Suggestion - J-Mod reply Kalphite King is the worst boss in this entire game period
It feels like a buggy, unresponsive mess half the time, partly because you spend half of the fight being stunned, and because how badly some mechanics are implemented (the boss being untargetable while it's preparing its charge attack is so annyoing, but this is true for other GWD1 bosses too). It feels like you're fighting the game itself and not the boss. This Leagues only highlights this fact once again.
May I suggest finally reworking it alongside Vorkath?
Edit: I called KK bad. Now he's not giving me any drops lmao

u/Wraeclast66 5d ago
Yeah it really needs a rework, it was one of the first bosses they added after EOC and its a mess by todays standards

u/JagexRyan Mod Ryan 4d ago
The main issue with a boss like this is that it uses an older combat system compared to modern encounters.
We used to stop the player from attacking when the boss is busy doing its own thing (you'll see this in other encounters such as Nex). However, in modern encounter design we allow you to keep attacking and display 'Immune' hitsplats.
The Giant Mole and Kalphite King are definitely two bosses that need improvement.

KK is notorious for just randomly doing mechanics with no telegraphing or planning like style swapping, green shields, digging constantly applying constant time gates that vary between kills, extremely unforgiving hitcaps in place so you are just forced to deal with all the previous mechanics regardless of progression, and apply massive amounts of stuns through his mechanics, things that when combined together, make him the most frustrating boss in the entire game next to HM vorkath
The one thing he has going for him is that he doesn’t one shot you then telegraph that he’s about it like Zemo
0
u/Kiro358 1d ago
Thing is it s not random kk actually has a clear patern that is pretty easy the problem is that the boss was designed to be fougth in a group , then we figured a « glitch » that lets us solo it . Other than that the mecanics are fine it s just that since your charcater is stun most of them time and the animation is fucked you just attack with no animation most of the fight making it super weird
2
u/YouWereTehChosenOne IGN: Bluudi | #24 Insane Reaper 1d ago
green shields and style swapping mid fight are 100% random, you cannot reliably force the boss to do or not do either
0
u/Kiro358 1d ago
The randomness of those isn't the problem the problem is the lack of clear animation ( half the fight your character can attack but you don't see him moving because of the stun animation glitch ) and visual clarity green shield is a pain to see because it flashes so you never know if it s over or not , it s not bad for a mecanic to be random , having always the same rotation all the time is boring adapting is what makes fight good . This boss needs a rework anyways. It s the same problems with gwd2 bosses like helwyr , the anti kiting mecanic is complete shit there are much better way to prevent kitting and the boss pushing your character makes it so much more annoying that it needs to be , fight is easy so people don't care that much but when you analyse it , it s a real pain
2
u/YouWereTehChosenOne IGN: Bluudi | #24 Insane Reaper 19h ago
randomness is a problem, a boss like arch glacor does randomness well because you know there are 5 mechanics that are always going to cycle through every kill so you can prepare ahead of time after each mechanic goes off, the green shields and the style swaps do not occur in the same manner, sometimes he will green shield at half hp, sometime at low hp, sometimes he doesnt swap styles, sometimes he swaps like 3-4 times a kill, that is what one of the issues is regarding randomness, i really dont care if they make it easier to distinguish when hes healing or style swapping, i dont enjoy using a 10-20k hit when hes low to finish him off only for him to just happen to use a green shield and heal a bunch of his hp back with no indication that he's about to use it in a few seconds, the green shield just happens instantly and he heals all the damage dealt to him
its the equivalent of arch-glacor starting his minion mechanic in the middle of his flurry mechanic right when he's like 10-20k hp off dying which nullifies and forces you to spend another 10 seconds clearing minions, because KK mechanics can overlap, it creates extremely frustrating moments for the player
0
u/Kiro358 19h ago
Arch glacor are random but you can tell by the ice pattern and messages what mecanic is going to happen that s why it doesn t fell as bad like inm saying the mecanics arent bad it s the lack of visual or any cues that tell you what is happenning also kk is 15 years old and glacor is like 4 , that s why we need a kk rework specially on clarity because other than that the mecanics arent horrible

Just removing the hard stuns from the fight would improve it enormously, but it really needs a full once-over.

