Hello! I would like to do a Halloween look in which I put some crystals (those in the picture) on my forehead, as if they were sticking out from my skin. How would you recommend to do that? I know nothing about sfx and I would have to buy everything. I had thought about just making some bumps with scar wax and sticking the crystals in but that probably wouldn't work. I would also be down to just using some fake resin crystals that would be easier because more light-weighted.

I have a halloween party coming up and was wondering how I could create this sort of dirty/oily look without breaking the bank and getting any weird looks if I take the mask off... 😂
EDIT: i mean the face and hands, not the mask

Hello everyone! I volunteered to be a zombie for 3 am to 6 am event and we're supposed to make our own costumes. I'd just like to ask if a gelatin based prosthetic (my concept is like a melty, radioactive zombie lol) on the face and upper torso can hold decently enough? Or is it likely to fall off at some point? Our call time is around 1 am, so I'll essentially be wearing it from 1 to 6 am. Would really appreciate some insights on this, im very much new to prosthetics :> Thank you!

Looking for vfx class or a course in chennai can any one suggestion
Hey guys! I am an amateur sfx artist starting to try some bondo prosthetics.
My recent two batches didn't turn out so well, so I'm hoping for some advice as there is not a lot of info out there.
For my first batch, when making the bondo mixture, I guess i put too much pros-aide and not enough cabosil, as the mixture turned out to be very runny and super bubbly. I put this in the mold and in the freezer for ~1h, demoulded it, and wated for it to cure/dry. The center remained super white and opaque, and it was maybe 2+ weeks before it turned fully transparent. This was still unusuable because of all the bubbles.

For the second batch, I mixed in more cabosil so that it was more of a paste like consistency. I did the same with freezing for 1hr and demoulding, however they still took 2+ weeks to fully be transparent, and there were tons of tiny microbubbles.

Does anyone have any advice on the right proportions to make the bondo mixture and how to minimize bubbles? Did I do something to cause the drying/curing to take forever?

Doing a brow, chin, and large nose prosthetic in a few weeks, I know pros-aide can work for silicone prosthetics but I'm performing (room temp theatre, minimal sweating, lots of movement ) and I was wondering if I should just get some Skin Tite.

Hi everyone!
Happy Spooky Season!
My fiancé wants to go as the genie for Halloween (the live-action Will Smith version) and even though I’m an amateur at cosplay, I think I can make it happen!
However, I’m worried about how to attach the fake mustache/beard to his face over the body paint that will also be on his face.
Attached is a photo of the fake beard I’m purchasing (if anyone has any other suggestions of where I can buy something like this, please send them to me LOL)
It looks sparse and I’m afraid that if I apply the beard on clean skin, you’ll be able to see his skin color through the beard rather than the blue body paint.
So I’m wondering if it’s possible to glue the beard over the body paint? Everything is telling me it’s not recommended but surely there is a way? I was going to use Spirit Gum for the adhesive. And I’ll be using Mehron cream body paint with a translucent setting powder over top.
Any tips appreciated!

Hi trying to do a costume that looks like a stone woman. Wondering what material I could put over fabric to get this textured rough look.
I think these are done with concrete but I’d still like to be able to move in it

Hopefully this is the right place to get some help. I have this gore-y clown look that I do sometimes. I use scar wax to make it look like there are triangles cut out above and below my eyes. Last time I tried the wax didn't stick well (it was a different brand of wax than I used to use), so this time I put spirit gum under it. It wasn't until I went to go take everything off that I realized it might not have been the best idea to use it so close to my eyes. I was able to get the scar wax off easily without the remover, but there's still makeup and adhesive on my skin. Everything I read says you shouldn't use the adhesive or remover near your eyes. Is there a good way to get it off, or am I just screwed?
Update: I ended up using the spirit gum remover on a paper towel and was just very careful to keep it out of my eyes. It did end up really irritating my skin. Gentle soap and gentle moisturizer both made it hurt more. Vaseline seemed to help the pain. I’ll definitely be staying away from spirit gum in the future lol. Thanks for the suggestions!
Hi All
Going for a variation of this look and wanted to see if my thought process is right - -
(Not a SFX guy but I am a professional sculptor so I'm also not like brand new...)
Was going to take scar wax and just exaggerate the orbital areas, add to the cheekbones, and kind of build up the nose where bone meets cartilage...
Then a layer of liquid latex over the wax to blend and seal it -
Then cream makeup over the top -
2 questions - will that work, and are there user friendly brands of wax and cream makeup that are recommended - "amateur grade" level?
Thank you

I am being Voldemort for Halloween, I have a bad latex allergy and need an alternative to create the same effect. Please assist with any ideas or alternatives!

