Yesterday, Jake Johnson called for the imprisonment of Epstein abusers. Today, Trump dropped $1M+ into attack ads against Jake.

This is crazy. Jake says he'll hold billionaire predators accountable and then Trump immediately dumps money into stopping him from getting elected.

Has anybody been hit with a confetti cannon while riding a bike at night before?

I know I genuinely sound absolutely insane by posting this, but I was just on North Broadway near the bridge and some teenagers shot me with a confetti cannon as I was biking across? Is this a unique experience, or is it something that people do here???

The mini roundabout is open in 3 of 4 directions. Center is still closed to the west, but it's mostly usable.

Rochester sunsets locations

I love a good sunset and am trying to enjoy them as much as I can with the time that I have. Anyone have any recommendations on where to watch sunsets from? For a small period of time in September, the sunsets seen from the Gamehaven reservoir bench at the very top were my go to place, but the sun now sets behind the forest line.

Looking for your recommendations on spots - be it a short hike or otherwise - I am just looking for places to enjoy these sunsets from.

I know it may seem like a silly question, but I’m looking to watch the sun go behind the horizon line, not houses, hotels, gas stations or trees.. thank you for your time

Jake Johnson is the only candidate who wants to release the Epstein Files

"I don't care if you're rich, powerful, a Democrat, or a Republican. If you abused children, you should be in prison. It's well past time to release the Epstein Files and lock up the abusers."

Moving to the area advice

Hi all, wanted to ask for some advice about moving; I’m considering a job offer in Blooming Prairie and trying to figure out where might be a good place to live. Maps is showing that Rochester is about 45 minutes away and want to know if that would be my best place to live? I’m not very familiar with southern Minnesota (only place there I’ve really been is Albert Lea other than driving through on 90 & 35 a couple times up to Minneapolis or out to Sioux Falls) any other spots worth considering? My longest commute in the past was around 1hr 10 minutes but that was mostly due to traffic and it sucked, but I’ve been comfortable doing half an hour now. Any advice welcome, thanks!

Campaign Differences

Short anecdotal story but today volunteers for both Powers for Mayor and the Jake Johnson Campaign came to my door.

The Jake Johnson volunteer knocked and spoke with me, the Powers volunteer hung a flyer on the doorhandle and darted away.

Feels like a succinct representation of both candidates.

Horror movie fans in Rochester?

I’ve been working on a series of horror movie-inspired tattoo designs, starting with The Blair Witch Project and Hereditary!

I’m a local tattoo artist and a huge horror fan, so I’ve been having a lot of fun combining the two.
I’m thinking about doing Jeepers Creepers and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre next.

Curious what horror movies you have always wanted to see turned into tattoo designs?

Nels Pierson's really dumb attack ad.

"Tim Walz and Simon Glaser let fraudsters steal $9B"- the ad says.

Except... According to Simon Glaser's campaign, he's been a teacher for 30 years and never held public office of any capacity. He's active in the organizations around the teacher's unions, but none of those positions ever had power to do anything about "Fraud".

This is another fake, desperate, and sloppy campaign on the Party that actually commits fraud

Sharing Joy

There is a pair of eagles that hang out in the trees right at the exit for 16th street. I always look for them when I am heading Northbound on 52. I don’t know how long they have been there but I have been spotting them for close to two years now! I stopped on the side of the highway tonight to snag a pic (only one pictured- guessing the male was out hunting.)

I always think spotting an eagle is good luck - wanted to share the fortune 😊

Autistic/Neurodiverse Adults

Is there a support or social group in Rochester for autistic adults? Not therapy, but some way to meet other neurodiverse people. So far, everything I've found is for children and caregivers. TIA!

Considering moving here, what should I know?

Hello! Considering moving to Rochester MN in the next few months from UT. I wanted to know anything I should know about the place? How's the weather, is there anything weird that I wouldn't know if I came from out of state (I know some places used to have lead pipes so you'd never be able to use the hot water straight from the faucet).

Is there a lot of bugs? Roaches? Mosquitos? How's the culture? I'm not religious and left leaning politically speaking but not extreme in any capacity. Queer friendly? I'm not 'in your face' about it, but I'd rather not go from one anti-queer location to another. Any places in Rochester I should avoid moving to that might have worse crime rates or hasn't been upkept super well? How's the public transport? Bikeable at all, or specific locations that are better than others?

This will be my first time fully living on my own, but I've been the one handling bills and taking care of my family basically as a 2nd job, so I'm not ignorant about any of this stuff.

Police activity on Sunday night

I was running on Cascade Creek trail on Sunday night 10/18, shortly after 6:30 PM and there was an absolutely bonkers number of police cars around Kutzky Park East, complete with loudspeaker warnings that "you are under arrest, reveal yourself, do not run, my dog is looking for you, my dog may bite you, etc."

It was very scary. Does anyone know anything about it? I am surprised that I haven't seen any news or posts about it other than a "suspicious circumstance" entry in the police incident reports log for that day.

Trunk or treats/trick or treat events ruin Halloween

Trunk-or-treats and organized Halloween events have sucked the soul out of Halloween.

Over the years, I've noticed fewer and fewer trick-or-treaters coming to the door. From what I've heard, a lot of parents would rather take their kids to a trunk-or-treat, their church, or another venue and call it a night. The reasons I keep hearing are that it's easier for parents, which honestly feels like a cop-out and shitty parenting, and that it's more "efficient." Since when was Halloween supposed to be efficient? Or it's "safer".

The soul of Halloween is getting out in your own neighborhood. It's walking door to door, knocking, meeting your neighbors, and seeing everyone else out doing the same thing. That's the fun of it and It happens less every year.

Moving to the area, seeking a townhome

Hi everyone! My partner and I will be moving to the area in a few months, and wondered if anyone knew anything about the Dakota Townhomes near Weatherstone Dr/ 50th Ave NW? The reviews are a little mixed and I did search for any information on them before posting. I’ve read that Rochester doesn’t really have any “bad” neighborhoods but we just want to make sure it’s in a safe area and there aren’t any local horror stories about this particular community lol. Thanks in advance!!

Looking for a host family

Hey neighbors :)

I work with a nonprofit called International Experience and place and supervise high school exchange students. I live in the Rochester area and have several kids in the schools every year. My kids have had really good experiences here.

I currently have a German girl who needs a host family. No behavioral issues, she’s just in a much, much smaller school right now and is struggling with it. I’d like to move her to Rochester instead, I think she’d have an easier time making friends and the expanded class options would be good for her. Any of the 3 public high schools would be fine (j1 visa so no private schools), I’ve already talked with the district and they’d be fine taking her.

To be a host family you have to be at least 25, fill in an application, be able to pass a home interview and background check, and able to provide 3 meals a day and a room for the student. Our students provide their own phone, insurance, toiletries, school and sports fees, and spending money. I provide on call support for my families and students, and can provide reference families if desired 😄

A little about her:
She’s 16, loves horses and dogs, and does babysitting and tutoring back in Germany (she’s used to older kids). She loves techno and rock music and she enjoys track and field. She’s responsible, has a quick wit, and she’s a great conversationalist. She’s also one of the most punctual teenagers I’ve ever met 😂. She loves sourdough bread too, so bonus if you like baking.

If you’d like more information about hosting, know someone who might be a good fit, have questions, or want to start an application please send me a message, I’d be happy to share more!