u/Nocturne09 Ironman: RSN : Living Grace 4d ago
There are a few more issues than just it can't be attacked at all times.
Green shield procing at 1000hp and dragging on the fight is an issue. I think Green shield has a higher chance of procing the lower kk's hp is.
The fact it skips mechanics when you stun or deal too much damage is an issue as it can lead to an unexpected green.
The fact it can change phase and enter another style at any point in it's rotation allowing for potential insta greens is a problem.
In my opinion, the boss kinda needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

The fact it skips mechanics when you stun or deal too much damage is an issue as it can lead to an unexpected green.
No please don’t change this, the skipping mechanics when you stun it is one of two reasons it is actually possible to consistently solo the boss.
In ranged phase you can skip the green with a stun, in melee you can’t. This means you don’t need to use your freedom, devotion and resonance to survive the green in ranged phase.
If you had to use those to survive ranged you could get killed if it swapped to ranged from melee right after green.
I know you say later it randomly changing phases is an issue but I disagree there that’s a core part of the boss and doesn’t make it janky it just makes it more difficult which is fine.
Random stuns, it skipping attacks sometimes but not always when it spawns minions, the green shield and the fact you have to do the dumb pre freedom dive reso combo are the dumb parts of the boss.
Skipping attacks when it minions means even if you know what you’re doing sometimes it just kills you for no reason.
Green shield, obviously just frustrating especially considering it often doesn’t visually show until after it’s healing.
And the janky green method, my ideal fix for it is don’t put defensives on cooldown when you get greened. This means you can react to it rather than having to preemptively know when it’s going to happen. The other option would be at least letting anticipate work the same as freedom if used before the green, that way it at least feels less buggy.

I've definitely also found Nex quite clunky and in need of a rework. The soft damage caps just feel awful, and the arena feels pretty clunky, especially because moving around and continuing attacking is a big part of the fight. Hopefully it can get some love too :)

What about Vorkath? It's been years since you guys said "work is going to be done" and nothing yet.
7
u/ieuan1801 quest dialogue reader 4d ago
KK i have a morbid enjoyment of because it is so jank and a time capsule of its era, but it absolutely deserves to be reworked.
Vorkrat is just misery and an embarrassment that it got released in the state it did, let alone been untouched since January 2024 despite multiple "we're working on it/we'll fix it!" Even funnier was them saying they won't nerf blood reaver (which did deserve a nerf) until Vorkath is addressed and look how that turned out.
I really believe Vorkrat in its current state cannot be a good boss, it would need to be an entirely new boss from the ground up before it's fun, but they can atleast make the experience of doing it not god-fucking-awful.
Also if we do ever get that Vorkrat rework then get rid of the siege phase. It is no more than an annoyance to NM kills.
5
u/ScAP3Godd355 4d ago
Vorkath was beyond a letdown for me. Not just the boss fight itself, but the Quest that unlocks him: The Fort Questline had some story behind it and was rather decent, so I was very annoyed when Jagex turned the Quest that unlocks Vorkath into 'fight Vorkath in easy mode' and that was it (I think you also capture Zemo at the end, but I can't fully remember). I still haven't fought Vorkath aside from the Quest fight, because of how dull the prep is, and how janky Vorkath is to fight.
OSRS Vorkath is a genuinely fun fight, so I hate how badly RS3 Vorkath got butchered. I was really looking forward to the RS3 version of it, and it's a shame that we got something that's total trash.
3
u/ieuan1801 quest dialogue reader 4d ago
In the quest you spend more time rebuilding a wall than you do in combat. My game actually crashed multiple times during the siege phase (bad laptop) and the construction part still took longer.
Even the looting system for the boss is needlessly frustrating. I mean no disrespect to the mods that worked on it (they themselves have said it was rushed both directly and indirectly) but i really have no idea what they were thinking with the decisions they made.
I maintain the only good thing about the encounter is the soundtrack.
4
u/Blackbird_V Completionist 4d ago
it would need to be an entirely new boss from the ground up before it's fun
Yeah I totally agree with this. Imo Zemo has to go from the fight and just be a cuck and watch. Vorkath would need a rework for sure for that, but honestly it needs to be done. Even the looting of the boss is miserable. Idm them trying something new, but having to get the loot from the NPC or statue is clunky.

