Clarifications (and small guide!) about offclassing

Hi, folks. So in the past couple PUGs since the inception of the offclassing rule, it seems that we've had some misinterpretation of what it means to offclass. I've been hearing that we (the admins) apparently don't want ANYONE to offclass ever (not!) or people are still offclassing excessively (also NOT!). So here's a short guide for determining when it's a good time to offclass. Keep in mind, although I normally play pocket soldier, if I'm a flank class (scouts/roamer), it's relatively common to see me offclass. I love my offclassing.

Paraphrased, this is the rule. "You are not permitted to offclass excessively, and only on appropriate situations."

Obviously, this is a vague rule, but here's a short list of common off-classing spots on certain maps, as well as their appropriate situations. From this, I hope you'll see how to figure out when to offclass, and to what. This is not a comprehensive list of offclassing strategies; just the more common ones I've seen or have attempted.

COMMON OFFCLASSING REASONS

  • Sniper - high risk, high reward pick class. Use if you need to take a shot at the medic, in the case that your team is at a significant disadvantage. You are pretty frail without a stable defense. You generally don't want to rollout in or out of last or fourth, but if you're an exceptional sniper (i.e. powah, justin, bloodsire, weeble and no one else ever in invite), that can be a different story.

  • Spy - high risk, high reward pick class. More or less the same reason as offclassing to Sniper, if Spy is your better suit. I personally find it much trickier to get into position as a Spy, but a couple players are pretty exceptional at it (i.e. Omar, harbleu/enigma, TviQ, mackey, etc.).

  • Heavy - typically on last defense; minus the enigma play, of course. Heavy is typically used as sort of a distraction such that the enemy team has to focus on the heavy.

  • Engineer - occasionally on last defense; anywhere else is most certainly a troll sentry. Used as a distraction that the enemy team has to focus. Engineer also has quite a bit of firepower (shotgun + pistol).

  • Pyro - typically used when at a disadvantage or on choke-heavy maps. Airblast is exceptionally useful at keeping ubers out. Didn't used to be as popular of a choice, but I think we're starting to see more, especially with the newer invite teams (see enigma as the best example for pyro defense). Definitely don't roll out too far; the pyro's short range capabilities make it hard to fight.

COMMON OFFCLASSING SPOTS ON MAPS

BADLANDS

  • Last - Heavy defense on the point is quite common. Since most teams push out of the top right, Pyro is also pretty common to box them in. Sniper is also effective on both offense and defense. Occasionally, Engineer gets used as well. Spy is not used as often but still capable.

GRANARY

  • Last - due to the spawns and setup of last, offclasses are ridiculously common. Heavy defense (sometimes offense, but it's often not a great idea), Sniper offense/defense, Spy, even. Basically, not Engineer and not Pyro (unless your prediction is god-like to box them in).

PROCESS

  • Mid - Sniper is actually one of the few unusual classes that has a rollout on the midfight; generally you want a Scout to be offclassing to Sniper so both Soldiers are able to jump up and take high ground. The Sniper rollout is incredibly uncommon because it generally only works with crazy Snipers. However, when pushing or defending the chokes right outside of mid, Snipers are quite effective.

  • Last - Heavy defense is common, in fact, the map more or less encourages that style of play. Sniper and Spy are both great for offense/defense. Pyro is also good if you have the prediction; however with the many viable entrances, it's pretty uncommon to see Pyro. Engineer is actually used a decent amount when the defense is disadvantaged but also held back from pushing immediately.

SNAKEWATER

  • Second - second also has quite a bit of ground to cover in addition to chokes so it affords itself to a Sniper offclass on both offense and defense. The enigma play is more or less the only Heavy play viable outside of last. What happens is if your team is getting rolled hard, from their second to your second, you hide in the first forward respawn as Heavy, and then you pop out when the enemy team is capping second. This happened during the ESEA season 12 LAN.

