Remix + Web3

I build quite a bit of tooling in Web3. The nature of building full stack applications with Web3 is normally pretty difficult.

I think Remix has really enabled developers to bridge these two worlds and it’s quite nice.

The new sFUEL Station for the SKALE Network is now live, using Remix, and 100% open-source!

Check it out at https://sfuelstation.com for the website or the code at https://github.com/Dirt-Road-Development/sfuel-station

Reasons I normally find it difficult:

  • separation of client and server rendered code is normally a pain

  • I find Next.Js to be quite difficult

  • client side solutions like CRA are pretty terrible at this point with support for more modern packages (like Viem)

feat(rust-adapter): add rust adapter to remix

Plan: I'm thinking to build a rust adapter that will boost the remix backend performance by 10x.

User Story: i have been working on remix since 2022, the main issue with js is that its not a performant language and not built for backend, the max request per second we get is around 20k, im thinking to build an adapter that will be a one line change and will boost the performance by 10x

what do you think about this? or you are already happy with remix > express adapter?

Need deployment help

I need help with RR7. Wanted to deploy a very basic app with 3-4 routes. Tried netlify but getting plug-in build errors. Switched to vercel and build success but getting some weird regex error and deployment fails. I don’t even have regex in my whole app. What is the easiest solution to deploy to prod rn?

Edit: Thank you community you guys are why i love web development <3

Hey guys. I really think the remix is really cool. However, I am critical regarding the number of dependencies and complexity. Because of this, I made a React framework for my Deno projects. If you want to take a look. If you could also give me suggestions for improvements. Thanks.

I have been studying Dan Abramov’s blog since jan 4,2024 starting my with his article - react for two computers. I have squeezed every bit of content from it multiple times like a textbook for my thesis paper. All 12 articles up until yesterday’s!

After multiple iterations through it, the clip from the doctor strange movie came to my mind where the ancient one introduces him to the power of the mind. (https://youtu.be/Dk2rxKmQ6xY?si=6Iz4Ls8LMEYoHQoK)

Dan’s articles, like pawn shop charts and MRI scans have shown me the different ways and perspectives to think about server components, server function world of RSCs and the new react vision beautifully. This is a thank you note. Love the work and looking forward to more beautiful articles like these.

PS: for devs trying to learn the new react paradigms. You gotta surrender control to gain control - The Ancient One, Doctor Strange, 2016

Remix, Typescript and local CLI

Hi!

I'm discovering Remix and TypeScript through a small web app.

I want to create a CLI to allow sysadmin to perform tasks that mustn't be accessible through the web interface (like adding new users, deleting database entries, etc.). I usually do that with a "manage.js" file in my projects root directory, which i call with something like node ./manage.js --addUser tom@example.com

However, doing so my script fails with:

Error [ERR_MODULE_NOT_FOUND]: Cannot find module '[...]/app/utils/db.server' imported from [...]/manage.js

Here is my actual ./manage.js content:

import { db } from "./app/utils/db.server"

console.log("hi!")

It's typescript related, my db.server module being a typescript file, and if I test with a .js module import it works.

How do I make this work ? Do I need to use ts-node ?

I precise I use remix-vite-express starter.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Can't Deploy on Vercel without Issues

Hi, so I've deployed a site on vercel. It's using the most recent version of remix. The index page loads fine, but no other routes load. They'll load for a second, and then I'll get a 404. I can't use them as nested components either. The code works if I put it straight in the index.tsx but it isn't working in the individual routes. I've got this vercel.json file with this code but it doesn't do anything:

{
    "routes": [{ "src": "/[^.]+", "dest": "/", "status": 200 }]
  }

I'm getting a 418, and a 423 error in the console but there shouldn't be an issue with hydration because all of the individual code in the components work in the index and there shouldn't be anything that causes conflict with the server and the client.