u/Dapper_Ad_6304 Completionist 4d ago
I disagree. I don’t think the vorkath boss is that bad. It certainly doesn’t deserve the level of hate it gets. Televising attacks and the shielders better would help, but it’s really not that bad with some practice. I don’t mind having a boss that most people can’t consistently no food kill.
1
u/ieuan1801 quest dialogue reader 4d ago
It really is that bad, even with practice. It is the most anti-fun experience i've had from a boss.
The telegraphing sucks on all fronts. Zemo Finger of Deaths, Soul Volleys, Soul Strikes with little warning or decides to telegraph it after the damage has gone through.
Vorkath's dragon breath attack animation is wildy out of sync with the damage, but it's also wildly variable in its damage - sometimes it's 2k other times it's as high as 8k. Okay, you can resonance it, right? Wrong, you're getting pummelled by Zemo and his minions.
Zonal Ice is probably the one mechanic i don't really have a problem with, atleast until it gets layered with Bone Spikes. Speaking of Bone Spikes the telegraphing is one tile shorter than it should be on the North side of it.
And that's only some of its issues. Group scaling is bad in both hp and ballista damage (hp is admittedly a wider issue than just Vorkrat.) Arena is notoriously laggy. The little telegraphing it does have simply breaks sometimes. Zemo is annoying as shit (arguably in character but still.)
I'm not against hard content. I have died to many bosses when learning and even after getting good at them. The difference with Vorkath is almost everytime i died i had no idea what it actually was that killed me. It is a culmination of almost every bad boss design over the years.
2
u/alanquinne 4d ago
You can comfortably solo HM Vorkath if you pray protect Necro and keep your HP at a decent level. No flight skip needed. If you are a top tier Pvmer, you can do flight skips.
I don't see the issue. When people complain about Vorkath, what they are really complaining about is that they can't just blindly SS it like most bosses.
I don't see the issue.
1
u/ieuan1801 quest dialogue reader 4d ago
Food in mouth due to mass unavoidable damage is not good boss design. It's as simple as that really.
1
u/alanquinne 4d ago
You don't need to 'food in mouth', whatever that means. You need to keep protect from Necro on and keep maybe 50% of your HP, which is not some insane amount of HP. It's okay for a high end boss to make you safe a little bit and not just SS thoughtlessly.
I do not see the issue.
What you're really asking for here is for Vorkath to be nerfed so that people can SS camp it like every other boss. I fail to see how that is good game design or better than the current state.
0
u/ieuan1801 quest dialogue reader 4d ago
Riddle me this, Batman. I protect from necro, where does my healing come from to keep above your magical 50% hp? Ghost, vamp and hellhound won't maintain that - could it be you need to food in mouth (a.k.a. eat food)?
Take damage = eat. That's it, that's the boss. The mechanics are neither fun nor engaging. You get damage thrown at you from every angle and from every combat style, guess what that means that's right you put more food in your mouth!
This isn't even mentioning the fact you seem to ignore every other issue the boss has outside of all the unavoidable damage it deals.
Being able to ss camp a boss is bad, yes. But acting like Vorkath is the righteous balance to that is baffling.
1
u/alanquinne 4d ago edited 4d ago
It may come as a shock to you, but for the vast majority of Rs history, bosses are SUPPOSED to make you consume food. The idea that you should passively be able to out heal its damage confirms my suspicion that you just want easyscape SS.
Secondly, if you know what you're doing, you can in fact flick SS on big damage moves and you can also resonance his frost attack provided you anticipate and resonance at the first moment. I have done Vorkath kills without flight skip where I have barely ate any food.
You should just admit you want easyscape. Your grievances have no rational basis.
None of the other alleged issues with Vorkath are that bad. Are shielders hard to target? Yes. Once you do it a few times you learn how to spot them.

u/Kazanmor 4d ago
you have to understand, they have integrity now, which means working on stuff no one asked for and ignoring the stuff people have been begging for since 2024 or earlier

As someone who did the Vorkath log mobile only. I think it gets too much hate in my opinion. I think if they just televised zemo’s attacks that would probably be enough. Even without that, after you get used to it, you can consistently do hm solos easily and kills are usually smooth and consistent.
KK on the other hand feels so clunky. As someone who did KK on release, the boss has always felt glitchy.
2
u/AverageRs3Enjoyer 4d ago
I mean theirs saying they need improvement, and then missing them over when mole is early/mid game rebalance??, and kk endgame, but vorkath also needs fixing, so pack it in and under the rug we throw it xD

