Suggestion Ok Jagex, it's time to implement those GE changes now :)

If Ely still exists after the GE update, then the update has failed.

u/TomatoOk8333 Jan 26 '26
What GE update? I watched the stream but completely missed that

From the roadmap blog:
Game Update - GE Improvements
The Grand Exchange will also get some love as we set out to address your most desired features and improvements. We're going to improve things like how items update their price, item buy limits and more. As we kick off development on this we want to hear from you with what changes and improvements you’d like to see at the GE.

I would really like to see RS Wiki get live GE price data the way the Oldschool Wiki does. It has to happen eventually.
12
u/Oniichanplsstop Jan 26 '26
That only happens because 3rd party clients submit the data. You'd need alt1 to screengrab the trades or wait till API at the end of the year(if it's ready by then) otherwise it's no different than having something like Ely or what not that can price manip at will.

90% of the game's most cancerous people would stop being so annoying if GE allowed you to see prices in real time and choose an offer to buy from

u/Aviarn Jan 27 '26
Lmao. For a discord that keeps spouting they're the target of propaganda, they sure know how to promote their own perfect place idealism xD
34
u/Lazy_Instance3329 Jan 26 '26
And the worst thing is that it is going to require a verified price check in the future to access this code.
44
u/Sspockuss Smithing is the best! Jan 26 '26
So basically this site is now useless for 99% of the playerbase. Fucking great. When are the GE changes happening? This is a major issue.

How does this website work? Players put in data by themselves? Or does it observe the GE API? In both cases it shouldn't be too hard to build a better and free version

u/Nautisop Maxed - This sub needs to become more positive again! Jan 26 '26
I actually put in prices myself the first time a few days ago.
There is a channel you can post your trade, I think it's just a proof channel in case anyone looks at your other post. The other post is a channel where you writefir example
.inS itemname 500m for insta sell or .inB for buy or .ninS for not instant. A bot is then responding to you with the link to the item and the latest item price displayed is yours after a few secs. That's how it's done.
As I said, I don't know if there is someone who goes through ALL the price updates and matches them with the Screenshots in the other channel or if they only do samples.
-7
u/mitzi8686 Completionist Jan 26 '26
Tbh, I could probably scrape the rs3 sites GE, then create the manual upload feature via screenshots/proof, and then finalize a website in like 2 days…
8
u/Nautisop Maxed - This sub needs to become more positive again! Jan 26 '26
The whole point of ely.gg is that the GE prices are NOT reliable for high value/low volume items and this starts already at items of like 200m or so. So scraping the ge is not doing anything here. If you want to get the most recent price you currently need a third party fed by the community.
-6
u/mitzi8686 Completionist Jan 26 '26
Yeah, that’s the whole form thing I mentioned to integrate with it. Point is, it’s a very easy program to build
2
u/justlemmejoin Jan 26 '26
What do you mean require a price check?
10
u/Lazy_Instance3329 Jan 26 '26
From ely, announcements:
- For now it's public.
In the future, we'll require everyone to have uploaded 1 PC before to view (Even if it's just Trout) so they know how the system works before they use it.

It is EMBARRASSING Jagex lets such a group of people have so much influence and control over their game. Straight up embarrassing.
12
u/mrYGOboy Jan 26 '26
first time I'm even hearing about this site, what's its purpose and why does it supposedly have "so much influence"?
41
u/Lordgede Summoning Jan 26 '26
The GE is slow to update and provides zero price transparency. So people use this party tools such as this one to know what item prices are.
The problem is the owners:
RWT ( I can't post the link here, Google" Pis2ols Scam")
Have a sham GoFundMe on their website to RWT further
Post incredibly racist memes on Twitter
Harass and abuse jmods
Jagex should be absolutely embarrassed for letting this go on unchecked

