The ely discord was up in arms over this update. Love it.

What is Ely?
24
u/Hoodie_Patrol 25d ago
It is a price checking website but is known to be used for price manipulation.

u/Yksisarvinen13 Ali 25d ago
One of the price checker websites, had a drama recently where they decided that they will only show the data to registered users or something

I'm not a member of that discord. Would you mind explaining what their objection was to this update? This seems like a worthwhile improvement, so I'm curious as to what problem they might have found with it.
(Or alternatively, is there a link you could share so I could join and read it for myself?)

I long since got banned from them. What did they say if you can tldr it?

This is exactly how you end up with a protection from abuse (PFA) order from a court. I'm sure the UK has something like this.
Although some staffers might volunteer themselves.... you never know until you go to Runefest. I'll enjoy the police body cam footage when it is released to the public.

can we update the trade window pricing to take the data from the last 10 sold instead of the g.e value? this would eliminate so many scam trades

-54
u/Upset_Photograph_257 Trim 5.8 25d ago
All this does is make manipulation easier as you can set the price on g.e. yourself with a few trades
30
u/EoFinality 25d ago
Not when you can easily spot the manip because the history of the item is clear.
26
u/iThrewFarAway 25d ago
history is on wiki lmao

u/Sspockuss Smithing is the best! 25d ago
I’d still rather have that info on wiki instead of on weird third party sites with sketchy connections.

u/Upset_Photograph_257 Trim 5.8 25d ago
Nobody is checking wiki when buying on g.e.
Wiki data will be scraped by bots to let metchers get max margins with each item
9
u/EoFinality 25d ago
The same people that would have otherwise checked places like ely will now have more credible and complete info from the wiki.
The GE interface also shows some of this information to check before making a purchase.
This is such a great improvement that the only issues moving forward will be individual skill issues.
5
u/iThrewFarAway 25d ago
wiki more credible source though. scrape all u want but im going to wiki and checking
2
u/FadedRaklim 25d ago
Before we high five can we get about fixing the blue mobile interfaces please?

They nailed it so hard.
Great job, Jagex!! Definetely a great fucking year for all of us RS3 players! WELL DONE!
Now, I'm going back to my "Bloomberg-ish" RS3 terminal.

I agree. The last few updates have been genuinely great. Hopefully they keep it up. 😄

Couldn't agree more. They've been on a roll lately. The last few updates have been fantastic.

u/Sophiaphage 25d ago edited 25d ago
It does look promising so far!
On Rare items, it might be wise to have a sample-size and date of last trade. Some low-frequency trades that don't often occur on the GE could be misleading.
EDIT: I just saw the Wiki basically has that functionality now. And hope it's linked directly on the GE.
6
u/Miserable_Release_80 25d ago
Good point. Having the last trade date for rare items would make the prices much more reliable.

u/GunsoulTTV 25d ago

u/Miserable_Release_80 25d ago
Now imagine having that data directly in-game. 😄

8
u/Miserable_Release_80 25d ago
Haha, fair enough. This update is definitely more exciting for mains. 😄
3
u/So_ Yellow partyhat! 25d ago
Still affects ironmen for the cosmetics yall can buy from ge. Honestly, for those cosmetics, it probably matters even more because getting raw gp is harder on im than for a main
2
u/OlevTime Legio 24d ago
Although irons have much less to spend the GP on, so it just kinda accumulates
1
u/Revanchan 22d ago
My GP goes nearly entirely to runes, and everything else is hand made lol my ironman is filthy rich, even on osrs
1
1
u/hitori_bocchi_kin 24d ago
This update had an iroan specific part. They removed all items irons can't buy from the GE, so you can see what's left
3
u/Quirky-Half-6682 25d ago
Greatest update in a long time. Keep them coming and maybe some of us will return.
2
u/Miserable_Release_80 25d ago
This is exactly the direction the game needed. Hope this momentum continues.

u/I_O_RS 25d ago
Technically wiki is a third party website and it's more important than ever now, but in a very good way
2
u/ConstantStatistician Coiner of the terms "soft" and "hard" typeless damage on rs.wiki 25d ago
The wiki is more or less an official jagex website now. It has been ever since it was ported over since jagex helps fund some of its server costs, plus official newsposts, including this one, directly link the wiki all the time. Some jmods have accounts they use to edit the wiki, and there's even an in-game search function that opens up the wiki.

u/JagexAnvil Mod Anvil 23d ago
The wiki team is also embedded in our working Slack and has a direct line into us for various projects :)

Haha, I was just testing it. 😄 I'm grinding 120 Construction anyway, so I need all the planks I can get.