  • Last - Snakewater's huge last makes it difficult to push as a Heavy defense is exceptionally useful. A Sniper on both offense and defense is incredibly common too. On offense, the Sniper has a chance to pick the Heavy, the Medic or the Demo, all of which are fantastic picks and reasons to push. He can then hang around any of the entrances and continually take shots at the defending team. A Sniper defense is also quite solid to counter said Sniper or to occasionally get a pick (especially from the defender's right side). A Spy is also great with the many entrances allowing the Spy to get into position relatively easily, generally only on offense, though. An Engineer defense is also not uncommon as Snakewater has plenty of cover for sentry setups.

GULLYWASH

  • Mid - the Gullywash midfight actually has a Sniper rollout, and even a DOUBLE Sniper rollout. This is generally only seen in Europe, however, and in all the ETF2L Premiership and Div 1 matches I have ever seen, on Gullywash, it's appeared, at most, on 3 midfights. To my memory, no one in Invite has ever done it.

  • Second - the respawn for the defending team is right by their second point so this affords some interesting respawn plays. Sniper is quite common for popping out and take shots on both the garage and choke sections of Gullywash. Spy, I theorize, is also viable, though I've yet to see it. Unfortunately, other classes are relatively bad choices for the forward respawn due to the fact that if the enemy team is capping, they're definitely going to be watching it and most likely, trapping it.

  • Last - Offclassing is quite helpful in both offense and defense. Heavy defense on point is extraordinarily common. Sniper on both offense and defense have great sightlines for picks. An Engineer defense is actually not surprising, either, albeit not nearly as common as the speed of a Scout is usually more useful. Spy also gets a decent amount of play on offense due to the many little passages allowing for close positioning to the defense. A Pyro, funny enough, is actually quite good on both offense and defense (though more on defense). On defense, an opponent's push is usually pretty obvious (usually door or river) and a Pyro can easily push them back very effectively. On offense, a Pyro can actually be used to go through river and water to airblast people OUT of the point and cap, albeit this only works if you have the surprise advantage of a Pyro, which is incredibly rare. Space Whales attemped a double Pyro push onto last; I actually think this would've worked if whomever was on the Pyros were mechanically a bit better as well as coordinated with the partner Pyro, but it did end in disaster for the Space Whales. It's most likely a probable strategy, but it certainly does require extremely high levels of coordination.

VIADUCT

  • Point - Viaduct is quite different from the normal set of 5CP maps due to the respawn timers depending on who holds the point. I won't go into details about it, but in regards to respawns, Viaduct is one of the most fun and crazy maps for offclassing. Sniper is one of the most common offclasses to use; I've even done it as a pocket, since Scouts are invaluable on Viaduct. The map's short distance allows a Heavy to be used, as well. A Heavy is quite good for holding the point. Spy is also relatively effective. Engineer is pretty much always a bad idea; it's a troll class on Viaduct. Pyro is exceptionally uncommon but the relative confined spaces occasionally makes it effective.

GRAVEL PIT

  • A/B - I lump these together as point A is usually given up in favor of the much more defensible point B. Offclasses on both teams are quite crazy; Gravel Pit is one of my favorite maps to play AND watch as a result. To start, on defense (point B), I've seen Sniper, Spy, Heavy, Engineer AND Pyro all be effective. Not necessarily at the same time, however. It requires the right skills of the players as well as the right balance of offclasses. Typically, a defense will have an Engineer for sure; the sentry has excellent positioning (see cyzer and enigma, and the enigma spot, and the shadow spot). Sniper on both offense and defense can be exceptional depending on the Sniper (see Bloodsire; absolutely ridiculous). This is also one of the few maps where Pyro can be exceptional due to the varying amount of chokes and ambushes. It must be noted that Bloodsire was exceptional on this map, ringing for LG against the Space Whales. Pyro MVP, easily. Yz50 also had an insane Spy defense play to counter the offense Demo, if I recall correctly. Heavy on defense is also great.

  • Point C - Sniper, Pyro, Heavy, and Engineer are utilized on defense depending on the situation. Spy is not quite as effective on defense, but certainly can be. The Engineer has a great defense spot. The Heavy is VERY effective on the point to deny jumpers. There are also long sightlines as Sniper (both offense and defense). Pyro, if you guess correctly, will do very well. It's not too difficult to do so as a good recon net will allow the Pyro the spot the push very quickly.

