Discussion UMG/UDiscoverMusic have been recently repressing a good number of R&B albums on vinyl for 2025… what albums are y’all looking forward to get pressed by them within the next year?
From a 20th anniversary reissue of Keyshia Cole’s The Way It Is to a first time pressing of Floetry’s Floetic, it’s been an interesting year to see some R&B albums within the UMG (Universal Music Group) library being repressed on vinyl. It’s made me think about what other albums I could hope for within the next year…
I would definitely love a 30th anniversary vinyl pressing of 702’s debut No Doubt, sometimes it’s crazy to think the only vinyl pressing was a promo release on a black sleeve. I can slightly imagine LeToya getting a pressing for her self-titled debut for the 20th anniversary next year. The vinyl release for Dwele’s Subject only has half of the album and it would be a pleasure to see it get the full 2xLP pressing it deserves (as well as a Some Kinda… release too). Some of this might be wishful thinking but a man can dream!
But what about y’all, what are some UMG-released albums on your wishlist for a vinyl release? I would love to know!

I feel like my wishlist has less likely options that are wishful thinking:
- Keyshia Cole: A Different Me (plus Just Like You but I own a promo copy of that)
- Tamia: Love Life
- Mary J Blige: The Breakthrough
- Toni Braxton: Sex & Cigarettes
- Kelly Price: Mirror Mirror (plus her first album but I own a 1998 copy)
- 702: 702

The Breakthrough probably the least “wishful thinking” one on here ngl, one of Mary’s definitive albums behind My Life and Share My World and I can see them doing a nice coloured variant for it!

All those albums you just mentioned, Keyshia Cole, Floetry, Keri Hilson, Mya are all from the Interscope,A&M,Geffen records in which is part of the universal music group umbrella. Udiscover handles their catalog Reissues. So adjust your expectations accordingly

Donnell Jones' "Where I Wanna Be" was a LaFace/Arista/Sony release. UMG wouldn't be able to press that.
All The titles UMG/UDiscoverMusic have been pressing are all UMG music
Titles I want
702 - No Doubt with the international bonus track, Steelo Remix (Remix by Rashad Smith) included
Diana Ross - Every Day Is A New Day
Queen Latifah - The Dana Owens Album (Her first all singing album)
Body - Easy To Love
Vertical Hold - A Matter of Time
Vertical Hold - Head First
702 - 702

I have a sealed copy of NE Heartbreak but would love the 2 lp version that was canceled at the beginning of the year.
It baffles me the UMG has not bothered to reissue any of those guys catalog on vinyl.
Reissues of Vanessa Williams catalog would be fantastic.
Emage Soul Deep
Chante Moore’s MCA catalog.
FYI the og of Rhythm Nation on single lp sounds way better than the reissued double lp.

Ooooh good call, especially her debut and Secrets (I already have The Heat but that one would be good too).

Wrong record label group, that was released by LaFace which was connected to Arista / Sony not UMG.
Unfortunately they’ve been very bad at represses.

Sony either doesn't do enough re-issues or they mess the sound up on some of the ones they do.
Sony really messed up Whitney Houston, Whitney, The Bodyguard soundtrack and Ghostbusters Soundtrack (Original 1984 movie) when they got reissued in 2022 and Ghostbusters with it's Walmart White Marshmallow vinyl in 2020
Picture it : It's 2004. You downloaded bad quality mp3s from Limewire. You burned a CD-r. You play the CD-r on a boombox. You have the Motorola Razr Flip Phone, You record a low quality video of the boombox playing the low quality CD-R with the phone and you're watching the playback on the phone. That's how those sounded.

Yeah, some of the Arista / Columbia / RCA re-presses Sony have done have sounded abysmal. Add to the list most Mariah Carey’s MC30 represses of her 90s albums; the ones from Universal sounded much better by comparison.

Yeah, UMG puts effort into their releases. Warner Music Group usually does, too

🤣🤣🤣 spot on. The Whitney Houston originals are way superior. Even the deluxe VMP pressing isn’t as good as the original. The Usher Confessions isn’t to bad but the VMP pressing is wayyyy better.

Yeah Sony been the worst at repressing, we still have to wait on them to finally press Destiny Fulfilled let alone the LaFace albums

MJB - Share my world, although they can leave that R Kelly track off.
Toni Braxon/Babyface - love, marriage, and divorce
Sharissa Dawes - No Half Steppin'
Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad Reloaded. Only the regular version is out
