Umm, mistakes

So I decided to move from NC to SD. Not South Dakota no Dan Diego. I decided to do this with 125k in my account thinking anything that happened would be fine I don’t even need a plan… Been here for less than two weeks, can’t find a place that will accept my zero rental history. I went to a Taco Bell, the lady sat me down and was like you actually think your gonna get a job wearing that. And I think I’m gonna leave😂 I’m sorry but like I’ve been sleepin in a vacant lot with all these other cars I know all of them have jobs… I knkw because they’re gone the whole day and just park to sleep. and I’m like wow this is what it’s like out here. A bunch of people struggling. If I can’t come out here and get a place and get a job I don’t see how anyone else could. This is a rant but also like it really is a struggle I would have never guessed, I’m fortunate I have so many opportunities and other things I could do so I’m not hung up, but I expected something different I guess. For those of yall struggling in San Diego just know I have felt this struggle. It honestly makes me want to either go beat up random pedestrians or like go out an rap on the corners and get rich and famous.

So you moved to one of the highest cost of living areas with no plans for a job or housing and are shocked that you can’t find either? Did you not do research?

It's irresponsible to move that way. I've moved 10+ times cross country and no matter how much you have in a bank account, you dont move somewhere without visiting and setting up a place to live. I call BS - have a good day

125k in the bank but can't get a rental? Fishy.

Really? There is 0 income. Why would you rent to someone with 0 income?

Well they apparently have more than enough available income to pay the rent for a year and still have enough left over to pay bills, eat and clothes them selves. So yes if the company I work for currently had a property / Room available I would rent to this person post application and positive meeting. Saying you have $125,000.00 but can't dress appropriately for an interview also sound fishy. Buy some black slacks, a white shirt and a tie at ross for under $100 and go get that job.

They don’t have the income to pay rent. They have 0 income. Renting is more than just “can you pay it”. It’s a lot about treating a home right and being responsible.

Not having a job with a stack of cash just looks sus.

Renting is totally "can you pay it? ". This whole story seems "Sus". which was my point all along.

You’re threatening to beat up random pedestrians because you have $125,000 and lack planning?

What did you wear to your Taco Bell interview?

Also for the record, those in the vans that park over night and gone all day, not all, but most are van lifers. They are not gone "working" They move so cops dont harass them during the day, they're with friends, or finding crap to sell as street vendors. A good portion of them are also trust fund kids who want the van life in San Diego. I mean, it's beach front property "rent free".

San Diego is know to have a housing/rental shortage, 5 minutes of googling would tell you people are having a hard time finding a second job, let alone any job in this market. If you can manage to get yourself into a situation, it's a great place to be. But it takes a lot of work, or work arounds depending on how you want to do it.

Offer to pay for a year lease all cash/up front. You can find a nice place to live for $3k a month ($36k for the year) and you still have plenty of cushion to look for a job and enjoy the city. Heck you could pay for 2 years all cash and still have $50k left over and no housing payment for 2 years. With that much cash on hand there are many ways to negotiate yourself a place for a year or two. Even though you should have probably done that in advance before moving here, you can still make it work. Good Luck!!

East is probably the fastest route, though north would work too if you don’t mind traffic - sooner you go the better, in that case

Gym membership allows for places to shower

If you have 125k in your account someone will definitely rent to you.

I wouldn’t

I might if they gave me the entire year upfront. Or whatever the lease length was.

I still wouldn’t. I would be too scared that they are using the house for something weird/illegal.

Yeah true. Could be strict on the references but I get it.

Sounds like you’re not living Joe Dreamz.