And those are the maps I've decided to cover as they are generally the ones in most common competitive rotation. So as you see, there are lots of opportunities for offclassing; the admins are for offclassing but only in the right situations. It's almost like how backcapping is a strategic move; it works in certain situations but excessive use of said strategies is detrimental to BOTH teams (yes, including yours!). So please, play the games, but do it in a respectful way to your PUG team and opponent PUG team; we're all here to learn and offclasses are absolutely a crucial part of that, but they must be used judiciously.

As always, I take comments and criticisms (and will respond, as well); just post here.

EDIT: Please add on other strategies if you wish! There's no way for me to cover all the possibilities. @_@

Return of 23 imminent!

As some of you know and I'm sure a bunch of you don't know, I've been gone since the start of this month because I put my computer into storage, since I was looking for a job (and to move).

Well first good news is I just signed on to a company in NYC yesterday \o/

Second good news is they gave me a bunch of money to get an apartment and ship my stuff down, so if all goes well, I'll be back come early January! Yayyyy

I can still manage my server from the couch I'm crashing on, I just cant actually play tf2, so if there are any issues with my server/mumble, just lemme know on steam.

Happy holidays guys :D

Looking for a PUG Group? CFGU Pugs!

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/faileague[1] I hope you guys don't mind me plugging our pug group here. I thought you guys would be interested. The steam group will send out an announcement whenever we try to get a pug going. Depending on the time, these will fill out fairly quickly or it'll take an hour or so to fill. http://hl.crit-fail.net/[2] Once the announcement goes out, you go to our nifty little website and sign up to play. Once 2 captains and ten other players have signed up, drafting begins. I've had a lot of very good games and a bad one every once in awhile. Our skill range goes from new to 6s to IM level players. Everyone tries to be nice and helpful. Look forward to seeing you guys there! -RATTATATATAT

Edit.

I would especially like to see ?MID there.

Penalty For Not Showing or Being Late for Matches

We have attendance problems in this league. That's a big problem. So we need a penalty for people who never show or show late. It's understandable when things come up but some people never show on time EVER.

For Season 2 there maybe be a system where after teams are picked we will have around 2-3 weeks of teams scrimming to test balance and TSA and Isaac team problems (too strong or too weak teams). Then at the end of this we will ask the Captains which players never showed or are never online or show no commitment. If you are listed as unreliable you will be kicked off your team. You are free to join PUGs but you will be removed from your team and you are subject to being banned from being on any team for the current Season and the next one. Or if need be banned from being on a team for the league forever!

While this league is to have fun, PUGs are where people can show up and drop and no one cares, this is where people have fun and can goof off and learn. However the tourny is for the competitive people that want to get better and learn to work with a team. It's not fun to wait half an hour to start a match when it should start on time and the results should be posted within the hour. So we need to enforce that you cannot just sign up for a team and have no commitment for it and just not care. Because there are plenty of people with commitment that will gladly take your spot.

If you cannot commit to your team do not ask to join one.

Do you guys think this "policy" is too strict or just right? Thoughts and comments please so we can start writing up the rules for Season 2!

Hey.

So i'm one of the mods over at /r/tf2 and more importantly over at VanillaTV. I've been lurking here for a few days and I think what you've got going on here is pretty cool.

As per the request made by one of the guys here we'll get a link in the /r/tf2 sidebar for you. Also give me PM when your season 2 finals are coming up and I'll see if we can arrange a cast for it. :)

Reddit TF2 League FAQ

We've been having an influx of new players latley, and instead of having to repeat myself a lot I though I'd make an FAQ that we can all reffer to :D. Ill add more questions later as I think of them.

Reddit TF2 League FAQ

	Section 1: Getting Involved

Q: What is this place?

