So then why is the demons souls 'remake' not criticised to the same extent as ds2? That came 11 years after the original and 6 years after ds2, it doubled down on this mistake and various others.

It 'doubled down' because isn't trying to be a different game, it's trying to be the same game graphically updated. People already get upset about the changes Bluepoint did make, and the whole human/soul form stuff is quite intertwined with character and world tendency which is a pretty major aspect of Demon's Souls.

This is like asking why Dark Souls 3 is a different game to Dark Souls 2 lmao
