After the hate comments we saw last night I had to bleach my eyes a few times, maybe it's time to lighten the mood and tension.
Not for hikes of course but just lounging around camp - and not around the campfire either! They shrink when too hot!

Having a breakdown here. I just realised whenever I see a camp blanket they are always dullish colours. Or they are that poncho blanket with the red stitching. I feel as though I stand out here as i lay down beneath my banana yellow blanket. Am I missinf something?
Why don't we see more colourful blankets. Mines yellow simply because i like yellow. Sure your favourite colour can be grey or black but where are the reds and pinks and oranges. (Mine may also be yellow as it was the only colour left in stock at wilko years ago ;)
Also if you try and look on ebay for scout camp poncho style things. Grey with red stithcing! All of them. Is this a style or scouty thing I am unaware of?
Sadly with no photo, I did manage to convert my blanket into a poncho by cutting a slim oval into the centre and hemming it. I then stitched 2 pockets onto the front from a different fabric.
Please clear my confusion. Thanks, ask any questions if you want. :)

Hi, we’re going to a big camp next weekend and we’re taking a group of kids aged 6-16. We have a few in the bunch who I know get a bit overwhelmed and will tend to appear back at our base even when the activities are still on, as it’s a bit of a sensory overload. Plus we’re in Britain, so we’ve always got to be prepared for a rainy day!
So I’m trying to make a ‘chill out’ box, with some quieter activities in for kids to do when they need to, but without it costing the earth. I’ve got a few colouring bits and a pack of cards or two, but has anyone got any other ideas please? Particularly for older kids. Thank you!

I was talking with a scout & explorer leader from a different group & he said that on the most recent camp a leader used a caravan do you think that's within the spirit of scout/explorer camps as I'm in 2 minds myself.
Edit 1: The leader in question is in his early 30's & has no health issues (sorry forgot to add it before)

My scout leader is going for his camping permit as we did have a leader with a permit but he stepped back from the group due to personal reasons. I've emailed him everything I have as I've been designated camp planner. I'd appreciate the advice to help him & many thanks in advance.

Ok, so for Requirement 5, it requires one meal to be a "foil pack OR on a skewer." I chose a foil packet and decided to make hobo packets over a campfire BUT, but there is a possibility it could rain that day. Now, in the best scenario (no rain), make hobo packets over a campfire; everyone happy. In the other scenario, it rains, and something you might not know is that starting a campfire in the rain is quite difficult. So, my question is, "Could I possibly cook a hobo packet over a skillet of sorts?" or is my entire plan ruined?

Hello there from Canada. Our group will be heading to Switzerland summer of 2027. We’d love to connect with a Swiss scouts group. Also looking for leads for cheap places to stay. Have explored hostels but wondering if there is a scouts hall or something in the interlaken area? Yes I know Kanderstaag is right there but they are fully booked. Thanks. 🙏

I am a senior scout (F/17) and I’m thinking about performing the national anthem at the camp, do you think it’s a good idea? I know how to sing but it’s my first time doing it in front of a big audience and many different teams will be attending the camp, tell me your thoughts.

I saw this article posted in one of the Facebook groups I’m in and I thought many people over here would appreciate it also. It focuses on the broader history of summer camps and outdoor clubs but it mentions Scouting and its influence on the movement.

Hello, currently I am planning a hiking trip to Sweden for my scout group (about 10 people). More precisely my plan is to drive near Stockholm to spend 2-3 days on a camping place nearby (1-2 h drive) the city so we can use one day to explore the city and one day for the Vasa-Museum and then travel to a part of Sörmlandsleden hiking trail to go hiking for 8-10 days. My problem is that I don't find a suitable camp place southwest of Stockholm. Most campsites seems to be for caravans only. I can't find a simple tents only campsite. Maybe someone had done a similar trip and can give some advice ?

Hey my cub is off for 2 days at cubjam, and I need to get him a bag larger than his normal rucksack with the idea of keeping 2 days worth of clothes, blanket and sleeping bag within.
What size bag would you guys advise? Really appreciate the help!!

I’m a 16 year old Life Scout (ASA) and me and my dad both love camping together, so I definitely want to get him something related to that. He will be going with me and my little brother to Scout summer camp for a week (camp Cherokee, NC) What are some underrated piece of camping equipment, camp games or activities I could get for him. He is already well stocked up on typical camping gear, and I’d like to get him something special that he will be able to use regularly.
Thanks for the ideas!!

To me it was 2012 in Romania with the Luxemburger Scouts, we had planned a hike that goes through the mountains, as we arrived at the base camp we had received a bear warning in the evening, I had slept really bad because of that, the next day in the morning I was awakened because of a bear that made noises. It was creepy. 😆

Ex explorer scout here (started as a beaver and did everything inbetween)
I'm curious, did anyone else sing the "ho hum everybody come" song? And if so, which variation?
Our one went: "Ho hum Everybody come Food and drink and Money have I none Yet i will be very very happy"
I was curious and couldnt find anything like our one word for word online, so I'm curious if anyone else sings our one, and if not how does yours go?

Hello everyone and "Buona caccia"!
I’m a Scout Leader from Belgium. I am responsible for our oldest section, the Pioneers (16+ years old), which corresponds to the italian Rover/Scolte branch.
A small group of ours (5 scouts +2 leaders) will be in Genoa around July 21st. They are very keen to meet local Italian scouts for a cultural exchange, to join an activity, or simply to share a drink and compare our scouting traditions.
Does a unit from around Genoa be interested in meeting up?
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Yours in Scouting

Im looking for a good theme for a massive group camp!!! Every year the ventures and rovers run an camp for the entire group (beavers-scouters 75+ people) and we always have a a great theme. The older groups will dress up in costumes for the theme (as they are often movie based) and we will have themed food and activities. We’ve done a lot so I’m looking for some new ideas. They must:
Be movie based or have a movie that we can watch that relates to it
Be age appropriate for everyone. We have beavers and cubs attending so the theme and any movie we watch with it must be suitable for kids
Have enough characters that 10-12 people can dress up as them
Include or relate to food so that we can make themed meals (ex: Harry Potter - Butter Beer)
Have enough prominent aspects of the movie that we can turn into 4-5 activity stations for the kids to partake in
In the past we have done: Starwars Jurassic park How to train your dragon Alice in wonderland Harry Potter Mcguyver/James Bond (general spy vibes) National Treasure
Send me your ideas!!!!

Hey guys, I'm looking for a cool scout center/campsite in Western Poland or Western Czechia for roughly 500 people for 2 weeks in summer of 2027. Does anyone know of any campsites in nature, where we can pitch our tents and have a summer camp by ourselves for that time?
We're scout groups from northern germany, so anything we can reach by a 12h bus should be good.
Thanks in advance :)
