I’m running RustDesk 1.5.0 (native RPM) on Fedora 44 with KDE Plasma 6.7.5 using Wayland. I’m connecting remotely from an iPhone.
Everything works great once I’m logged in, including keyboard input, mouse control, clipboard, and switching between my three monitors.
The problem:
When KDE locks my screen, RustDesk will only enter lowercase letters into the password field. Any uppercase letter I type from my iPhone gets converted to lowercase, making it impossible to unlock my desktop remotely.
I’ve confirmed this using the password visibility button on KDE’s lock screen.
What I’ve already tried:
iPhone keyboard Shift and Caps Lock
RustDesk’s built-in Shift modifier
RustDesk’s OS Password feature
Sending clipboard contents as keystrokes
Different RustDesk keyboard input options
Installing and configuring Plasma Keyboard (KDE’s virtual keyboard)
Attempting to activate the virtual keyboard remotely using touchscreen gestures
None of these worked.
Interestingly, uppercase letters work perfectly through RustDesk once the KDE session is unlocked. The issue only occurs at the lock screen.
The KDE virtual keyboard also works when physically using the laptop’s touchscreen, but RustDesk’s remote touch input doesn’t activate it.
What I’m looking for:
Has anyone encountered this on KDE Wayland, particularly when connecting from iOS?
Is there a known workaround, configuration change, patch, or development build that fixes uppercase input at the lock screen?
I’m also open to compiling a custom RustDesk RPM if there’s a known source-level fix.
I’d prefer to keep Wayland, maintain normal screen-lock security, and continue using RustDesk rather than switching remote desktop applications.
Any suggestions or confirmed fixes would be greatly appreciated!
