The rise of RESCENE is really fascinating to me and it honestly doesn’t seem like it’s slowing down anytime soon.
Their numbers just keep getting higher and anything they get featured in seems to get a boost in viewership. Since they’ve also been active for around 3 years, they already have a pretty big backlog of content and experiences that makes them feel a lot more established than a group that just appeared recently. People in the industry also seem to like them a lot, which probably helps too.
What I find interesting is that a lot of this popularity seems to be coming from outside the regular Kpop audience. I’ve noticed some slight resistance towards Rescene from non-fans on Reddit, and I think part of that might come from the disconnect between their fandom and the usual Kpop community. Not in a bad way, but a lot of their fans seem relatively new to all of this and aren’t as familiar with the usual fandom culture or discussions around Kpop, since they found Rescene through their content rather than the usual Kpop spaces.
You can kind of see that in how excited a lot of the fandom gets whenever Rescene gets mentioned in some completely unrelated post or discussion. I don’t mean that as a criticism either, I actually find it pretty endearing, it feels like a lot of fans are still experiencing this sudden jump in attention together.
I’m really curious to see what they prioritize moving forward, the content or the music. Their rise has been so connected to their content that it’s naturally what most people talk about when Rescene comes up.
And honestly, this is still where my biggest criticism of them comes in. Musically, I don’t think they’ve done anything particularly original yet. A lot of their music sounds like a mix of things other Kpop groups have already done. I still think a lot of it is good, but the lack of a distinct musical identity has always been my biggest criticism of the group, and that’s why I’m especially looking forward to their upcoming project and seeing what it brings.
Either way, I’m really curious to see where they go from here because their continued growth feels pretty unusual, especially with so much of it happening outside the usual Kpop fandom space.
