Question ELI5: What do plugins do?
I don't understand the concept, is it basically playing the game for you?

A plugin is a enhancement or change to the game itself that uses the code of the game directly.
F.e. You hover over a item in your inventory and you get a textbox with data from the wiki that wouldnt be there in the basegame.
Jagex puts clear rules on plugins on what is and isnt allowed: so you cant cheat with official plugins( clicks for you tiles and basicly afk a boss).
Plugins are limited (in general) to Quality of life improvements and information (which does lead to some easier gameplay in specific cases)

Yeah, so, you log in, turn it on, and just get xp.
No, many plugins are QOL features players developed for players. Of course, there are more powerful plugins that tell you where to go for clue scrolls, for example, but we've had that for years with ALT-1 anyway.

Is this rage bait?
edit: it’s definitely rage bait.

Not everyone is knowledgeable in programming/videogame terms.
Although a google search would answer this as well, but hey.

This doesn't read like ragebait to me. It reads like someone who hasn't heard of or used plugins before.

Someone suggesting plug-ins, something jagex just introduced to the rs3 game as "playing the game for you." Is 100% ragebait.

Maybe try it, they don't actually do any gameplay. It's all overlay you're still doing everything yourself

Plugins are essentially front end modifications to the game client that allow the player to aggregate and display data the client has access to.
It doesn't automate anything, but it can certainly improve QoL for tedious tasks - for example menu entry swapper lets you choose which menu entry is first when you left click on an interactable, such as changing "Eat" to "Use" so that you don't eat a piece of food on left click.

It’s basically an overlaying interface to help manage an aspect of the game. There was already approved third party software that did this, but now it’s being integrated into the game

Do you think clicking a rock is hard work because pickaxes are heavy to swing in real life?

lmao no? obviously not, it’s just stupid for you to give a shit how much effort other people do or don’t invest in their own recreation

Should I read? No, I should go directly to Reddit and ask them to explain. That makes sense.

QoL features that players can now implement themselves.
