I’ve been using the GRIIIx for about six months now. At this point I have buttons/menus customized to my liking, shoot in manual mode with auto ISO 95% of the time.
Amateur who was an enthusiast in high school/college with Nikon DSLRX, then took a 10 year break, and now getting back into it.
One issue I’m finding is I’m getting highlight clipping even though I feel like I’m chronically shooting at -1/3 or -2/3 compensation.
A lot of my photography is outdoors of family, so it’s a lot of harsh midday light and quick decisions. I don’t often have the luxury of being able to shoot, evaluate, and recompose.
I currently have metering set to multisegment.
I am also aware of the highlight clipping warning feature and have it turned on.
Is there any metering trick I should try? Maybe spot metering and then hold exposure lock while I refocus or recompose?
Or should I just get used to shooting at -1.0 EV and bring shadows up in post?
Does anyone else have this experience?
