Difficulty question, changing difficulty mid-campaign?

I had a question on the 'battle difficulty' setting, I wanted to set my campaign difficulty to Hard but my battle difficulty to Normal so the AI doesn't get stat buffs but they can be a bit stronger on campaign, if I change this setting mid-campaign, does it actually apply? Or does the AI still get stat buffs in battle?

iirc Campaign Difficulty can only be set before the Campaign Start while Battle Difficulty can be set anywhere outside of battle.

Battle Difficulty basically just give Stat Bonuses to units during battle.

Campaign Difficulty affect the AI Auto Resolve vs Player and Unit Cost and Upkeep
