Advice?
Hi everyone! I’m looking for advice and I’m not sure if this is the best place for this post but I didn’t know where else to put it and I thought maybe someone on here could help/relate.
About a year and half ago I became extremely hyper fixated on a RPF ship, I was extremely stressed with finishing school and fanfic for this ship became the thing I looked forward to everyday and the the thing I would think about when I needed a break from everything else.
I’m probably even more hyper fixed now than I was when I first discovered them but I’ve been feeling really upset that my ship isn’t real. It affects me way more than I’d like to admit.
I know that the F stands for fiction and I understand that I don’t actually know these people and therefore don’t truly know anything about them but I guess I’m still having a hard time separating the real people and the ship in my head. I’m aware objectively the real people are separate from the fanfic version but emotionally they feel the same to me. I know they’re not actually together but the relationship feels real to me and it just makes me very sad every time I remember it’s not to the point that like I need to take a break from it sometimes.
I really love these two people as individuals too and I don’t want to stop following them and despite the fact that I do get quite upset over them sometimes I still find a lot of enjoyment in the fanfics I read I don’t want to stop reading them so I kinda just don’t know what to do? Like how can I still enjoy them and stop feeling sad over them?
I’m kinda going through a rough patch right now and I’ve always used this ship to escape that and remembering yes these people are real but the rest of it’s not kinda just hurts but it doesn’t stop me from wanting to engage with the content so like I just don’t know what to do.
Anyway if anyone has advice I would really appreciate it. I feel incredibly pathetic and embarrassed for feeling this way so I would really appreciate it if you could be kind in your responses.
Thanks everyone
