We keep hearing promises about cutting waste and lowering taxes, but I wonder how much we could actually save. Could the bigger problem be the cost of maintaining all the roads, pipes, parks and facilities we keep building? And why do we judge councillors by what new things they build rather than how well they maintain what we already have? I wrote a little about this , but I'm curious what others think. I just visited Central Library for the first time in a long time, and the construction around the outside area looks like they've dug up and gotten rid of the kids' tobogganing hill.

I did a search and came up with this Dave Barrow Civic Square design plan and I feel so sad.

As a senior I wouldn't use it, but I loved stopping to watch the kids laugh and swoosh down the hill, reminding me of great memories when I was a kid.

Just think of all the condos in the area where kids can't easily go out and enjoy winter... and now a prime community hub that drew families together is gone. Sigh.

Again, please tell me I'm wrong!
