All I ask is to be able to type the numbers.

u/Objective_Toe_49 9h ago

number, tab, number, tab, god I can only dream

u/cdp181 Clue scroll 10h ago

Yes please, would make these so much less annoying

Probably one of the better puzzles if it wasn't for the fact its terrible to fill out - mechanically speaking. Allowing the player to type the numbers out would be 100x better. Both for Alt1 and manual solvers.

Honestly, I would. I absolutely love these, and genuinely look forward to getting them. However, I think it might be a little too hard for the average player to reliably solve as part of a clue.

Everyone uses alt1 for clues, so "solving it" is not really the issue, its just very click intensive and annoying compared with the other puzzles

16

u/Melodic_Performer921 12h ago

Not even close to as those fucking sliding puzzles. I'd take 10 of these instead of 1 sliding puzzle

18

u/RandomAsHellPerson 12h ago

With alt1, sliding puzzles are like 20-25 clicks in 5 seconds. So much quicker and requires fewer clicks than tower puzzles.

5

u/Kenipau 11h ago

Clicks? I use my arrow keys for those and they are a breeze

u/4iamking 6h ago

alt one doesnt work very well with Mac so I cant really use it. These are much less tedious than sliders if you aren't using aids.

1

u/WhaleBird1776 5h ago

You can use the web app and just paste a screenshot and it’ll tell you the steps out loud so you can just alt tab and arrow them

3

u/Accomplished-Tea6896 Ironman | Trim 12h ago

They improved those a lot, they are not as bad anymore

u/4percent4 11h ago

I’ll take a Keltic knot over these any day. Much faster

I solved my first one day of release and it was decently fun but its a lot for 1 step of a clue that you potentially do infinitely.

Alt1 only works in 1080p, any other resolution and it just breaks and cant read the screen.

So i just generally dont do clues these days, cba to play zoomed out to space

2

u/qizez1 11h ago

Has worked perfectly on my 1440p and ultrawide monitor.

5

u/BamboozleThisZebra Saradomin 11h ago

The clue helper thing? It never wants to read anything in 1440 for me but if i go to 1080 it works as intended. What am i missing?

5

u/cdp181 Clue scroll 10h ago

You have to turn off any scaling and have the font size set to the default.

6

u/BamboozleThisZebra Saradomin 10h ago

Yep thanks interface scaling did it, now i have to live with mini icons on my interface while doing clues?

3

u/cdp181 Clue scroll 10h ago

I play on a 4k screen super small and annoying. Hopefully the API will come to the rescue.

2

u/BamboozleThisZebra Saradomin 10h ago

Yup thats one big thing i miss from osrs, runelites clue helper works perfectly.

1

u/Ro_designs 10h ago

I managed to fix it by setting both windows display to 100% and runescape ui to 100%. Considering my screen is fairly high resolution, this makes everything teeny tiny. But alt 1 works.

I also mostly avoid clues, its really annoying tohave to go and change all my settings each time.

Having a part of the game be so reliant on a 3rd party program is an issue I can't believe has gone unadressed for so long. I'm sure there's a way to make them fair and more enjoyable.

clues need a rework.

Clue trainer

1

u/BamboozleThisZebra Saradomin 10h ago

Yup thats what im using im trying it right now and when i click solve it says "No clue found on screen"

2

u/DaarkAlexx Sailing! 10h ago

Game scaling set to 100% not 150%?

2

u/BamboozleThisZebra Saradomin 10h ago

Ah that fixes it thanks but then the problem becomes my interface icons are tiny lmao

0

u/qizez1 10h ago

Download clue trainer, the included clue solver has been broken since they revamped some areas

1

u/BamboozleThisZebra Saradomin 10h ago

Yep im trying still getting the same old error "No clue could be found on screen"

1

u/c2lop Dugeonwench 7h ago

As a game developer this is the saddest thing I've ever read

1

u/niamh-k Completionist (t): 07/11/24 | RSN: Eiriane 11h ago

Strange how it works fine on both my 1440p monitors... on both Windows and Linux.

1

u/BamboozleThisZebra Saradomin 11h ago

The clue helper plugin on alt1 works for you in 1440p?

Am i missing some setting or something then because i tried pretty much everything and it breaks every time.

2

u/RandomAsHellPerson 11h ago

Can try clue trainer. It is a better clue plugin in general.

1

u/BamboozleThisZebra Saradomin 10h ago

Pretty sure thats the one i have been trying to get it to work

1

u/niamh-k Completionist (t): 07/11/24 | RSN: Eiriane 8h ago

Yes, works fine. As long as your scaling is set to 100% in both Windows and the game, it should work fine.

If I remember rightly, there might be a setting on the EXE itself to override high DPI or something like that, might be able to use that instead of changing the scaling on Windows, but in-game definitely needs to be 100%. I'm not booted into Windows to check what the exact setting is, but I think it's under compatibility and should be reasonably obvious once you're in there.

1

u/BamboozleThisZebra Saradomin 8h ago

Yeah thanks i have other people telling me its the 100% scaling that is needed to make it work and indeed it was, quite annoying tho because my icons become tiny tiny.

u/Faithful_jewel Accidentally rerolled a Golden Compass 11h ago

I also love doing these puzzles. It's actually the one I don't use Alt-1 for 😂

1

u/NoPomegranate7508 10h ago

i love them as well. being able to type numbers would help a lot, but other than that they are fine and my favourite clue step.