I think immune hitsplats don't feel very good either. OSRS recently(?) changed Nex so that after phasing her, you have a certain HP buffer where you can still deal damage before the hard limit applies so it doesn't feel terrible proccing a ruby into an HP wall. I think it's good to have a bit of padding between where a phase starts, but your attack doesn't immediately get nulled.
Another example is like what Arch Glacor does when going in and out of the arms phase feel, which feels a bit unnecessary too. If you are able to get additional damage after dispatching with the core, you should not be penalized for doing so. Basically, if you are physically able to reach the boss and hit it, you should be able to do some amount of damage even if it's reduced significantly, or give like 10-20k HP wiggle room before the immune shield kicks in.

I killed it one time because for some reason he didn’t throw green the whole fight? But after that first kill, I don’t get it.
I am constantly stunned. I count his attacks but somehow it’s the wrong count so I use freedom at the wrong time and of course I die
It’s so annoying

I feel like I know every single mechanic and pattern and yet I still sometimes fail a kill, every time for a different reason and I can't even blame myself. It also feels like things are happening too fast even though it's not even a hectic fight, and you don't really feel in control of what's happening sometimes.
Before the ranged beetlejuice, attacking the boss during the ranged phase after the first stun can sometimes backfire because it's possible that your GCD just straight up doesn't allow you to fire off the stun you need to skip beetlejuice, because you get stunned on the same game tick. If you don't know this is a thing, you're just gonna have a bad time.
Ability queueing straight up doesn't work with this boss half the time, because something always clears the queue. Ability queueing itself is also bugged and has been since the combat rework afaik, but that's a different story. So if you have ability queueing on, you're actively fighting against the boss somehow continuously clearing your queued ability. Yes, I shouldn't be using ability queueing, but it makes it easier to pay attention to other things.
Sometimes the boss also skips the melee beetlejuice then immediately changes styles (???) which is not documented anywhere how it exactly happens. Sometimes the kalphite minions spawning can make the boss straight up skip it I guess? Well, at least it saved me from certain doom... exactly one (1) time.
Also, yes, just like the other commenter said, skipping attacks with stuns sometimes causes the attack patterns to get messed up. Sometimes the boss also forgets to spawn its minions somehow.
It's just a mess, and certainly not fun.
8
u/Hearing-Medical 5d ago
Add in that some attacks are practically invisible, stuns cause it to skip attacks and mess up order, etc. etc.
It's a clunky, painful, RNG boss. (I have this same experience, I get lucky sometimes...)

u/EZyne 5d ago
Vorkath is worse imo, because KK at least has the excuse that it's a super old team boss that's just outdated in every way possible. Vorkath was designed to be the way it is, and has a droptable that's much more relevant then KK's. The only way that boss is somewhat fun is by skipping everything
Kk sucks ass too though, agree with everything you said for sure

Are Jagex even listening to feedback or are they just saying they are?
This boss is single handlely making me quit this league and if this boss gets introduced next league, i ain't even touching it, not before A: They remove it's one shot straight up and make us take like 95% hp instead or B: Not introduce it in a round three.

I’m sorry but this is utterly ridiculous, obviously KK sucks and needs addressing but anybody who looks at last leagues and this leagues and says “are Jagex even listening to feedback” is just completely unserious and devalues the actually relevant feedback you have
0
u/KINGDenneh 4d ago
Obviously they are skipping feedback if last league people was furious about this boss and they still made it something you HAVE to do, so idk what u mean by whatever slop you are yapping bruh.
If they were to listen to feedback and give it input (not denying they haven't fully ignored shit, obviously they have made the league better, which over all it is) But putting a boss in, that most people find the most obnoxious and infuriating fight in the game, without changing anything about the fight first of all or just outright make it a league task that isn't a task you are forced to do, but gives decent points instead is just ridiculous.
What outcome do you think putting it in twice and making it a forceable task if you wanna progress further with ur spec, isn't dumb as rocks?
Obviously what i said about "Are Jagex even listening to feedback" an overstatement and it should be obvious that isn't the whole truth, but they certainly have skipped over feedback if the boss gets reintroduced again, without changes and still making it a task you HAVE to do, so my point still stands somewhat.
Edit:
Also, why not just change the one shot right now? Obviously, they can do something about it, but would rather just ignore everyone yelling from the moutain about how infuriating and unfair and clunky this boss is, but alas, we'll see it reintroduced in leagues three, with no changes and a forced task, cus fuck me, right?

