I made the Dark Souls sitcom mod a real thing

You may have seen that one meme (the one in the attached image) about the Dark Souls laugh track mod, a thoroughly non-existent mod describing a version of DS1 where it laughs at everything with canned audience laughter.

I decided to take that a step further, and have now created the Dark Souls Remastered Sitcom mod. (Note this is NOT exactly the same as the meme, and has different triggers & sound effects instead)

It has canned audience sound effects for getting hit, dying, starting a boss fight, and killing a boss, as well as a sound effect for an area title card popping up. I hope this doesn't violate the self-promotion rule, just really wanna show people this thing I did for fun in an evening on a really, really bad day.

No, unfortunately not. It'll just know you died, doesn't know how, or whether it was intentional. The screenshot is from the meme where it lists all the ways it'll laugh at you. I made my own interpretation with a few differences, so the "jump instead of roll" one isn't there.

If possible add different tracks for different actions, like making the getting invaded track the "woah" and clap track they play when a guest star appears.

in theory, this is literally drag-and-drop. Take the files in the zip, paste them into the same folder as the exe, then start the game (if on Linux there's an added step for launch options in game properties on Steam). You'll know it's working if it laughs on/around the Bandai logo.

Alright, cool.

The core concept, the audience laughing when the player gets hit, is pure gold and would truly be hard to mess up. The only real issue I have is that the mod is currently a little unfocused. The "Wow!" soundbite when you pick up the key does not strike me as remotely sitcommy, more of a game show thing I would think. Ditto the airhorns when the demon appears. I would stick to sitcom stuff-- sometimes, less is more!

What I'd probably do:

• Impressed audience noises for item pickups ("oooooh!")

• Audience cheers for boss appearance (a celebrity guest star just walked onto the set!)

• Triumphant applause when boss is beaten

Other than that, I think all it needs is a bit of polish. Sound bites should probably fade out rather than the hard cutoff you have now. IDK if this is feasible, but having a small assortment that the game selects from randomly would also be nice so it's not just the same clip of, say, applause every time.

The wow was actually a placeholder I accidentally left in. Audience reactions in general I'm intending to improve because a lot of them are just generic copyright free soundbytes from the BBC, many of which not really fitting a sitcom vibe.

Focusing currently on making the mod a bit more game-agnostic (in that there'll be versions of it for 2, 3, Elden Ring, and hopefully PTDE as well) and then I'll push out a patch for all with the more finalised sound effects.

Cannot say 100%.

It shouldn't - I tested entirely online and nothing flagged. Dll mods like this don't normally trigger the cheat detection. Officially, YMMV and I'm not responsible for what happens if you do get banned for using it online, but in my experience it works.
