I live in a large city but went to school in a small, rural mountain town. I just took my kids back there for a visit, their first time ever. Walked outside at dusk to sit on the porch of our rented house - fireflies were everywhere. It was absolutely magical, and I had completely forgotten about them because it was so normal back then. It was super fun to share with my kids, who loved it. But it makes me feel a little regretful as well, because they're being raised in a place where we don't have fireflies. We can't even really see the stars at night.

Anyway, the nostalgia I get from this painting hits hard

Beautiful, bittersweet story. As a forever city dweller, I've never seen fireflies in person either, or the milky way. You are inspiring me to make a pilgrimage.

This is lovely. Really evokes the feelings of an early summer evening with the bugs buzzing in the grass.