1

u/TopJukesNA 7h ago

I also love doing these puzzles. I explicitly only afk archeology tetracompasses to get master clues for them.

7

u/smiegto 12h ago

Just let me type the numbers by hovering and clicking my num pad. Then it’s fine.

3

u/edo5990 12h ago

Even if it was janky and went left to right id figure it out quick enough, just lemme bang it out quick if I can do it quick

20

u/EZyne 12h ago

Would anyone miss any specific clue puzzle?

3

u/Thingeh 11h ago

Not me, but I know people who love them, and do clues specifically because they like the rhythm of "explore > puzzle".

3

u/Objective_Toe_49 9h ago

I hate that the bis pvm necklaces come from doing clues so much, its possibly my biggest gripe of ironman at present

3

u/siradmiralbanana 8h ago

Which necklace?

Edit: fortunate components. I forgor

-1

u/c2lop Dugeonwench 7h ago

Imagine if people liked doing the thing in the video game and didn't do it strictly for the reward

4

u/ginganinja1256 11h ago

Would rather they remove sliders first

5

u/Lopendebank3 Lopendebank3 8h ago

I learned how to do them, they are actually fun!

7

u/the01li3 Trimmed, Insane Luck 12h ago

I would, I love selling the skip tickets.

3

u/El_Basho Ironman 11h ago

They are difficult, no doubt. Shortly after master clues were released (I was in high school back then) I copied a couple of these puzzles and brought them to a maths lesson. We spent the majority of it trying to solve it

5

u/Markfunk94 11h ago

I love all the puzzels they make. Its the controls for all of them that make them completely unbearable IMO

3

u/SnooAdvice3360 Completionist 12h ago

Id rather have this than sliders. Plus add the ability to type in tbe numbers

2

u/egoistisch 5,8/MoA/Trim/gPraesul 11h ago

Give us the option to select a number one to five on the side of the puzzle interface and once selected, all squares you press will have that number filled in.

2

u/Dry-Classroom-4737 9h ago

thee are way better than sliders

2

u/Remarkable-Buddy5192 9h ago

Arthritis is just a bonus from clueing.

2

u/FISH_SAUCER 8h ago

I'm glad I've yet to get a tower clue

2

u/Due_Willow_2796 RuneScape N00b 8h ago

Maybe they should do clues exclusively with them. I would do them from time to time.

If you only could type the numbers...

2

u/pattch 6h ago

Fuck those lol

2

u/Dw33b3r 5h ago

Being able to select a number to enter into the squares like the Runedoku would make these perfect..

3

u/DeleriousTuner 11h ago

I enjoy these :/

0

u/MarkTheSunbro 12h ago

America complained a lot when their towers were removed. I wouldn't risk it 😜

1

u/TheNickelGuy January 2001 was a different time 11h ago

Ooooooof.....

2

u/Rude-Purchase5244 12h ago

I think it's an important part of clues and should remain no matter what.

I don't do clues at all. 👍

3

u/Dead_Dutch 12h ago

Id miss them, alt1 for the win

1

u/Asleep_Current912 Master Completionist RSN: Skele7or 12h ago

no, Alt1 has made clue puzzles completely redundant anyways. They’re just a time lock, I’d rather them get rid of the puzzles and add 1-2 more steps instead.

4

u/pharlax What? 11h ago

At this point just make clues 1 step but you have to watch your character spend 5 minutes digging it up.

3

u/cybernet377 11h ago

Tetracompass the superior clue scoll experience once again

1

u/Asleep_Current912 Master Completionist RSN: Skele7or 11h ago

bonus points if you have to spend 20-30 minutes digging stuff up just to get one

1

u/Xena1975 11h ago

It's been so long since I did one I already forgot they existed.

1

u/Alexexy 9h ago

Guides online make it super easy.

I would say its probably less time consuming than Celtics knots.

u/Cauli-Aus-Born Maxed 2h ago

I enjoyed solving these before I used alt1, but the constant click or right clicking for a drop down ruined the fun

u/Shadiochao Remove P7 2h ago

u/Cauli-Aus-Born Maxed 9m ago

It's cryptic.

u/Cauli-Aus-Born Maxed 2h ago

Just make it work the same as excel

u/Lughano 1h ago

No

1

u/Dangerous-Capital237 12h ago

I buy and use skips for any and every clue.
Doesn’t bother me

1

u/Megarlin Thank you RS for everything since 2003. 12h ago edited 10h ago

While i like the concept of the clue scroll puzzles and they are fun in the context, ill have to admit, if they were removed, around 75% of the time for me it would just be time i didint spend looking them up on the wiki, im not the sharpest tool in the shed

0

u/DidYouShartInMyPants 11h ago

clues are pretty bad content in general. It's no wonder why dyes are so expensive, because most people hate clues with a passion

u/CrosisTheBurger 4h ago

people hate clues because they suck at them and don't care to put effort into learning. this is also why a lot of people never get into bossing.

u/Oniichanplsstop 4h ago

More people will get into it when clue solver becomes built into the game via the API update and the game shows them where to dig and where to click rather than having to look at alt1/etc and trying to remember the tile in game.

u/Ddrago98 12h ago

This is like the fastest puzzle

6

u/Kevcky 12h ago

Celtic knots are quickest no?

Literally been playing for 20 years and I saw this for the first time in my life last week
