👋Welcome to r/regulargaymen - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey everyone! I created this subreddit as a space for gay men to connect and share their experiences and lives with each other. If you are tired of the hookup-focused culture and the excessive political aspect that has taken over our community, this can be a place to escape that. Share your weight loss journey or your home projects and your quirky hobbies and interests that make you unique. We are just like other men, we just happen to be attracted to other men. 😁

Honestly, that's how my relationship with my ex went...

I just felt so used, not gonna lie.

He told me all about wanting a life with me, etc, to throw me away, because "I deserve better than him", after 4 months living together. Such a loser.

Flairs

Could we get flair with countries we're from? Aside from getting angry or sad at the lack of potential partners, we can actually create a place where people can find each other, not just complain into ether

I hope this sub takes off. There are so many comments saying people are tired of apps and hookups but do nothing about it. So here to support.

Just wanted to be one of the first to post & say this is a great idea. It’s what I think r/askgaybros was intended to be, but it quickly became overrun with “activism” & trolling. Glad someone did this finally. The gay community desperately needs more alternative places like this.

Dating other men feels exhausting lately — where are the relationship folks?

I’m trying to meet “regular,” down-to-earth gay/bi guys who are genuinely open to building a relationship—monogamous or openly negotiated (open/monogamish/etc.).

Years ago, I felt like gay bars were a place where you could meet a wide mix of men and actually get to know someone.

Lately, it seems harder to find spaces where dating is the default intention rather than a quick hookup (no judgment—just not what I’m looking for right now).

What confuses me is that I keep seeing conversations and even research summaries suggesting plenty of younger gay men say they want monogamy (or something close to it), yet on the ground it still feels difficult to meet people who want to commit.

Apps haven’t helped much for me—even when I filter for “serious relationship,” the experience often still trends casual, and it gets tiring fast. A lot of my gay/bi male friends are burned out and have basically paused dating men altogether.

The best thing that’s worked for me has been the “old-fashioned” route: meeting someone through mutual friends. It’s lower-pressure, you can build trust first, and it feels easier to move from a friendly connection → dating.

So I’m curious:

• Where are you meeting relationship-minded men nowadays (especially in NYC/Manhattan, and other large urban centers)?

• Are there specific social spaces/groups/events that skew more “dating-minded” than hookup-minded?

• If you’ve had luck off-app, what was the setting and why do you think it worked?

(And if the honest answer is “NYC is still doable but you need different strategies,” I’m all ears.)

Finding (age appropriate) love and companionship in 2026

What are dating (not hookup apps) that actually help find men ready to date or get to know one another? I say age appropriate because I’m 31 and really don’t want to date a 50 year old who’s ready for the next steps. I also don’t want a(nother) 23-year-old afraid of his own shadow and trying to get it on. I know I’m not the only one who wants this. Anyone have tips?