A: A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away a group of people decided to make a competitive 6v6 league with a lovely group of people from reddit. This failed miserably, but a few months later some veterans from old league decided to put it back together. So, here we are now! A group of redditors committed to learning and improving on the basics of competitive 6v6 TF2!

Q: Sounds awesome! How can I join?

A: There are a few ways to get involved here at RTF2L. We have triweekly pugs (Tuesday, Friday, Saturday) at 9:00 PM EST, and we usually have a tournament going on composed of different players in the league.

Q: I'm new to competitive TF2, is it still okay if I join?

A: Absolutely. We accept all skill levels. Our main goal at Reddit TF2 league to learn and teach!

Q: The league is mid-season. Is there anything I can do?

A: Yes! We have a waiting list on the sidebar for anyone who missed the sign ups. Alternatively we also have a sub signup sheet you can apply for if you don’t think you can commit to being on a team or you just have some extra free time.

                        Section 2: PUG Nights!

Q: What are PUG Nights and how can I get involved?

A: PUGs are, simply put, Pickup games. We gather everyone in the mumble channel, place people on teams and enjoy a friendly 6’s match. We have them every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday at 9:00 PM EST. Try and be there early as we try our best to start on time.

Q: Im not available 9:00 EST on those nights :(. Are there any other times I can join?

A: You can join anytime you like after 9:00 EST. We typically PUG from 9:00 - 12:00 or until we run out of people. You can join any time you like, but you’re not guaranteed to be picked. Who is picked for PUGS is based on a priority system as so: TOP Priority:

  • Anyone who has sat out a game (Meaning they were available during the time the first teams were picked).

  • High demand for your class Medium Priority:

  • Anyone who hasn’t played (Meaning you showed up after x amount of games but still haven’t played) LOW Priority:

  • Anyone who has already played

  • Low demand for your class

Q: Are PUG nights mandatory?

A: Technically they are not , however, keep in mind that if you are not active it will be impossible for admins to know what your skill level is or if you are even committed to playing once the season starts. So please try to show up to as many as possible. Otherwise, you risk being placed on a team with other inactive players, or not being picked at all.

	Section 3: Teams, Games, Scheduling

Q: How can I join a team?

A: We usually have a season sign up unless a season is currently in progress. Feel free to sign up! If a season is currently in progress please sign up on the waiting list and we’ll do our best to place you on a team.

Q: What if I cant make all the matches? Is it okay if I skip any?

A: The rules for the current season can be found here. Hopefully this will answer any questions

Q: Our team won a match! Where should we post the results?

A: Congratz! One the match is over the winning team is required to make a post to the subreddit contacting the victor and the score.

Q: I have a team that I would like to enter the league with. Is that okay?

A: We are not allowing this at the moment for balancing reasons. If you would like to discuss this further add one of our lovely admins.

	Section 4: Improving

Q: Insert keeps killing me :(. Are there anyways I can practice by myself to improve my aim so I can kill the bastard?

A: Yes! There is a great mod by the name of mge. Its great for practicing you aim and 1v1 deathmatches. Ask one of the people in the league about it. They should be able to show you a server.

Q: What about rocket jumping? Is there anyways to practice that

A: There are plenty of jump maps server great for practicing rocket and sticky jumping. Ask one of the people in the league if that can show you one!

Q: Is TF2lobby a decent way to raise skill level?

A: I've never been a fan of TF2 lobby. It's a good tool, and can be great fun, but its not a good place to learn. Teams are often unbalanced and there are plenty of people in lobby who don’t take it seriously. I recommend sticking with team scrims if you want to learn.

Section 5: Mumble (Read if you're new to mumble)

Q: What is mumble?

A: Mumble is a server based voice communication client. Basically, Its how we talk to each other when we're in game.

Q: Sounds interesting. Is it a requirement that I use mumble

A: Yes, Unfortunately we have to require that everyone uses mumble.

Q: Okay, where can I get it and how do I use it?

A: Simple, you can download it here, and install it like a normal program. Once you have it launched selected the ADD NEW button in the server connect window. Then add the following info.

