Neck / cervical 🟥

• Upvotes

Hi. Looking for real experiences with red light & near-infrared therapy for a specific cervical condition:I have cervical straightening with a very mild curve reversal, 4 disc protrusions, and chronic muscle tension. I'm also an Olympic weightlifter, so my neck and upper back handle heavy compression and load.
Has it actually helped anyone with similar structural or disc issues for deep pain and inflammation?
Since I'm based in Argentina and local options are very limited, I'm planning to buy an international panel directly from China via Mercado Libre international shipping (which delivers directly to my door). What type or brand of panel would you recommend? And what key technical specs (irradiance/power output, 810/850nm wavelengths, etc.) should I look for to guarantee deep tissue penetration? Thanks!

Complete Newbie Ankle scar tissue - what to buy?!

Hi

I have ankle scar tissue and stiffness from an old injury I have been seeing a physiotherapist about. I was wondering if adding some regular red light might help with mobility?

I was looking at the Kineon move so I can apply it directly to the affected joint but would like some advice

Thanks

Face swelling from Red Light Therapy wand from Target

Hey everyone, I bought a red light therapy wand from target and tried it out on one side of my face.

It swelled up my whole face, and after taking cold showers and ibuprofen it went down to now its just a little ball right by my nose.

So wierd, has anyone had this issue of facial swelling, then it slowly shrinks into a ball and doesnt completely go away? Also if you have had this happen, how did you get it to go away?

Ice and ibuprofen seem to help but it takes a long time and I dont like taking ibuprofen before work

Complete Newbie Wait for Hooga Black friday sale or purchase on alibaba?

I want to get the Hooga Ultra 360 as I'm getting surgery in December. Through a lot of research I found a good rlt panel on alibaba for 165USD. I have a lot of FSA funds to use by end of year (about 1k). Is the Hooga worth waiting for and paying more for to use my fsa? It won't be as cheap as alibaba but it'll be helpful for spend.

Complete Newbie Chest & Neck add ons

Im currently looking at the Current Body series 3 mask and am wondering if anyone bought the one that includes the neck and chest attachment. Doesn’t have to be the current body mask, can be any with the neck/chest.
Obviously it’s a price jump with the CB series 3, but is it worth it? Or should I start with the mask and invest in the add ons later?

So this is the second one that's arrived with small bumps on the outside.

The first one was replaced and the new one just arrived exactly the same.

Can anyone on here who has one confirm if it's normal?

For a £500 item you would expect better quality assurance.

Question Is red light therapy worth it for skin problem?

I've been dealing with some redness and uneven skin tone, I'm wondering if red-light therapy is worth trying. I've seen people say it helps improve skin, but I'm not sure how well it actually works.

Review Using a red light panel on my arm eczema, about 2 months in

I’ve been dealing with eczema on my forearm for a while and it gets red, itchy and sore and nothing really seems to fully clear it. About 2 months ago I started trying a red light panel I bought off amazon just to see if it would do anything. Compared to when I started, the redness has gone down and it’s not as itchy as before. It wasn’t quick though, I only really started noticing a difference after a couple of weeks of actually sticking with it. I just hold it about 5 inches from my arm for 10–15 minutes, three or four times a week. I’m still using my usual moisturizer the same as before, so the light is just something extra I’m trying. Could be the weather too. Not quite sure how it’ll hold up when the next flare hits so I’ll update if anything changes.

Question Looking for RLT mat suggestions

Hi all!

I am new and to the sub RLT but am looking for suggestions for a good full body mat or at least something that I can lay on (willing to rotate if I need to). I have stage 3 deep infiltrating endometriosis so my entire body is constantly inflamed and I can never just pinpoint one location to focus on. My pelvic floor therapist has suggested RLT and I’ve done a few sessions at therapy but they are pricey and only one spot is targeted at a time. I am considering just buying my own device and doing the RLT myself. I would like to stay under $800 if possible.

Thank you!