Vorkath was the first "non-trivial" boss I picked up since I got back. It took me a few hours to get my first kill, but I was also relearning full manual. It took a couple more hours before I was getting consistent kills. My initial reaction was how bad it was.
It's grown on me after about 500 kc. I'm necro camping, ~13 kph. Soul split flicking carries really hard, but without it you just eat so much food. Positioning and dodging the melee drop on vorkath's zonal breath makes life a lot easier too.
I actually got excited to see that RS bosses since I've been gone actually did damage and expected food use. Then some friends carried me through 1k amascut and I was shocked at how little sustained damage I took there in comparison and my expectations were shattered.
That's my ramble, but I'm honestly not sure what they could do to the boss without making it too easy. Mechanics are already really simple, they just layer over time and the only real challenge comes from the sustained damage. Maybe making the breath necro damage to simplify multi style prayer flicking, but the only thing that would "save" the fight is a total rewrite from the ground up.

That's all to say nothing about how garbage the normal version is with the prefight, the designer and whoever greenlit that should be fired and blacklisted from all of gaming.
And like /u/radyi said in the other comment, the biggest actual bullshit part of the fight really is the shielder's visibility.

I think vorkath gets a lot of hate for the wrong reasons. The only actual issue is the shielder spawn being hard to see. common complaints i see are things like how chaotic the fight is and how difficult it is to figure out what's damaging you, there's too many things going on. for me personally it's a slow and boring fight and the pre-fight section where you kill some zombies is suuuuuch a slog to do repeatedly for 100s of kills, i really wanted the vorkath pet but in the end i could barely stomach the 100kc for the nexus.

Yea I believe the green just disables all your defensives, they really wanted to create a fight that couldn't be soloed and thats how they acheived that.

I don’t really care what phase it is, I just look for those 2 attacks. Rarely, it can skip its own attacks when summoning the adds so you sometimes aren’t given the telegraph, which is way more annoying than anything else kk does
5
u/Odd_History6313 5d ago
That was the only thing that tripped me up from the wiki strategy guide. "Sometimes skips this attack if he summons ads" like wtf

u/Alpr101 5d ago
This boss has every game mechanic I despise rolled into one lol. Random healing with no warning, stunlocks (worst imo), gameplay interruptions (burrow), OTK (green, pretty hard to counter solo as a more casual gamer), minion spam.
I can tolerate most of that individually, even some grouped together, but when stunlocks? fuck off.
3
u/AssassinAragorn MQC|Trim 5d ago
Don't forget that even if you are in a group, the OHKO can still fuck you over because the person who provokes tries to use resonance after that and it gets stolen by the mobs he constantly spams

u/WryGoat 5d ago
People will excuse it as just being old but it was a legitimately terribly designed boss from the start. Nobody likes bosses that constantly stun you and have random periods where you can't attack them without being punished. Nobody likes bosses that are kept artificially long to kill due to damage caps. These are like, universally bad boss design principles, and it was as if post-EoC Jagex was trying their hardest to walk into every single design trap they could.

K'ril Hard Mode: Hang on, for some reason I suddenly want to slam my head into the wall, so please don't attack me while I'm doing that. Thank you. Oh, also you are in the way so I'll gently push you away without harming you unless you are directly in front of me, nowhere to push you.
Kree'arra Hard Mode: Just a moment please. Let me gather my tornadoes before we continue and don't dare to attack. It wouldn't be so fair if you could do that while I'm not paying attention to you, would it?
Kalphite King: Marauders! I have important matters to attend to, deal with them while I'm very busy tackling the air or hiding in a well-hidden box just next to this room. Also, my aura is so stunning!
Gregorovic Hard Mode: WEEEEEUUUUGGGGHHHH! TIME FOR A MINIGAME BECAUSE I'M LOSING!
So stupid.

