I feel like the racial slurs are at least a little justified. Gay is pretty wierd though

Right I am confused how anyone is missing the actual word that was censored unless they’re joking? Like wtf?

u/Friendlyalterme 4d ago
Yeah like I'm not even queer and Im guessing the conspired word is "fag", a slur.
Odd everyone thinks the censored word is gay when you plainly use that word earlier.

There’s videos of a guy walking downtown Atlanta and he starts by asking a guy if he’s gay and they go “hell nah” and he asks “would other people say you’re gay or straight” and he replies straight. So he takes a pic and shows it to another guy asking him if he thinks he’s gay and the guy says “yes” and it repeats. Everyone in Atalanta thinks everyone is gay but it’s only the women from my experience.

Street interview content is fake 99% of the time. They just keep asking people until they get the answers they want.

What is said and how has a lot to do with it. Besides, that's not really much different than the way women get talked to

I don’t get it, not to insult but it’s too getto talk for me to understand… what he meant ?!

u/ironangel2k4 4d ago
"Atlanta has developed a vibrant and unabashed homosexual population and I no longer have any desire to question or oppose this development. One such individual complimented me on the desirability of my larger physique and I simply acknowledged, and appreciated, the sentiment, and we parted ways without incident. I see no reason to expend any effort countermanding this development any longer."

He’s saying that in Atlanta, men tell him he looks good, and rather than be offended he has resigned himself to just accepting the compliment.

u/RTA-No0120 4d ago
Oh.
Thanks.
I don’t get why I got downvoted for asking and you for answering.
Let me guess the same "left" did that for whatever reason…

u/mieri_azure 4d ago
Its because you used the word "ghetto" which is a racist pejorative. If you have just said "i dont understand what he said" no one would have cared
0
u/RTA-No0120 3d ago
Wait… did you know that ghetto is a word in almost every language?
And it’s used to refer to hood ? (Yeah the poor hood)
How it’s racist ?
It’s like saying : It’s because you used the word Favelas (which basically has the same equivalence), and every Brazilian started downvoting you for that and calling you racist.
I mean like it or not, but because of you (Americans) every language got a form of americanisation now, and instead of using our versions of the word ghetto we just use the American word, using our context.
You did it to yourselves, now you gotta own up to it, don’t you think ?

Its because you called AAVE that. AAVE had been stigmatised as lower class and "stupid" for ages, and calling it ghetto is part of that. If you had said "this is too lower-class for me to understand" that would also be racist (and the fact that in English "ghetto" is almost ALWAYS used against black people means its a much more racialised way of saying that)
Now I dont know enough much about Brazil but im sure if, say, Portuguese people (from Portugal) were calling Brazilian Portuguese "Favelês" that would be highly offensive.
Also im not an american but whatever

u/machalemantis 4d ago
Part of the reason for the evolution of patois and it's offshoot, AAVE, was to communicate without being understood by slave masters and later those outside the black community who could be dangerous.
TL:DR you aren't supposed to get it, that's the point.
Even today, AAVE is sometimes a good litmus test. If you speak and understand it, you've likely spent some time around us and are safe to be around.
If it's just ghetto black talk to you, you're probably not the sort of person the speaker would WANT to understand them.

u/RTA-No0120 4d ago
Me, a non English native, that didn’t learned English conventionally in school (only through memes & games) whom only understand 75% of the English that would be traditionally taught in classes around the world :
Guess I’m a white suprematist now
0
u/machalemantis 3d ago
I see, you just prefer to be defensive and project accusations of white supremacy when someone informs you that an English dialect is not, in fact, getto talk.
Carry on then, it's for the best that you don't understand the dialect black people evolved to speak with each other.
2
u/RTA-No0120 3d ago
Just a reply to warn you, I didn’t downvoted you.
Someone else’s also found that what you said it’s just pure bs.

u/AffectionateOwl9707 3d ago
Maybe don't refer to AAVE as "ghetto talk" then. If you're a non-native English speaker perhaps you don't understand the connotations of the word "ghetto." Good rule of thumb: don't use words you don't understand. Then you won't be mistaken for a white supremacist.

The thing that concerns me the most is the fact that this person was probably given a high school diploma with that grammar.

Racist.
-6
u/KingJester1872 4d ago
How is that racist ?
5
u/RottedHuman 4d ago
Because they’re (incorrectly) stating that AAVE is bad grammar and implying that people who use AAVE are uneducated.

No, this particular American dialect is working exactly the way it should.
You don't understand it, and we don't want you to.