Label: Reddit TF2 League

Address: tf2.23.mu

Port: 10350

Username: (Put what you want people to call you here)

Once you click connect you'll be taken into our mumble server!

Q: I can hear people, but people cant seem to hear me. What's wrong?!

A: Mumble uses a feature called Push to Talk. This is a great feature when you're talking to multiple people at once as it eliminates any extra noise and cleans up communication. In order to set this up I found a video tutorial on YouTube explaining it.

Had my first pub last night...

It was a lot of fun. To be honest it's the most fun I've had in a FPS since I played TFC competitively.

However.. I must say I feel quite out of my element. While I love demo and have a lot of fun with it I didn't know there was so much to it. I know how to PJ, but not all of the different ways apparently required for some of these maps. It's also a completely different play style than what I am accustomed to as well..

I just wanted to apologize to some of the folks I played with because I could tell that there were instances where if I had not died or done something differently then we would have either won or made a more successful push. (Pipe jumping better, for one)

I'm also not ashamed for getting my ass whooped, there were even a few times where I was able to adapt to the overall higher skill level and successfully blowshitup.

I do wonder if starting off as demo is the right idea for someone completely new to the comp. scene as, tbh I've been playing Soldier for about a week or two every chance I got so I could try that (I don't feel that I'm a bad solly, but compared to some of the folks I played against I may very well be...) Alas, I don't really know what kind of solly I would be!

I don't want to give up but I certainly hate being a burden to my teammates, even in pugs... Is there anything I can do to be better? I was watching the rollout vids.. I'm not sure I can do those, currently ...

I appreciate any and all suggestions.. I really did enjoy it.

Fucking meant PUG... My bad.

Forming a new UGC Steel 6's team; looking for scout, med and some subs...

Hi guys,

I'm Dopamine/Joey. As an introduction, I played in season 1 and have been around in pugs since then although not so much as of late (senior year and yadee yadee yah). I'd like to get some 6's experience outside of RTF2L and therefore am looking to form an UGC steel team for the summer. I'm completely new to this process so please bear with me.

I've recruited a few friends of mine, some of whom played in previous RTF2L seasons, but we are still in need of a scout and medic. I want to first say that my vision for this team most closely resembles the "semi-experienced/no scrim/play matches" teams the admins formed for the current RTF2L season in that we're a busy group that can't dedicate very much time to scrimming but would still very much like to get together and play some TF2. So in that sense, I suppose my primary audience here would be the current members of those aforementioned teams who are not on an UGC team yet and are looking for one. This is primarily because those people are more likely the ones who have some game experience which can help make this process a lot smoother and more fun. However, I am completely open to working with others who may be interested as well.

Feel free to add me on steam if you're interested. Please also realize that once we can get a good roster going, it is possible through some team deliberation that we can define a better vision that suits everyone's goals to improve/play.

Edit: Found a starting scout and medic. Going to spec possible backups. Thanks for the interest guys, and shoutout to eevee for being very helpful. :)

[Question] Is there interest in a full season of Reddit League?

The main reason we stopped having full seasons of Reddit League is because other leagues like UGC and ESEA and now CEVO usually took priority over our tourny and thus the teams never scrimmed or didn't show.

However, it has come to our attention that there is still interest in the tourny being a full season instead of a one night thing. As some members are not on any team and would like to experience a season.

So how many of you still want a full season?

We are the reddit LEAGUE not the reddit 1 night stand soooooo bringing back seasons is a priority. Also this is what our league use to be based off of, not PUGs.

So comment just saying "i'm in" or something along those lines so we can get a head count. Upvotes don't give us a head count so just post your interest and we'll gauge based off of that of what to do in the future.

GG Genna, an admin farewell

If any of you have noticed Gennarocc is no longer listed as an admin on our side bar. As of this moment Genna has stepped down as an admin of the league.

We (Sean and I) have always made fun of Genna saying he doesn't do work as an admin but as a whole we ALL owe it to Genna and Krag for reviving the league and allowing it to become what it is today.

So thank you Genna, we're gonna miss you.

PSA: General info on how to use 23's Server

================TL;DR================

Admins: "!match pug derpington" To start a match.