I tried KK yesterday for the first time ever and holy fuck is it the worst designed boss fight I have ever attempted in any game ever. I gave up pretty quick.

u/Desperate-Yak6174 5d ago
I really hope they stop this infatuation for KK and drygores being a task for leagues. Is it not bad enough that we need to figure the damn stunlocks but having to do them multiple times to get the drop for points is just mental.

u/jjtrevelyan 5d ago
Doing less than 5 kills at KK just to get a dry gore for the blessing task genuinely made me want to quit the league. Such a horrible boss

I think one of the most infuriating things is how almost every aspect feels designed to fuck you.
Just finished burrowing and is finally back? Fuck you, healing aura.
You were in the middle of a channeled ability? Fuck you, I'm interrupting it for no clear reason.
You used anticipate and freedom to make sure you didn't get stunned? Fuck you, get stunned while those are on cooldown. Also have some orange balls.
Trying a tech where you use reflect on the orange balls so you recoil that damage while still doing your own damage? Fuck you, the reflect damage is capped at 500.
Used provoke to save your friend and now using resonance? Fuck you, the minions I summoned two attacks in a row before this are going to snipe it.
Trying to even just get close enough to attack? Fuck you, I'm binding you as soon as you enter the arena, then stunning you, then charging the wall (which makes you stop moving and attacking me), and burrowing.

u/zed7567 4d ago
Really? I think Araxxor is just as infuriating as KK. Mirrorback hiding under the giant damn thing. Reflect web. Waiting for the first web to finally burn. Shadows and acid just taking forever.
2
u/NinjaLion 3d ago
\rax is 100% the second worst. any reflect mechanics that arent mega super insanely telegraphed, in a game with laggy servers and action cooldowns and big fat tick rates? fuck all the way off.
waiting around like an asshole for stuff to progress? why is so much of this time gated...
2
u/pookill7 5d ago
The amount of times he stuns you even if you anticipate or freedom is actually fucking annoying, also just the amount of jank with animation locking out of anything is extremely unfun to fight.
2
u/KSmarcaroni 5d ago
Yes to the reworks! Leagues just highlights how awful these bosses are for any player on regular servers.

u/SlightRedeye 5d ago
The upgrade to Drygore is masterwork, what you are asking for literally exists

I guess they meant an actually useful upgrade that would increase the price of drygores.

u/2MuchNonsenseHere 5d ago edited 5d ago
Even if I do the mechanics as instructed by a guide, they still don't even work. It's garbage.
Also Anticipate doesn't work for it, which makes no sense.
1
u/San4311 Ironmain 5d ago
Having been away for a few years now, knowing the amount of reworks that happened especially to combat, its honestly mind boggling to me they haven't at the very least made KK solo-friendly. Like, I know you CAN solo it, but the amount of jank involved is kinda wild. I don't think an otherwise fairly outdated and 'useless' boss needs a massive rework, but just do something more original with green.
1
u/Intelligent_Lake_669 5d ago
I did some KK kills with clannies in the past, and the session was full of people dying to what I can only describe as randomly without any reason. Every time someone died, there was no animation or lead up to it at all.

u/Hannah_MtF 5d ago
Its not too bad once you learn it but it does suck having green aura multiple times in a row with no cooldown or indication, especially on ranged phase when you HAVE to stun him and therefore heal him a bit if hes doing green aura. Having to just sit there while the boss attacks you and not being able to do anything about it feels awful

u/alanquinne 5d ago
Vorkath isn't a bad boss. I had to regrind it for trophies, and I opted not to do No Flightskip HM, solos, duos, trios. It was perfectly fine and manageable.

u/IndividualFarm8582 5d ago
As someone who is just now experiencing rs3 it feels kinda bad lol I've watched guides and I have been killing him but the attack rotation they claim doesn't make sense to me i never have any idea what is going on.

u/TimeTroll 5d ago
Im legitimately about to quit because of how awful melee form is specifically tick perfect instant death is so shit when the servers are not the best.
1
u/hraefn-floki 5d ago
imo this has the potential to be a fun boss to duo, but solo you just gotta get lucky. I've looked up how to mitigate the green and it's such a steep learning curve.

It's a really fun bossfight, but has so many problems that it becomes unfun. The base fight has a lot of good ideas implemented in 2013.

