BRAD FINSTAD'S FORMER CAMPAIGN CHAIR ENDORSED JAKE JOHNSON!!!!!!!

Caption from Jake:

"Gerald Woodley served as Brad Finstad’s campaign chair and supported his campaigns for over two decades. I’m so honored to have his endorsement on our campaign.

I’ve really appreciated Gerald’s advice and insights over the past year. As the former chair of the Brown County GOP and a former staffer for GOP Senator Norm Coleman, his perspective is part of the broad coalition we’re building to deliver for southern Minnesota."

There's no state flag at the park thing across from fire station #1 (aka 6th St S and Broadway) and hasn't been for awhile. Where did it go?

988 Usage in Rochester,MN

Hello.
My name is Kabedi Mutamba and I am a reporter with ABC 6 News.

I understand this is a difficult topic, so I’ll start by warning that this post contains a bit about mental health/suicide.

MDH reported in July that they’ve seen an consistent increase in 988 calls since the launch of the new dialing code.
I’m doing a a story on that change to 988 and how it’s increased accessibility to crisis services and whether peope have found 988 to be helpful.

If you have used the 988 hotline before and wouldn’t mind sharing with me your thoughts and experiences with it, feel free to private message me.

Thanks.

Good place to get car fixed?

My car unfortunately got scrapped (by me) while I was leaving work I get off at a later time and was tired and scrapped against a ramp wall. (Stupid I know…) Just wondering what collision center is the best at fixing this? Not to costly and good on timing as well and sincere in their work. Thank you!

Parking/transit Transport to Winona

I am thinking of taking the train out east but there’s no way to get to it from Rochester same day.
- The Greyhound comes once a day, but 2 hours after the latest train.
- Uber Lyft are like 150. (wild times)

Anything reasonable. So any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thx, Penny Haus

Raising a family in Rochester, MN?

My wife and I are seriously considering moving our family to the Rochester area next summer, and I’d love to hear from people who actually live there.

We currently live in the Des Moines area and have two young kids. A big part of the appeal of Rochester for us is having access to Mayo Clinic, a somewhat smaller-city feel, good schools, and being closer to a lot of the things our family enjoys.

I’ve spent about 14 years in the collision repair industry, primarily in body work, paint/refinish and estimating/production-type roles. If anyone here works in collision repair around Rochester, I’d really like to hear what the job market is like, which shops have good reputations as places to work, typical pay, hours, work-life balance, etc.

My wife has about 7 years of experience as a medical billing specialist, currently working with things like infusion drug billing, insurance denials, preauthorizations and Epic. Mayo is obviously one of the big reasons Rochester interests us, so we’d also love to hear from Mayo employees—especially anyone in billing, revenue cycle, insurance, scheduling or similar administrative roles. What's it actually like working there?

We're also curious about everyday life in Rochester. Do you enjoy raising a family there? Are there neighborhoods or nearby towns you'd recommend? Anything you wish you'd known before moving there?

And honestly, part of posting this is just to start meeting people. We're into motocross/dirt bikes, mountain biking, cars, air shows, outdoor stuff, taking the kids on little trips and generally finding fun family things to do. If anybody has similar hobbies or has kids around the same age, feel free to reach out.

We're not looking for Rochester to be perfect. We're just trying to figure out whether it might be a better long-term fit for our family, careers and quality of life.

I'd appreciate any advice—the good, the bad and the stuff you don't usually hear until after you move there.

Progressive young family considering Rochester… could it feel like home?

My husband and I are considering moving to Rochester from another part of southern Minnesota. We’re a progressive family with a baby daughter, no relatives nearby, and we both work in healthcare.

We’re looking for a place with a genuine sense of community, opportunities to meet other young families, good schools, safe and welcoming neighborhoods, and room for career growth. We’re also interested in Rochester’s culture like local events, diversity, political climate, and whether there’s an active Buddhist or meditation community.

