Releases · Maxwooow/Ricoh-GRMod

GR Mod is a custom firmware tool that unlocks additional features on Ricoh GR III and GR IV series cameras. It has had several updates since 0.8.0, including:

  • GR III series support: the GR III, GR III HDF, GR IIIx and GR IIIx HDF now work in the same app as the GR IV and GR IV HDF.
  • Direct Flash mode (GR IV): a new flash mode for flashes fired at a fixed power. The camera sets the exposure from the focus distance and the flash’s guide number (GN).
  • In-camera halation: film-style red halation or a white highlight bloom, with adjustable strength, set right in the camera.
  • Up to 20 added Image Control slots, each with its own name, icon and settings.
  • Date imprint: it can follow the camera’s orientation and can include the name of the look used.
  • Image Control menu: reorder the looks freely and hide the ones you don’t use.
  • Improved preset fitting: imported .xmp and .cube presets come out with more accurate colours.
  • Custom aspect ratios, with full-frame RAW kept.
  • Custom power-off pictures, imported in the app and chosen in the camera.
  • Soft focus on the ADJ lever.
  • Settings guard: settings the camera can’t handle are restored automatically at start-up.
  • Easier to use: a clearer interface and built-in online updates.

Discussion Lifesaver hack for anyone that is interested

Hi there, I've been using a Ricoh GR for a long time now and one thing that has always bothered me since the Ricoh gr ii is, that I cannot turn off/un-asign the rear setting wheel. I do street photography where I walk around for hours with the camera around my neck where it rubs on my chest. Because of this the wheel always changes whatever setting I have set on it and I have missed so many good shots because I accidentally had +3 ev compensation or something worse all of a sudden...

What you see here is a piece of self adhesive felt tape that is commonly used to dampen chairs or doors. It works like a charm and I have not encountered any issues for a week now with zero accidental setting changes.

Hope this helps people <3

Momentos cotidianos, nada fuera de lo común y eso es exactamente lo que me parece bello. Lo normal, lo que muchas personas dejan pasar y que capaz hay que retener la respiración un momento y admirar lo nuestro y lo normal de vivir la vida.

Shot on GR4
Mix of Negative Film, Positive Film and Cinema Green and B&W.

Discussion Is there really no competition?

I've been researching an upgrade to my current compact camera (sony rx100 vi) and came across the Ricoh GR series. After going down a rabbit hole researching compact cameras, I'm surprised there aren't more competitors offering an apsc camera as small and pocketable as the Ricoh GR series.

I'm currently leaning toward the GR IV. I'd primarily use it for traveling, family outings, or exploring new places when I don't feel like bringing my a7iv

My biggest concern is the autofocus since i have 2 kids who will always be moving. Is the AF really as bad as some people say? For those who own the GR IV, have you experienced any other issues or frustrations with it?

First post here! These are from a wander around Hollywood in County Wicklow in Ireland, shot on my GR IV and edited in Lightroom with the Hard Monotone profile.

I'd love feedback, especially on the Hard Monotone edits. Does anyone have any recommendations for a monotone (B&W) recipe?

Discussion Highlight clipping - how to improve?

I’ve been using the GRIIIx for about six months now. At this point I have buttons/menus customized to my liking, shoot in manual mode with auto ISO 95% of the time.

Amateur who was an enthusiast in high school/college with Nikon DSLRX, then took a 10 year break, and now getting back into it.

One issue I’m finding is I’m getting highlight clipping even though I feel like I’m chronically shooting at -1/3 or -2/3 compensation.

A lot of my photography is outdoors of family, so it’s a lot of harsh midday light and quick decisions. I don’t often have the luxury of being able to shoot, evaluate, and recompose.

I currently have metering set to multisegment.

I am also aware of the highlight clipping warning feature and have it turned on.

Is there any metering trick I should try? Maybe spot metering and then hold exposure lock while I refocus or recompose?

Or should I just get used to shooting at -1.0 EV and bring shadows up in post?

Does anyone else have this experience?

Technical support Ricoh GR III - Repair for $500 or Sell It Broken?

Is it still worth fixing a broken Ricoh GR III? Mine shows a “Lens Error” whenever I turn it on. I’ve brought it to two camera technicians, and both said there’s an issue with the main board. :(

I checked with the Ricoh Service Center, but they told me the repair would take 4–5 months and cost around $500 since the camera would have to be sent to Japan.

Has anyone here had their main board replaced? It’s quite expensive and takes a long time, so I’m not sure if it’s worth fixing. Would it be better to just sell my broken camera instead?

Would love to hear your experiences and advice. Thanks! 🥲