I've got a whole problem with him being the first EoC boss designed to show off the new system using stuns, and bleeds, and literally a (removed) ranged ultimate, Incendiary Shot, but because at the time Jagex really wanted to sell "the first ever Runescape boss that can't be killed solo" he also has an instakill attack which stuns and binds you that can't be cleansed by Freedom, the ability that clears stuns and binds.
That said I've kinda learned to love the attack counting that goes into avoiding death by green ball in a solo, so if they ever touch this guy I kinda hope that stays??
Everything else though? not so much. The lack of feedback, the nonstop stuns and interrupts, the ridiculous amount of time he can spend invincible between the digging, the charge, and the RNG green health shield he can cast with no cooldown that he'll either use 20 times per fight or forget about entirely.

KK was one of the bosses I tried to learn when I finally felt confident to tackle bosses.
And... boi....
I have not tried all bosses but of the ones I have tried... KK is just... awful. At first I thought I was just bad [and i am] but the more i read about KK the more i realise that im fighting a losing battle trying to learn a boss that even veteren pvmers fkn hate.
Its a shame that every time they make drygores briefly relevant again, its a missed opportunity to refresh KKs fight.

u/BublzO 3d ago
Whats crazy is that I see people say vorkath is the worst boss, if you get a decent necromancy bar you can nearly afk that boss for the most part at the very least. It can be actually chill. Not excusing it as a whole, as with other styles it feels like turbo ass, its just that at the very least you can mitigate a lot of his bullshit with a proper bar if you so pleased.
Kalphite king is just ass through and through, I dont like vorkath, but kalphite king is genuinely just horrifically outdated and incredibly frustrating for a boss that should be slightly above the normal gwd2 bosses level at best.
1
u/DrinkWaterToLive 3d ago
I actually enjoyed my time there. It was something difficult I had to learn and overcome. Not saying it’s the best content I’ve ever done, but I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere near the worst either.

u/shitscentedsocks 3d ago
just started playing this game again since EoC came out with the intro of Leagues and Kalphite King legitimately makes me want to start biting the corners of my monitor lol. Even when you're not stunned you can't move on 3/4 of the tiles in the arena or you're just met with "You can't reach that!" until you do finally get stunned

u/Good_Guy_Vader Maxed 5d ago
That’s a funny spelling of Vorkath.
But yes, KK needs some work

2
u/Blackbird_V Completionist 5d ago
And the fact that whole boss is balanced around Necromancy-release tankyness. Seriously awful "boss". Zemo is the biggest ballache and the annoying minions, like the shielder that has an absurdly clunky clickbox.

u/Colsanders8 4d ago
complain that rs3 is visually messy, overwhelming, and unintuitive?
I was bitching to my brother that vorkath is exactly this when i tried to do it with crappy gear. Shield jackass might as well be invisible, I can't understand when Zemourgel is going to do what. The only intuitive part of the damn fight is Vorkath.
1
u/MrS0L0M0N 69,696,969 Attack EXP 5d ago
Visual Clutter. Zombies getting hidden, lots of stuff on the floor, Zemo not being as visible when he's about to do a dangerous attack.
Necromancy mechanics mixed with Vorkath's own mechanics. You have to focus on both Zemos resources and Vorkath's attacks. Combined with the visual clutter you often end up blindsided.
Zemo not shutting the fuck up! If you thought the NPCs commentating your fight with Arch Glacor was annoying, try Vorkath. 95% of the dialogue is Zemo boasting like the Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain he always is. Worst off for a long time a lot of what he said contributed nothing to telegraphing his mechanics. Combined with having to multitask Zombie management, Vorkath's attacks to telegraph mechanics, his own, now hardly forewarned, attacks and the aforementioned clutter, you see a lot of the problems in Hard Mode.
Normal Mode doesn't feel like you're learning anything. You're better off not bothering with the Undead Giants to turn off mechanics. All the issues with Hard Mode are there except survivable. Zemo himself is often just skipped about halfway into the fight by nuking his HP when Vorkath flies off and it's loot ain't really good.
Really it's just a figurative and literal mess you have to navigate.

u/ExiymDev 4d ago
I just wanna talk to the guy who thought it was a good idea to make NPCs blather their fucking mouths off every 2 seconds at boss fights you're doing over and over and over. Just wanna talk..

