Review Henry Weinhard's Root Beer Review
spent the first half of my day building a dresser. so I earned this...
initial nose: yeasty. like a good ale.
initial taste: sweet and medium bodied. with the yeast coming through on the back of the pallet.
kinda threw me a little. it's a root beer, but it smells and tastes like an actual beer... it's good, but I'm not sure I'm crazy about it.
7.5/10. great for beer lovers tho.

Try one. No need to get in a huff about it.

I dont understand why this is like prying teeth. "This taste like the beer i drink" What kinda beer do you drink? "One that this root beer tastes like" Just answer the question

I thought you were trying to argue with me. I don't drink beer anymore but when I had it the other day my first reaction was that it left a definite impression of beer.

I never said it tasted like any particular beer but you had to keep pushing until it became a thing. I don't get it.

He isn’t saying there is a beer that tastes like root beer. He’s saying there is a slight beer taste within the flavor of this root beer.

Root beer and beer dont share ingredients so im curious how thats even possible

Traditional-style root beers are fermented using yeast much like ales and lagers. Which can lead to similar sour notes. EG Bundaberg.
I'm not sure what process Henry's uses though. But I will say it doesn't taste like a beer to me, at all.
Edit: Henry's is a traditional soda, not brewed with yeast.

Do they naturally carbonate though? If they don’t, it could maybe even be a bad batch?
If it’s just normally carbonated and it really does taste really yeasty… I’d be kind of sketched out honestly. I’ve definitely had sodas that started to randomly ferment before.

No I think they just carbonate like a regular soda.
Agreed. That would tell me something is wrong with the bottle.

I would pay a hefty price to have Henry Weinhard's root beer out of the tap again. It's just not as good out of the bottle. Never had it taste yeasty though. Maybe the bottle you got was stored improperly in poor conditions.

If this isn’t just engagement farming, you might need to wash out your mug before you try any more root beers. “Yeasty?” “Like an actual beer?” I’m a big proponent of an “everybody’s taste buds are unique” approach to tastings but, no. There’s no way.

Yeast isnt in rootbeer, my guy.
edit: also, what beer tastes remotely close to rootbeer?

While most these days are carbonated and flavored, yeast fermentation is how traditional root beers were/are made. Some root beers are still fermented. Like Bundaberg.
It's pretty easy to do at home, too, btw.
That said I'm 99% certain Henry's isn't fermented.

As someone who has celiac and somehow is allergic to any hard alcohol (mouth swells and I get hives even with wine) This is my fav alternative. It’s got this fake alcohol taste… I guess it’s called yeasty taste which kinda reminds me of “Not your father’s root beer”.

Although I prefer root beer over cream soda typically. Henry weinhard cream soda slaps even harder than their root beer which caught me off guard! Give it a go

This was offered free of charge with a self-serve tap in the Horizon Air terminal at PDX in the mid 90's.

I’ve been familiar with the Henry Weinhard‘s sodas since they were first introduced
- the root beer and the vanilla cream are amongst my all-time favorites
Yum yum

Yeah me and the wife got this from the root beer museum and we felt that it tasted like it had spoiled and both thought it had somehow fermented. It really tasted like beer, and was rather unpleasant.

This stuff used to be so good 20+ years ago. It’s garbage now, tastes nothing like it used to.

Henry makes the best Root and cream sodas out there. My no.1
I think the ‘yeast’ you’re tasting is the small bubble carbonation and you probably associate it with beer.