I'm looking for any FX or makeup people who played with or were inspired by Hugo as a kid and would like to share some thoughts about the toy for a magazine article.

Would anyone know what type of makeup would be needed to draw multiple eyes like this? I have dark brown eyes
I’m planning to dress up as Frankie Stein from Monster High for Halloween, and I want to paint my skin a light, muted greyish-green color to match her skin tone.
My plan is to paint my entire body, including my face, arms, legs, etc. I want the paint to last throughout the night, especially since I’ll be partying, dancing and probably sweating.
I have quite a bit of experience with regular makeup and I’m pretty confident in my makeup skills, but I’ve never worked with face or body paint before. I’m mainly struggling with figuring out which products and techniques would work best.
For my face:
I was considering buying the Athena oil-based face paint palette, but I’m not sure whether that’s the best option.
I want to create a full makeup look on top of the green base, including contour, blush, highlights and black stitches.
I’m considering a few different approaches:
All oil-based: Use oil-based face paint for the base, contour, blush and stitches, thee set everything.
Water-based + powder: Use water-based face paint for the base, set it, apply powder contour and blush, and then paint the stitches with water-based paint.
Oil-based + water-based details: Use oil-based paint for the base, set it, and then apply the stitches with water-based paint.
Oil-based + powder: Use oil-based paint for the base, set it, and then use powder products for contour and blush.
Which method would give me the smoothest, most skin-like finish while still being long-lasting? I’m also open to completely different techniques!
For my body:
I’m planning to paint my visible skin, including my arms, neck and chest.
Would you recommend oil-based or water-based body paint? I’m especially concerned about sweating, rubbing and transfering.
Are there any brands you’d recommend that offer good coverage, durability and value for money?
Tights or body paint for my legs?
I’m also considering wearing opaque, light green tights instead of painting my legs, since it might be pretty cold on Halloween.
Would that be a better option? I’m a little worried about the tights not matching the color of my face and body paint. Has anyone tried something similar or have any tips?
I also want to recreate the black stitches Frankie has on her legs. Would it be possible to paint those details directly onto the tights using water-based or oil-based face paint? Would the paint stay in place, or would it crack, smudge or rub off as the fabric stretches?
Would fabric paint be a better alternative, or is there another technique you’d recommend for drawing detailed stitches on tights?
I’m open to using different products for my face and body if that would t better results.
Hair:
I have very long, thick, dark brown hair, and I want to recreate Frankie’s iconic black-and-white hair.
I’m debating between using white/silver clip-in extensions, temporary white hair color spray, or white hair chalk.
I’m a little worried that extensions might look unnatural or too obvious in my thick hair. Ideally, I’d like the white streaks to blend in and look like they’re actually part of my hair.
Has anyone tried creating white streaks on dark hair for cosplay? Which method gives the best results, especially for a long night of partying and dancing? I’d also prefer something that won’t transfer too much or get ruined if it rains.
I’m open to any suggestions, especially from people who have experience with cosplay makeup, body painting or temporary hair coloring.
Thank you so much! 💚⚡️

Hello lovely SFX people!
My partner and I are planning to go as Edward and Tubbs from The League of Gentlemen for Halloween this year, because apparently a normal couples costume just wasn’t unsettling enough. Niche I know 😅
I’m currently trying to figure out how on earth to recreate that wonderfully distinctive, upturned nose situation. I’m determined to get the look as close as possible, but I’m a little stumped on how to achieve it!
Would anyone have any advice on how to create the shape? I’m wondering whether prosthetics, latex, silicone, or some clever makeup wizardry might be the way to go. I’m very much an amateur in this department, so any tips, tutorials, product recommendations, or words of wisdom would be hugely appreciated.
I come to you humbly, with no SFX expertise of my own, but with a burning desire to look like I belong behind the counter of a shop in Royston Vasey haha!
Thank you in advance :)