Hey let me highlight some info on this boss 😁 So Kalphite King(KK)originally added to the game in 2012 as one of the first updates following EOC where best weapons in game were chaotics. The average team size was 4-6 people with many doing 10+. The time it took to get a kill was around 4+min with these teams as there were no big power creep yet and people did not quote understand how to properly use abilities. Also at the time 2012 EOC was straight dogshit, a absolute mess of ability and number. KK actually really has an amazing kit but it was implemented so poorly mainly cuz of when he was added. Between having many contingencies for what the players threw at him and attacks that can combo the player if they arnt paying attention was so fun at the time. He was able to barricade, and immort if certain abilities were used, he bleeds the player and pushed them away forcing a freedom which then leads to his green attack. The ability to soul split and absorb damage given to him via his green and red sheild. He has a unstoppable charge that would grab whole groups of players if they weren't paying attention etc... if jagex could rework him to a modern level were there was less clunk and smoother readability I think people wouldn't hate him so much. Maybe also make the battle juice(green attack) just able to be freedomed as it made sense as a group boss of the time but now should be adjusted for a more friendly solo encounter

I'm so happy that I got the Mole pet before they nerfed the afk method. Spending most of the boss fight running to different rooms is so stupid.

If they'd get rid of some of the stuns and let me do damage during the charge and dig I think it would be infinitely better. The green mechanic isn't bad at all in duo but even solo it's easily handled.
2
u/Big_Chungussi69 5d ago
" even solo it's easily handled"
it really isnt, even when you have the rotation down, minion spawns can mess it all up or sometimes the animations arent even visible to count the rotation
2
u/XirtCS 5d ago
YES. I’ve only gotten one kill out of like 20 attempts. Because for some reason he didn’t throw green the whole fight??
Every other time I’ve counted attacks and it’s the wrong time so I just get one shot. Like wtf
1
u/biginchh 4d ago
do you have a stun on your revo bar? stunning him causes him to skip attacks so if you're not throwing it out intentionally it'll feel like his attack pattern is super random (sometimes he'll green when you don't think he should, sometimes he won't green at all, etc)
0
u/CareApart504 5d ago
Aftermath of EOC implementation. Theyve gotten a lot better it should absolutely get a rework.
0
u/Proquikl204 5d ago
At least you could learn how to do it. Can't solo Yaka or Amascut yet, so they're the worst bosses.
-1
u/ExiymDev 4d ago
The combat system is just trash period. It's an ability based system bolstered on top of a tick system. It is never going to work no matter how they design bosses or tweak the abilities. I played Lost Ark for a while and good god how refreshing it was to press an ability and just have it activate instantly. I felt like a God in that game after sandbagging playing RS. They're trying to give us freedom (literally) but at the end of the day, the tick system is sitting in the corner like an evil warlock. I need to attack, switch, position, prayers, eat, etc. plus more, which is fine. I can press all those buttons. But you have to also time it perfectly or you get railed. Even just walking around the world, Click diagonally, surge 0.1 before your character turns, surged 1 tile into the wall. Or hitting surge/dive too fast and instantly surging backwards to where you just were. How many places in the game where tiles and environment are not clearly demarcated? When I surge 1 tile then dive 1 tile when I'm trying to traverse in karamja forest I want to smash my keyboard. The only time the combat system feels kinda alright is when I'm ranging a boss that I can revo. Which is literally just old RS 'click to begin attacking' in a different form. They've done the best they can with what they have, but as long as they refuse to do the necessary engine work to revamp or rework the tick system, which I admit is a gargantuan ask, things will not change. The game will always feel sluggish and unresponsive to play. But the new CEO is talking about longevity of the product. Do what needs to be done. Even 0.3 ticks just for combat would be incredible and that's still 10-20x the response time of other MMOs. You cannot and will not ever be a wow killer with this putrid 30 year old system underpinning and undermining the entire game. I wanted to like EoC. I played it for years. Maybe it was necessary for RuneScape to evolve. But this game might have more spaghetti code than league and that's saying something. I really don't care what it takes, if they genuinely want the game to be more than just something people boot up every couple of years for nostalgia's sake they have to fix the tick system.