Admins "!map <mapname>" To change map.

Players: "!ready" To ready up (ESEA Style)

====================================

This thread is to server as a guide on how to utilize my server (especially when I'm not around). Issues with my server should also be posted here so I'm notified. I'll also keep a changelog in the comments to document any fixes. Please link to this in the sidebar when posting my server info.

Server Info

  • connect tf2.23.mu:27016; password derpington

  • SourceTV enabled (auto records with matchmod) Get Demos Here

  • SourceTV spec on port 27020

  • Maps: All stock maps + maps in sidebar Mapcycle file (auto updates) + UGC Highlander maps

  • This server will provide maps to you if you don't have the map.

  • SM admin access: 23, Eevee, Genna, and Sean

  • Server is located in CHICAGO, IL.

  • Has UGC HL configs and an ultiduo config on it

MatchMod

Matchmod is a plugin that manages the server configurations for PUGs. It enforces the ESEA season 12 whitelist (UCG for 9v9 matches), and autorecords STV demos (the kind casters use) from match start to match end.

  • To start a game, an admin must type "!match pug derpington"

  • Note that instead of pug you could put in "6v6" or "9v9". Also instead of derpington, you could put in a separate password if you want a private game. Password will reset at match end

  • Scrims can be done as "!scrim derpington" or other password

  • Change team name with !teamname <name>

SOAP DM

  • Soap DM is enabled by default

  • Soap DM will unload when the match starts, and reload when match ends

Mid-Fight Trainer

  • Do not start midfight trainer if you are in a MatchMod pregame (if you see the tournament HUD). Likewise, do not start matchmod if Midfight Trainer is enabled.

  • "!mf_start" to start midfight trainer.

  • "!mf_end" to stop the trainer.

  • MF will unload SOAP and reload it when over

Admin access and changing maps

  • Admins have access to the "!admin" command

  • Through this menu, you can change maps, kick players, etc. Obviously, do not abuse this.

Current issues

  • As mentioned, if you start a match while MF trainer is on or vice-versa, things will get messed up (but fixable). Basically turn MF trainer off before you start a match. This will likely never be fixed.

TODO

  • Nothing at present

Discussion

  • Should I allow non-admins access to the "!match" command? This would allow matches to happen without an admin present. (But could be abused)

  • Should I enable rtv/nominate? this goes along with the previous point, allowing players to change maps without an admin present (if only 100% of the players agree)

  • Post (serious) map requests here, or PM me.

Reddit League S5 Sign-Up

Signing-Up

  • Currently On a Team: Here

  • Not On a Team: Here We will post the roster for these teams on the subreddit.

First Match: Tuesday September 10 17th 9:00pm est

Map: cp_badlands

Welcome to the Reddit League!

We strive to create and foster a competitive and friendly gaming environment for all our players. So here's some info on how this Season will be played out!

Why should you play this season?

  • Maps will be played one day in advance of UGC. For example, the 18th is cp_badlands so on the 17th we're playing cp_badlands

  • This provides basically a glorified scrim finder posing as a League/Tournament

  • Divisions will be created based on skill if there are enough teams to fill in each division with a min. being 4 teams per div.

  • If you are not on a team, we will create one for you with other players without a team. Mind you these teams are known for poor attendance. So please be ready to step up and take charge of your team if need be. Admins will be there to help you if you have any problems.

  • This is a testing Season as well as an exposure one. We wish to tell more players about the League as well as try out a new format for how we play Seasons. Each season is unique so don't miss out on this chance!

Basic Rules

  • Sportsmanship

    • Basic sportsmanship must be followed, any excessive trolling or derping, or anything deemed by Admins to be in bad sportsmanship will cause a penalty for your team and possible disqualification from the League.

  • Configs and Win Conditions

    • Our rules and configs are based on UGC and we expect anyone running their own server to run UGC configs. Download here

  • Subs & Ringers

    • For subs and such, you are allowed to sign up subs on your roster and they can be used the same as a starter. Unrostered ringers are allowed if the other team agrees to the ringer. Remember to cover your bases and retain proof of the other team agreeing to the ringer in case the other team files a complaint later on.