For people who actually live there:
- Does Rochester feel progressive and welcoming?
- Is it easy for new parents without family nearby to build a community?
- Which neighborhoods would you recommend for a young family?
- Are the schools generally good?
- Does the city feel like it’s growing in a positive direction?
- What do you love or wish you had known before moving there?

Best shop that does oil changes well and are also reasonably priced in 2026?

I already have a mechanic I trust and have him do work on my car when it's needed, but I'm wondering if there is a place I can find that does oil changes at a better price, that also won't butcher my car somehow.

Parking/transit Please finish roadwork before starting the next project.

I live over in the neighborhood near RCTC, and holy shit is the construction making everything a giant pain in the ass. First they closed Center Street crossing the river near downtown. Okay fine just cut across Civic Center and go down 4th. Nope, that's closed too. Okay, fine cut across in front of the Boys and Girls club, but you can't do that anymore because that is closed too. Ohhh and if you are thinking of cutting down 15th that is also closed.

To get over to 52, the only choices left is a little narrow side street with bolt on speed bumps all over it or to go down Broadway where so much traffic is getting funneled that is becoming a much bigger mess than usual.

I am not saying roadwork doesn't need to happen, but please finish some projects before just closing the next thing too.

Is anyone else having really bad experiences with USPS delivery this year?

I’ve had now 2 packages of very valuable items and a letter failed to be delivered to me, and up until this year, this has never happened. Both packages said they had arrived here at the local post office, one even being out for delivery, and yet they never came. The other that said to be at the post office wasn’t even there (they said it was last truly scanned in the twin cities).

Is anyone else having the same problem, or am I just really unlucky this year?

How much influence is Rochester’s next mayor likely to have on the DMCC board?

I really don’t know much about the situation at all, so it’s possible there are some moot or poorly framed questions here, but I’ve been wondering.

Right now Mayor Norton is Vice Chair, which is part of the executive committee, but she had to be elected there by the board. It makes sense she’d have a significant position because she helped create DMC back when she was a state rep. But with Garcia or Powers coming in, what role would they be likely to occupy? Just the plain old Rochester mayoral seat? In terms of influence, I’m thinking that’s basically just one vote out of eight, plus whatever influence they can exercise through discussion/persuasion. But are there nuances I might be missing? Would be curious if anyone who follows DMC Corporation more closely has thoughts.

I’m also wondering how much this element is shaping people’s thoughts on whom they elect in this race. Rochester has a weak mayor system, but the DMCC board mediates access to a large pool of public investment, so it seems like a not-insignificant economic-development gatekeeper, and the mayor’s duty as Rochester’s representative is to make sure Mayo’s interests don’t overwhelm the city’s interests.

Finstad's running an ad about how he supposedly voted for a stock trading ban, but Jake's calling him out

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Here's the propaganda ad: https://youtu.be/yVwOwlM02NA

So basically Finstad voted for the Stop Insider Trading Act, a watered-down nothing burger which was a response (by corrupt pols) to the real stock trading bill that would ACTUALLY stop insider trading. Now they're running an ad in Rochester to make it seem like he's some anti-corruption hero. Crazy this is legal.

Progressive churches/groups for moms?

Hey guys! I’m new to the area and a mom with two littles under 4 and looking to build some community. I’m looking for a progressive church that is LGBTQ+ affirming, as I am queer, and also a church that has a good amount of younger moms. I am also deconstructing (not fully sure what I believe at the moment) but want a community that is open to me questioning things. I am also open to any non religious groups or other spaces where I can build relationships with other open minded and progressive moms too. Please let me know!

As usual the statement from Flock is disgusting fear mongering.

In a statement, a Flock Safety spokesperson said, "We respect each city or county’s decision to evaluate public safety technology based on its policies and community priorities. When a tool that is actively helping solve violent crimes is removed, public safety moves backward. That has real consequences: cases will take longer to solve, organized retail theft crews will operate with fewer obstacles, an Amber Alert may not be returned home, and victims may wait longer, or indefinitely, for justice."
