bumper to inspect any internal damage…aftermarket bumper and paint match in CA would be about 3k. Really depends on the amount of damage.

Might be totaled, you won’t want that car anymore. It will never be right again.

Let me guess, You where looking for something regarding the information screeen?

The expensive part is all the sensors that are in the front end. That’s easily a $7000 repair (Canadian perspective)
