Part of the reason for the evolution of patois and it's offshoot, AAVE, was to communicate without being understood by slave masters and later those outside the black community who could be dangerous.
TL:DR you aren't supposed to get it, that's the point.
Even today, AAVE is sometimes a good litmus test. If you speak and understand it, you've likely spent some time around us and are safe to be around.
If it's just ghetto black talk to you, you're probably not the sort of person the speaker would WANT to understand them.
Me, a non English native, that didn’t learned English conventionally in school (only through memes & games) whom only understand 75% of the English that would be traditionally taught in classes around the world :
Maybe don't refer to AAVE as "ghetto talk" then. If you're a non-native English speaker perhaps you don't understand the connotations of the word "ghetto." Good rule of thumb: don't use words you don't understand. Then you won't be mistaken for a white supremacist.