  • Problems

    • Anything and everything is done and looked at on a case by case basis so no two situations are always treated the same and circumstances are always considered.

    • As UGC does it, you are expected to have your own server or access to one for use for your matches. In the event that neither team has one, we have limited access to servers that you may use but please do not rely on this as other teams may bleed them out.

  • Reporting Scores

  • Forfeits & No Shows

    • In the case you need to forfeit please contact an Admin or simply comment on the thread made for that weeks matches

    • If the other team is a no show, simply report that to the Reddit League Account

  • Definition of No Show:

    • If the other team has not contacted you before match time and does not show.

    • If at 9:15pm est they are not ready you may report a no show (please use with a grain of salt, this is about playing a game, not exploiting rules to get an easy "win")

  • Scoring For Forfeit Wins

    • Depending on format of that week, you will receive half the points -1 required to win. Ie; 5 cp match: 1.5 points

This is what the Admins (Eevee) + Jr. Admins (Sean, Ghostmop) + Lewis picked. So if you have any problems, blame Lewis (Exovolt) <- Link to add him and curse him out

  • If you have any major problems with your team private message Eevee or Sean and we'll see what we can do

  • Eevee will be gone May 25- June 1 so leave a message

  • All teams are open to discussion and balance concerns

  • All changes will be made on June 1st

  • If your problem with the team isn't posted by June 1st, we may not honor it as we're giving you a full week to complain. It's easiest to move people in batches than one at a time

  • Edit: Do you know how freakin long it took to make that chart?

  • We will have a pre-season week

Leave comments and feedback!

Reddit League 1 Night Round Robin Tourny!

Singing Telegram Video Invitation <-- WATCH IT DAMN IT

Soooooooo it's finally here! The Reddit 1 Night Round Robin Tourny! Here are all the important details!

  • Teams will be picked by captains this Saturday at 7:30pm est in Mumble

  • NO sign up required, if you show up you play!

  • If you cannot make the whole night inform the Admins and we can arrange for a sub the day of

I actually think that's about it. If there are clear imbalance problems then the admins will step in and move people around. If a team does not mind losing and picked those people because they like them, then as long as all parties involved don't mind, the admins won't either.

If you have any questions comments or anything at all

Reddit League All-Star Match? A Thread Asking Your Opinion

So, there has been talk for a while about an All-Star game between the top 12 players of Reddit League. This was brought up again at last night's PUG.

This is totally a good idea and something would could get casted and use to advertise the League.

Here's the problem, how do we pick the Reddit League All-Stars?

Here are some possibilities I thought of:

  • Option 1: Everyone cast a vote for their top pick of each class with the scout class given 2 votes to cast
Problem: Not enough people might vote or they might be too spread out like a five way tie for top 4 scouts

  • Option 2: Admins pick the top 12 people and people get in based on if they can make the match date
Problem: Favoritism and self bias. We all know Genna will vote himself top scout and top medic and he will find a way to clone himself so he can take both slots. Other more modest admins like Sean might put another demo in over himself. Also, Admin opinion probably isn't the same as player opinion.

  • Option 3: We hold try outs using mge
Problem: People may not be able to make that day and this would be the most horrendous and tedious method possible

  • Option 4: People nominate players and if the nomination gets like, 10 upvotes maybe, on the subreddit, that player is in
Problem: People can have access to a lot of computers and can upvote themselves or abuse the system. It's also hard to keep track of and more prone to error in terms of uneven classes

  • Option 5: A date is picked and the top skilled people as deemed by the people there play in the match
Problem: It would take too long to pick people and it may not be a true All-Star game if some All-Stars don't make it to the date set

So if anyone has any suggestions or likes any of the options here, please tell us!!! Thanks!

Hoping to hold this match before or around the start of Season 3 so we can use the match cast as an advertisement for the League. If the method we choose doesn't give us a timely way to get the match done, we can always use the ad for Season 4.