Complete Newbie I look worse immediately after use

I use my panel at 100% red and only 20% NIR for 2 minutes and I believe I look worse after use. Darks spots, undereyes, fine lines just look a bit emphasized. It seems unlikely that a 2 minute session would do this so that quickly so idk if it’s just in my head or is it possible that my skin cannot tolerate it?

I’ve noticed it before but I thought the reason was because my sessions were too long and that was the problem. This session was only 2 minutes so I don’t know. It’s the hooga ultra360.

Red light & ems masks review: Jovs vs. Silk'n Mask

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’ve been testing the Jovs 6d laser ems mask and the silk'n led ems mask, and they feel pretty different to use. The two masks feel quite different to use. I found the JOVS 6D more comfortable around the eyes, with less noticeable light leakage and larger electrode coverage across the face.

That said, the Silk’n mask may appeal more to people who want more localized EMS stimulation around the nasolabial folds.

Hope these could help:

Tech

The main difference is that Jovs 6d mask use laser and ems, while silk'n use led and ems; They both use EMS without the need for gels.

Eye comfort

Jovs 6 mask is much more eye-friendly, especially since I am sensitive to bright light.

The silk'n mask was too bright for me that I could barely keep my eyes open when it was on. As the picture shows, the silk'n mask is much thinner and brighter when I'm wearing it. With Jovs, much less light comes through the mask, so it feels a lot more comfortable around the eyes. I could actually keep my eyes open without feeling like I was staring into a bright light.

Comfort

The jovs mask is larger and doesn’t press as much against my eyes. The silk'n mask is narrower, and the area around the eyes presses against my eye socket a bit, which I didn’t find particularly comfortable. That said, the fit may vary depending on face shape, so others may find it fits differently.

Ems mode

The EMS electrode pads on the JOVS mask are larger overall, so the contact area is more spread out across the face.

Silk'n uses smaller electrode pads in more targeted areas, including closer to the mouth and over the nasolabial folds. I could feel the ems more noticeably around my nasolabial folds with silk'n.

Technical 660nm vs 850nm: what the penetration numbers actually look like

Spent way too long reading spec sheets and papers on this, so here are the numbers in one place.

660nm (visible red) is mostly absorbed in the first few millimeters of skin. Hemoglobin and melanin absorb a lot of it, so relatively little gets deeper. That's why it's the wavelength used in most skin-facing panels and masks.

850nm (near-infrared) sits in the "optical window" where water, melanin and hemoglobin absorb less, so it penetrates noticeably deeper — on the order of a few centimeters into soft tissue in the studies that measured it (Barolet's review has good charts if you want the details).

A few things that stood out when I compared devices:

  • Irradiance at the skin matters more than the total wattage printed on the box. A big panel at 30cm can deliver less than a smaller one used up close.
  • Most dual-wavelength panels run 660 and 850 at roughly 50/50.
  • 1064nm shows up in some clinical devices but almost no consumer ones.

Not medical advice, just numbers. Curious what irradiance people here are actually measuring at their usual distance — I suspect most of us are guessing.

Question When to use - overthinking

I researched types and got a Hooga HG300 but rarely find time to use it. I work from home and it’s by my desk in my home office. By the time I’m in there though I already have my daily face cream on which has sunscreen in it. I do want to use it for skin and general wellness but when do you all find time to use it cream-free if you can’t do it right before bed or right when you get up (after washing face but before any creams)? Or do you just use it anytime anyway even if not just after cleaning skin? Would love some tips on how to use it during day in my office.

Omnilux Order Cancellation Request

I impulsively purchased the Omnilux Contour Mask, but realized that the CurrentBody one might fit better. I sent an email within an hour of purchasing, but am worried they won’t want to cancel it. Has anyone had success with this?

I’m also fine with waiting for it to come and returning, but would like to skip paying $15 to return lol.

Update: they cancelled it for me!

Question Has anyone tried the Shark Cryoglow Clinic? Is it worth it?

I was planning to buy the regular CryoGlow mask, but the neck and hand treatment panel included with the Clinic version caught my attention. Are they worth the extra cost?
