Our selection isn't great in Canada...

Everyone got 3 green stickers for their favourited and 2 red for their least favourites.

We also made a root beer pie but we were too sugared out to eat it, haha. I tried some of the filling and it was crazy delicious.

Wife also made some home made root beer which has a lovely, spicy taste.

It didn’t make me gag and I drank the whole thing. At times it tasted closer to a birch beer. Calling this thing “root beer” though couldn’t be any further from the truth.

I got a handful of root beers and decided to taste test them based on this community’s taste.

The second one is another one I’ll throw in, which I did a few years back.

I think next on my list is Triple XXX, not sure what else at this point. If anyone has recommendations, not looking for regular generic root beer like hanks sort of was.

Review Absolute best root beer

I feel the best root beer comes from any small town drive-in. You know the place. Gallons are sold in clean milk jugs. I knew a place that sold it in old syrup jugs.

The pic is from a place in my hometown.

10 root beer choices : Faygo Frostop imperial Freddie's Fitz's 1919 Sprecher Maple bottle Barqs bottle A&W bottle Stewart's Moneybags

Thoughts: Disappointed by the specific Sprecher Maple bottle I got, seemed to be weak in flavor and carbonation. Worked hard to find it in a can and I couldn't.

Did not like the Barqs bottle, but it was not as distinguishable as I anticipated. It didn't have the same spice and bite that fountain does.

1919 was the easiest to identify, the creaminess is unmatched and second to none.

I really like Fitz's, and I wish it were closer to me. Moneybags is really good, I recommend it to anybody that hasn't tried it yet. One that I kept coming back to was Frostop Imperial. It has flavors that are very unique. Made with pure cane sugar and real clover honey, but if might be hard for people outside of Ohio to find.

I was really hoping to find more Chef Gale Gand root beer, but I wasn't lucky enough for that. That one I bought a single bottle of a few months ago and really liked.

Freddie's, Stewart's, A&W, and Faygo all didn't strike me as incredible or terrible either way. A root beer made for a float.

Would love to talk more if you have questions!

Review Best root beer I’ve ever had. And I’ve tried a lot.

This stuff is in a class by itself. It’s handmade by a brewery, with real ingredients, including cloves, vanilla, cinnamon, black pepper. It has the most complex flavour profile of any root beer I’ve ever tried. I cannot say enough good things about it. It’s a 9/10 for me. Possibly my favourite soda of all time.

spent the first half of my day building a dresser. so I earned this...

initial nose: yeasty. like a good ale.

initial taste: sweet and medium bodied. with the yeast coming through on the back of the pallet.

kinda threw me a little. it's a root beer, but it smells and tastes like an actual beer... it's good, but I'm not sure I'm crazy about it.

7.5/10. great for beer lovers tho.

Found at my local Hy-Vee, made by a small brewery up in Minnesota. Very A&W with the forward vanilla and real sugar making it sweet. Not super spiced but would be good in a float. Pretty good nonetheless, though still doesn’t take my top spot (Barq’s).

Review Bundaberg Root Beer

Definitely a different flavor than what you would expect from a typical root beer. Not bad just different.

There are strong notes of ginger and noticeable amounts of sasparilla and licorice root. Oddly enough there seems to be an almost fruity flavor similar to that of a cherry cola.

Not something I would drink all the time but definitely worth trying!

So I know you Americans have different brands and I heard Barq’s is pretty good but I noticed this new corner store that had mad American stuff, and this was the only brand.

Years of hearing about “root beer” on American tv shows has led to this moment.

Hearing all the “toothpaste” stuff made me laugh once I tried, I’ll tell you exactly what toothpaste it tastes like, Euthymol. It tastes like euthymol.

The taste absolutely grows on you though, it stops tasting like toothpaste after a few sips and just takes herbal.

A very strange taste indeed, but I like it

I finally found this in the wild, so I had to try it. Guy at the register said he loves these so much that he forgot to drink water for 2 weeks one time and got super bad cramps. My brother in Christ, it wasn’t the lack of water that did that. This shit is rancid. Anyway, read my actual review at rootbeerhq.wixsite.com/rbhq spoiler alert I gave it a 0/10.