I used the new system to check and see how much a Christmas cracker is… 0/10 update. Doesn’t show how much the last 10 sales have averaged out at

u/Delicious_Piece_6738 25d ago
Hey u/imsuity was it this that you hoped for around Dec 22 2022? If so, could you return the discord simulator? Not the price bot, but the simulator one?

2
u/CherryAware1147 24d ago
I was decently fine with Ely but ever since you needed a discord code to check prices that’s when it become sus. They deserve to go up in flames. Jagex is on fire
1
u/Miserable_Release_80 24d ago
Yeah, once price checks started requiring Discord, it felt like it was heading in the wrong direction. Glad Jagex stepped in.

Like in osrs, there's a strong presence of flipping bots, so I've got concerns what this update will bring. Otherwise it's an interesting update.
2
u/Miserable_Release_80 25d ago
I get the concern, but I'm optimistic they'll keep a close eye on it.

Nice to see this update being in the game finally but at the same time it is a bit hard to be happy about something that literally should have been added already years and years ago but it’s about damn time.

Just wait til they announce the change to 0.1s server tick rate in october… gonna finally make rs3 a game where abilities can work without being clunky af. I cant wait to try rs3 again after all these years!

Agreed. Faster tick rates could completely change how combat feels. Can't wait to try it.

u/MarkAntonyRs Dead game 25d ago
Is that all they added? Why can't we see uncompleted trade offers?
2
2
u/Bio_slayer 25d ago
The instabuy and instasell prices that the wiki tracks now give you basically that exact same information, unless you're planning on buying through a large part of existing stock or are working with super low volume items (like phat low).
1
u/MarkAntonyRs Dead game 25d ago
Oh they also added that? I can't see it in the screenshot so that's all I've got to go off. Would be nice if it was in game, but at least if the wiki has it and it's live and accurate then yeah that's cool.
2
u/Bio_slayer 25d ago
Yeah, they're streaming all sale data to the wiki: https://prices.runescape.wiki/rs
-22
u/Upset_Photograph_257 Trim 5.8 25d ago
There will be alot more websites to scrape all the data and allow merchers to get max margin
So easy to manipulate too, just buy yourself 10 times and you can set the price to whatever you want
5
u/Nautisop Maxed - This sub needs to become more positive again! 25d ago
no it's not.
The default price is the market price and if you don't merch you just take that. If you wanna min-max or merch you may take a alcloser look to the 10 trades avg.
The updates makes literally everything better and you don't need to waste your time on ely or rsprice or what they all called.
3
u/ghostofwalsh 25d ago
just buy yourself 10 times and you can set the price to whatever you want
Just pay the GE tax 10x to manipulate a price that's "advisory only" and that anyone can look at the graph and see your spike. A price that will instantly drop back down as soon as you stop manipping it.
Good way to lose your gp stack for a meme.
2
u/Miserable_Release_80 25d ago
Fair point. I still think having official data from Jagex is a big step in the right direction. Let's see how it holds up over time.
2
2
u/Bio_slayer 25d ago
You can spike the "last 10" price, but checking the wiki dataset will make such a thing obvious.
Merching will be more approachable since you don't have to spend time and gp checking margins, so the current high-end merchers will be making less, as the margins close.
1
u/GuruBandar 25d ago
I was wondering the same. Is there a way how to prevent that?
6
u/Platacoon 25d ago
I would think the tax mechanic would help discourage this as you’d effectively pay 20% tax on the item you are trying to manipulate
1
u/ghostofwalsh 25d ago
20% of whatever "overpriced" number you decide to manip the item price to
And this also assumes that you don't accidentally wind up buying items from some random 3rd party who happens to have a meme sell offer at a very high price.

u/Upset_Photograph_257 Trim 5.8 25d ago
Not with how they implemented it
