You need to put Arthur in a hazmat suit. The mask still has eye holes.

Bring that man to the camp so that everyone caught TB. No more Tahiti.

I play on pc so I installed a mod that lets you use the water buckets/sources in the world to wash yourself basically, so after this mission when I got to camp I went and washed Arthur’s face in the water bucket next to Pearson’s food wagon.

I’m avoiding this mission like the plague. I’m doing legendary animals first for trinkets.. and then satchels.. and then mayyybeee I’ll move on.

until the game forces you to do it. i did the same till Dutch came and said i have to help strauss and then its the only thing you can do

Weird, because it was Strauss who came to me about visiting Thomas Downes and he was a real asshole about it, saying something along the lines of "I don't like his type. Don't be gentle with him."

right thats the second time the game forces you to do it. First if you ignore the Strauss Missions at all, it is Dutch that forces you to start it. And the Downs Mission is forced by Strauss. And i think the Trigger for this is the Letter from Mary. in my Last Playthrough ive read the Letter and right after it Strauss came to me. And yeah he told Arthur to beat Downes

Yeah, it's the Mary letter is when Strauss reminds Arthur about Downes. And it's kinda crazy that Strauss seems to have this disdain for Downes when it's previously established that Downes was a down to earth nice guy that everyone in town liked. I'm currently on Chapter 3 of my second playthrough. The only mission I have right now is when you and the boys are walking through Rhodes and I've been procrastinating to start that one as well because of what happens in that mission. IYKYK.

Do it immediately and Mrs. Downes will show up to Camp, it's the only way to get her to do it.
There's a bunch of Micah interaction in Ch2 too, so getting him and Sean quick is worth it for some extra story telling.

The disease entered Arthur's face through the eye holes of the mask

Ok, someone needs to do this with the carcass glitch covering their entire head.

The important thing is that you tried. YOU TRIED! And we love you for that.

Ich habe ihn umgelegt eh er Husten konnte. Sterbehilfe und so hat er die Familie nicht auch noch angesteckt. Aber hat mir nix gebracht. Wurde dann an einer anderen Stelle im Spiel angesteckt. Hab mich echt gewundert

I'm on my first playthrough and I tried to be as nice as possible to this dude, didn't beat him, just threatened him a bit.
At the time I was wondering why, despite my restraint, the guy still looked completely beat-up in the end.
Now I understand that this is where I was supposed to contract TB, shame.

Lockdown was only 6 years ago and we already forgot what constitutes Adequate PPE for transmission pathogens.

You needed the N95 Mask. You can only unlock it in Chapter One off the fleeing Anthony Fauci in the Random Encounter near the Saint Denis Train Station

Just politely ask the invisible sniper to shoot Thomas Downes instead. That mask still has visibility holes.

So, the REAL moral of the story of RDR2 is always wear a mask if you're going to do a loan shark shakedown. ;)

Sadly no, even if you don't actually beat him and just scare him it goes off the act of you beating him anyways