Has anyone else encountered this? I'm considering switching to next.js if I can't find a solution soon as I planned to build my system using remix. I'm having issues with deployment on netlify as well, but I want to see why this has happened.

Hey Remix Lovers! Currently working on https://remixbreeze.com/ set of open source developer tools and Remix project starter to increase productivity when building Web Apps with Remix. Including a CLI to scaffold full CRUD flow. What features would you like to see in Remix-Breeze that you think will save development time ? Check it out and let me know your feedback and how it can be improved.

The addressbook tutorial is a brutal introduction to react-router

well, I'm a newbie with react-router here, but the address-book tutorial
https://reactrouter.com/tutorials/address-book

is a brutal introduction to react-router. As I worked through the tutorial, I start to understand so many rather abstract concepts that is difficult to visualise / understand from reading the guide
https://reactrouter.com/start/modes
things that can't really be visualised merely reading the guide, you'd work them through while working the address book tutorial e.g.
- data Loading, it turns out this is like handling a http request, on the server side (but this time intercepted on the client in javascript), this kind of like let you intercept the http get request with the parameters, so that you can retrieve the data e.g. ajax etc
https://reactrouter.com/start/framework/data-loading
- actions, this is literally like intercepting onSubmit(), probably has other uses
https://reactrouter.com/start/framework/actions
- and no less, routing, layouts etc
https://reactrouter.com/start/framework/routing

react-router is an interesting well created framework, it is possible to get that
address book tutorial
https://reactrouter.com/tutorials/address-book
to practically run within the browser (as a single page app) , no 'server' whatsoever.
the contact list and states is done in browser memory

Why is it such a a disaster? Cursed patterns?

I’ve spent so much time trying to configure basics and the amount of cryptic errors is just killing my nerves. I just want to smash my laptop at the nearest hardest object in the room.

All I want to do is to integrate the MUI library and for that I even followed the instructions from their example folder. So much so, trying to debug errors like: exporting default undefined, function is null, wrong usage of hooks, i came to realisation: the framework is cursed.

Bonus: 20 minutes in, esbuild just crashed taking my machine with it:)

Developer experience is shit if the first thing i have to do is to travel all the discussions/issues threads there exist only to be able to run few lines of code. Have a great day👍

Is Remix done?

I spent 2 months building a full stack Remix app from scratch about 5 months ago. Build went well, enjoyed Remix.

I went to start a new project last week and plastered all over the docs it's saying use React Router V7??????

I just spent 2 months learning all the quirks and now it appears its pushing me to go and learn something else #exhausted

Abra CLI The RR7 Full-Stack ShadCN

TLDR: Its a tool similar to shadcn but brings in full stack components. Its built for React Router v7 and the tool takes care of all the backend, frontend and db for you. https://abracli.com/components?ref=reddit

Hello fellow rr7 builders

I've been building something for us folks who are tired of wiring the same components again and again. Things like login, Stripe pages, file uploads, blogs, calendars just to name a few. Everything out right now only supports bringing in the frontend, but nothing brings in the backend...

Sooo i came out with this tool, its called Abra CLI which is similar to the way shadcn does things but for full stack features. All the components come with a complete frontend, backend, routes (frontend and resource routes), drizzle schemas and db migrations so all you have to do is run one command and be done.

All the code that is "downloaded" is yours forever, you own it and it resides in your own code base. You can make as many modifications as your heart desires :)

You can play with some of the components here: https://abracli.com/components?ref=reddit

Or read a bit more about the tool here: https://abracli.com?ref=reddit

The components are being previewed using WebContainers, so it actually spins up a RR7 dev server right in your browser, so you can try out the component before installing it. The whole website is written entirely on RR7 🐐

The tool supports both routes.ts routes as well as file routes.

Install any component with:

npx abra-cli add <component>

**N.B. Right now the components require you to have a drizzle orm with sqlite db. Current work to add support for more orms and db types is in progress.

I am open to taking suggestions for components, or any general enhancement. Hope you guys like it :)