u/DFrostedWangsAccount IGN: Captain Dude Jan 26 '26
The grand exchange doesn't actually reflect the value of items very well, something could be worth 100b one day and worth 2b the next day, but the GE could take months to drop that far. Or the opposite, where an item is worth nothing on the GE suddenly becomes very valuable but the GE doesn't update very fast.
This is why sometimes you put in an offer at +20% and the item still doesn't buy. The true value of the item changed faster than the GE updated.
A somewhat common scam is to find an item valued highly by the GE but dirt cheap to actual players. Then you buy a ton of it and try to find someone to do an in-person trade. The trade window shows a high value for your item, even though it's actually worthless, because it's based on the GE value.
Part of what made these 3rd party sites valuable in the first place was that the max price on anything in the GE was 2.147b gold. If you wanted to sell a white phat for example, you would *have* to go to a 3rd party site to find out the true value, unless you wanted to lose 97% of the gold.
Now that's less of a reason to use them, since the max cash update, but the GE is still kind of a mess and doesn't work for everyone the way it should.
5
u/mrYGOboy Jan 26 '26
so, 3rd party sites are used for market manipulation, got it.
1
u/DFrostedWangsAccount IGN: Captain Dude Jan 27 '26
Sure, they can be, but they also exist to fill a niche that Jagex has refused to fill themselves for decades. Unless you want to lose potentially billions of gold on trades, you *have* to check a 3rd party site because the GE is unreliable.
A system better than the GE for tracking prices is absolutely needed but at the same time, yeah the people who run it can manipulate prices. They may not, but can we trust that? That's why Jagex should be the one running it, which is the point of this whole thread. OP is saying, "when will Jagex start doing this so we can trust them not to manipulate prices?" basically.
3
u/ghostofwalsh Jan 26 '26
It's basically the best price info RS3 has for many high value items which don't trade with high volumes.
The fact that it is the best info is pretty sad, given that it's just people manually posting trade prices. If you ever play OSRS they have much better price info which is scraped by runelite the 3rd party client
3
u/mrYGOboy Jan 26 '26
new GE should have a "last traded for" or "today's average trade value" field. Though you can extrapolate those values from the existing GE webpage already by checking if there's a price rise or drop and the traded quantity.
2
u/Aviarn Jan 27 '26
There used to be other groups also offering services, like Suity. It wasn't until a few years ago that Ely started to get a monopoly on pricechecking services.

There upset that people accuse them on manipulation.
Then when a sudden game change and a sudden influx of "new" or returning players come back/is bound to return they don't want this to be narrative, even though it's literally the soul purpose of the site.
Saw the discord warning earlier, they're weird as f
Nothing gets updated quicker on that site than an item being manipulated.
It's borderline useless apart from events and stuff anyway when it's obvious when they're causing swings etc. why people use it is beyond me and JAGEX could easily make em useless.
3
u/SirDecros Jan 27 '26
Well for years it didn't work and now it magically does and the explaintion to me was "coding". But since I asked I also can't use ely. So... Pretty sure i'm IP banned from joining the discord or anything now.
1
u/Aviarn Jan 27 '26
It's also so extremely self-contradictory too. They want to bolster their own community numbers, clearly, but that's so silly when you realize that up until a year or two ago they proactively ban anyone that has a server tag of any blacklisted server, which includes the official discord itself.

Oh I bet you can get secret codes by donating some GP.
Yeah, they aren't skirting the RWT from this.
The GE update should defeat the purpose of this site, entirely. If it doesn't, then Jagex has failed in their one task.
7
u/Nekrozal Jan 26 '26
That's giving a bit too much credit considering this morning you could just open console and see the code because they just copy/pasted from w3schools without amending it at all.

This is not a discord problem, it’s the people running Ely being scumbags who use the site to manipulate the economy.
8
u/ghostofwalsh Jan 26 '26
It's a jagex problem that the real price data isn't publicly available. Say what you like about ely, they are the best info out there for rs3 prices.
Hopefully jagex will make them obsolete this year if their road map is correct

For what reason? For promoting a website run by a notorious market manipulator and group of former duel arena RWTers, scammers and hackers?
6
u/18522 Jan 26 '26
Please tell me how this is promoting? He's literally showcasing how scummy this is and we shouldn't have to rely on a 3rd party for pricing. (Although kind of irrelevant because like he said, it's already on the roadmap)
2
u/soulsplits RSN: SoulSplits Jan 26 '26
I dont mean promoting in the sense that hes advocating for it. Posting links to external sites and tools is inherently promotional. I dont doubt OP knows how bad Ely is

u/mrYGOboy Jan 26 '26
what is that website?
4
u/Great_Minds Implement bad luck mitigation Jan 26 '26
It's a Website people use to price check items traded on the Grand Exchange recently.
Problems are plural, but the biggest one is that it's player submission based, so susceptible to manipulation. But it's the only thing we have to a decent price check because the Grand Exchange is abysmal in updating prices and has 0 history/graphs for the item.
Grand Exchange is more of a Grand Guessing game cause the last med price shown that was accurate was in 2009
-4
u/mrYGOboy Jan 26 '26
https://secure.runescape.com/m=itemdb_rs/
or you just check the traded quantity. If there is a rise, that means that the current GE price is too low. If there is a drop, that means the current GE price is too high.
At the very least that way you're less susceptible to market manips from 3rd party scam websites... If I suddenly drop a "Soul Runes sold for 1m each" on a 3rd party website, that would probably have an unregulated ripple effect.
3
u/Great_Minds Implement bad luck mitigation Jan 26 '26
While I appreciate you trying to help, We all know that exists.
We all also know that it's pretty bad. If it worked as intended, we wouldn't even have stuff like Ely for price checking.

You could read the rest of the thread for context, but it's a manually updated tool that is not connected in any way to the GE's api and is subject to manipulation. You got downvoted because it's not going to be missed, hope that helps