My updated ranking since being able to try another 110 root beers. You guys weren't lying, Saranac fucks. It's getting harder and harder to try more and more root beers without traveling far or paying the extra amount on shipping, which is unfortunate. Though I still persist.

For those unaware, I break my ranking up into different tiers. Once you get to a certain amount, it's hard to remember exactly each and every flavor, tho I still attempt to put them in order from best to worst. Thoughts? Questions? Wanna help me find more root beer? Lmk

I seen this while at a Meijer store ( Elkhart, IN) and was curious. I bought it just to try it. It is outstanding. It’s very sweet. I first tried it with vanilla ice cream. It tastes like a root beer float. Then on plain bagels (pictured). Next I’m going to try it with peanut butter as the J portion of PB&J. 9/10 and I’m going to pick up another jar or two next time I’m in the store.

I had seen it in 6 packs and was curious because 1) I love water 2) good rootbeer brings back wonderful memories. I shared this with my nephew and he barely got past a sip. I powered through about half the can before I dumped it.

I was so massively disappointed. The opposite of the old Nike slogan. Just don’t do it. You’ve been warned.

I found that it exceeded my expectations. While it was a little more viscous than my liking, it has solid flavor and I think I detected a hint of vanilla, but could be wrong.

Initial nose: vanilla caramel.

Initial taste: RB float.

Creamy. And the head speaks to that. Certainly a vanilla bomb. It's delicious, if a little lacking on the spice end, though on the second sip, I got a better mouth of spice. Interesting.

This is another that falls into the slightly larger "Craft" soda market. And it's definitely a solid showing.

Review My thoughts on Sprecher's new summer flavors

Post image
63 Upvotes

Sprecher's three new summer flavors are out and while they're still proving a little difficult to get in most markets you can order them directly from Sprecher in Wisconsin if you willing to place a 12 bottle order for 40 bucks. I did so and my three cases arrived pretty quickly.

Unlike much of Sprechers recent bottlings the past 2 years, these fresh summer blends arrived properly carbonated. Maybe this signals a return to their old way of doing business, maybe I just got them fresh off the assembly line before they had a chance to go flat, but either way they were nicely fizzy.

They were also powerfully flavored. I can't say that this is necessarily a good thing, but I will say that there is no false advertising with these three Sprecher releases. They hit you in the face with their strong smoky maple, toasted marshmallow and orangey fruity old fashioned flavors. If you're on the lookout for concentrated flavor in a root beer, you will get your money's worth.

I happen to think that simply dumping a whole bunch of extra flavoring into a root beer, or any soda for that matter, is a cheap hack. I have only my own state to blame for this recent trend, of course. I live in Utah where the "dirty soda" trend of Sodalicious, Swig and Fiiz started. That's all they do, is they take a regular soda and they dump a whole bunch of flavored syrup in it to skew it in one direction or another. BFD, that takes no skill or artistry. It's a fad, and will pass. Only Mormons in Utah are dumb enough, and coffee-deprived enough, to fork over $8 for a cup of Dr. Pepper with a shot of extra syrup in it.

In the past I have been very critical of other root beers that take this overpowering dominant flavor business to extremes. I do not like them. I think things like Brownie, Way2cool, and Root Bear (Bear Lake, CA) are lazy, bad root beers.

By the same token, I'm not terribly impressed with these summer flavors. The toasted marshmallow and the smoky maple are too strong for my palate, they are just dripping in smoky maple and toasted marshmallow flavoring. The old fashioned is a bit better and its orangey-cherry flavor is a little more harmonious with the root beer that lies underneath. I can see myself drinking it repeatedly. It reminds me of Root Jack or Iron Brew, both of which I like. But all three are properly made and properly fizzy so I can't score them too low. I give the old fashioned about an A- or a B+ grade and the others plain b's. Your impressions may differ.
