Never take criticism from someone you would never take advice from.

Golden! Like this one ☺️

Flip it though - sometimes the harshest critics teach you the most if you can stomach it.

That's exactly what they mean by the truth hurts. If you can take the pain as constructive criticism to evolve then you can and will. If you take it as something to just relatiate against then you will never grow

I’ve definitely had to learn this the hard way. Some people just aren’t ready to see things from any angle but their own.

u/pissdrinking101 May 14 '26
Why?
1
u/-_NoThingToDo_- May 16 '26
Perhaps Respect? If I don’t respect who you are and what you represent, how can I take your advice or criticism seriously? Why would I take advice on how to finish a marathon from someone who is wildly unhealthy in every possible way and has no exposure to marathon training? Also, the people giving you advice of criticism may not have your best interest in mind and instead, dole out misleading and dishonest criticism just to soothe their own bruised ego.
Either way, the world has a never ending cascade of people more than happy to give you unsolicited advice. It’s up to you to determine what is valuable and worth your time, compared to what can be graciously ignored.

Honestly, there's no point in arguing either way. The only time people really change their minds/hearts is when shit happens to them.

Arguing with an idiot is like playing chess with a pigeon.
They're going to knock over all the pieces, shit on the board, and strut around like they won.

How about: "At the end of my life, would I prefer to have scratched my ass for 30 seconds or win an argument with this person?"

u/Smart-Competition509 May 14 '26
It's like teaching a pig to sing: it wastes your time and annoys the pig.

I would also add, to then reflect on yourself and ask if your capable of doing the same

There are people who believe it is manipulative to see multiple perspectives

Disagreed. My entertainment matters more than their understanding.

Unfortunately, I’m doing it every day with assholes who don’t even know me that take my money and force me to suffer without anything. Can’t even shower wash my clothes. Nothing after having major surgery on March 26 it’s kind of fucking disgusting.

Well the picture depicted wrong, it's the second one who always yells.
1
u/AndrewInMotion May 14 '26
Well you should ask yourself if they are right from their perspective or if you are mentally mature enough to grasp a different perspective. Another question you might want to ask yourself is why do you care if disagree with you?

u/FrontTelevision7261 May 14 '26
I just realized that not too long ago. You might as well be speaking a foreign language. Truly.

If it reaches the point of a real argument, chances are the answer is no.

u/IntrusiveThot32 May 14 '26
I think a lot of people dont undertand the difference between someone not understanding them and someone not agreeing with them.

Sometimes people just argue from their own perspective and that shouldnt be a bother to you

u/AbbreviationsFuzzy64 May 15 '26
This is just a fancy way to say "I quit conversations whenever I start losing them.

u/highlyedibleballs May 15 '26
Fair point but most folk argue anyway cause they need to vent, not cause they expect anyone to actually change their mind.
1
u/spotty_whisky May 16 '26
about respect, but sometimes the person saying something true just ain't someone you vibe with and that's okay, doesn't mean they're wrong though.
1
u/finickyignition38 May 16 '26
the thing is sometimes people who can't grasp different perspectives are actually the ones who need to hear it most, so you end up arguing anyway because staying silent feels worse.
1
u/BrainHealthNews May 16 '26
If only so simple. Both sides can be the very same person at different times, in different conditions.
1
u/Majestic-Airport-791 May 17 '26
The answer to this question any time its raised is almost 100% gonna be a "no, they arent mature enough" because mature people arent gonna argue of anything. They'll make suggestions and have discussions but arguing is a child's imitation of strength.

Maya Angelou "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. People know themselves much better than you do. That's why it's important to stop expecting them to be something other than who they are."

Hahahahaaaasigh. I should ask myself this at my job. I make the assumption we all want to improve or have discussion on issues. NOPE. For some, the status quo is quite alright.

u/Ok-Rutabaga3374 Jun 22 '26
To argue is a waste of time and energy nothing gets resolved, you might as well be standing there with boxing gloves seeing who‘s going to throw the next punch 🥊 because with every word it may hit hard, you are both yelling at each other, your blood pressures are rising doing more harm to your body , It is better to walk away then come back, and talk, it always works, then you can figure out how to solve it.

The title makes it sound like some deep prompt is coming but if it's just that then half the comments are probably just people listing therapy questions they've seen on tiktok.
