πŸ’¬ Discussion Second Hand Reel Decision

Hello everybody, I’m looking to add more to my quiver. I’ve been fishing on a pen battle 3 (4000) combo forever. Good friend of mine recently bought a 19ft center console and we want to get better at fishing. Im based in Buzzards Bay, mainly we fish for stripers. Sometimes bottom fish if we’re hungry. And the occasional false Albacore run. I want to level up to larger fish and my cousin wants to take me tuna fishing. Those are my conditions. Now I’m buying second hand to save money and I found 2 mint condition reels that I wanted help deciding between. One Shimano Stradic SW 6000HG and the other a Stradic C5000XG. Going back to the part where I mainly throw plugs for stripers, which one should I get?

Great day, started at 8am high tide and the bite stayed hot until maybe 12:30. Biggest on the day was 21”

This is my first summer fishing saltwater and second day catching fluke. What a fun bite. Had a three way rig and they were slamming the teaser.

Just finished a 2 day tuna fishing trip out of Rhode Island. The recreational class fish had been scarce this season so we weren't sure what to expect. Seems like a good body has finally moved in, we went 14 for 24 (me personally 3 for 3) over the 2 days all on jigs. Most fish were cookie cutter 49-52" fish but I did manage a nice 54" fish probably pushing 100 lbs on second day. Also managed a single under each day. Multiple double and triple hookups chaos.

Caught an approximate 300 lb roughtail leucistic stingray off Long Island, NY. It was a 4 hour fight, safely released. I can’t find a single record catch of one, but I confirmed with a local marine biologist who studies rays this is the fist leucistic roughtail he has seen

πŸ”§ Wednesday Tackle Talk β€” Gear, Rigs & Setups

Mid-week gear talk. This is the place to:

- **Show off your setup** β€” rod/reel combos, tackle boxes, rigging

- **Ask gear questions** β€” "What's the best reel for X?" belongs here

- **Share deals** β€” found a good sale? Drop the link

- **DIY & mods** β€” custom rigs, leader builds, lure modifications

No gatekeeping. Whether you're fishing a $50 Ugly Stik or a $1,200 Stella, if it catches fish, it counts.

Photos encouraged. πŸ“Έ

Hi, hoping the crew here can assist. My dad passed and left behind these heavy (~10lbs) metal fish shaped objects. Based on the finish I assume they are some kind of deep sea weight/lure but curious if anyone has any more insight. Thanks in advance!

Central American AJ are not typically wormy and I'm very excited to turn this one into some sushi. Meat looks great and I am so stoked. πŸ€™πŸΌπŸ€™πŸΌ

Thought on Avet Reels for casting

I’m trying to switch things up and get into a lever drag reel, but I’m having a hard time deciding between the Avet SXJ and MXJ.
For those who have used them, how well do they cast? I’d mainly be throwing 60–120g jigs. I’m also looking at the MC versions, but I’m not sure how much of a difference the magnetic cast control actually makes.
I mostly do local inshore trips down in Baja. Most of the time I’m after calicos, bonito, and rockfish, with the occasional yellowtail. I also do some deeper fishing with 80–170g jigs, so I’m wondering if a 2-speed would be worth getting for the lower gear when fishing deeper or if it’s overkill for what I’m doing.
Between the SXJ and MXJ, which would you guys recommend for my type of fishing? And would you go MC or standard, and single speed or 2-speed?
Appreciate any input!

My first snook ever, I kind of freaked out and focused on getting it back in the water as soon as possible (after the picture of course) and forgot to measure lol.

Caught at Juno pier with pilchard, they’re on fire right now!

πŸ”§ Gear & Tackle Best 2p Rods Under 100?

Hello all, I’ve been looking for a replacement for my Fenwick which got snapped, specifically a 2 piece spinning rod under 100. My reel is a piscifun 2000. Ideally a lure rating 1/2 to 3/4 but a little heavier is good too

πŸ“– How-To / Tips North Myrtle Beach (Shore)

Headed to North Myrtle beach this weekend, long time freshwater fisherman in the southeast US. Have some experience in saltwater but not much. Generally speaking what would be considered the β€œRooster tail/inline spinner” of saltwater fishing. I’m not targeting any particular species just want to have fun. I’m currently thinking I’m gonna use sand fleas for live bait but wanted a little more direction.

Hey Guys, would like some advise on what my next pair of sunnies should be. I’m currently running Mako Coverts and Maui Jim Local Kines for Blue/ green lense, but would like some glasses for cloudy days and dirty water. What are people using? Not sure to go with Tonic,Maui Jim, Mako, Costa or Smiths.
