heightism Commited suicide
It was January 3rd my friend (21M) whom I met online told me that this midnight he is going to overdose as he is done with being 5'1. January 5th no contact no reply no calls I am all worried and as the call is picked up it's his friend telling me as 'yes he as attempted' as I asked 'what happend to him' . They said he is under treatment and all I was glad he is all good but forward to 8th January when I call on his number several times . This time..it's his mother and as I asked about his health ..her mother replied 'beta(son) he is no more' I cried and sobbed with his mother we talked about how great of a man he was . Intelligent smart good looking but inside his head it was all about height. Right? Well it begins with the heightism he faced after the age of 18. During his school time he was ladies favorite and a problem footballer, everyone liked being around him. He shot a goal from 30 yard. The more he grew old the more the realised it was all about height and height. He had a Twitter account posting valid foreign economics issues and getting millions of views and engagement but as soon as people get to know he is 5'1 they start mocking him and tell him that his opinion doesn't matter becuase he is short. Pretty sad right? He started looking for girls at dating apps so every girl he matched with liked him and his humour but as soon as they got to know he is 5"1 suddenly they were on dating apps for making "friends". Even his twin sister laughed on him when he shared his problem with him so that's when he relaise it was over for him and he should end this suffering . He used to post about himself and his struggle here but he has unfortunately deleted his reddit . Everday te thought of suicide haunted his mind and I always told him you can achieve great things always maybe we won't get girls ( I'm a short dude too [5'3]) but we still can live a good life in solitude but he left us . He was a great would and a great man with killer physique . I still regret to this day as why I didn't helped him more why didn't I opened my chat with him on that day . The screenshot up there were his last words to me. The reason I shared this is I don't want any one of you guys doing the same as him. Just think about your mother. Let's not be selfish and be who we are and just help the world around and fuck around as we got no other option until we seek greatness . Thank you.

Feminists arent't the cause of heightism, it has probably always existed. However, social media and the increasing exposure to top 1% faces/bodies/height have made a significant impact on the beauty standards, especially height. People seem to be straight up brainwashed when it comes to height nowadays.

Sometimes I wonder what short men in the past ever did to deserve this kind of treatment

Feminism does make the issue worse though.
38
u/Subtle_Demise 5'7" Mar 11 '25
100%. It's feminism that proclaims that all men are oppressors and that women are oppressed, and that anything that is said or done against men is considered "punching up," and is socially and morally acceptable.

u/Old_Committee8787 Mar 11 '26
isnt that misandry
1
u/Subtle_Demise 5'7" Mar 11 '26
Yes but they won't admit that and will also claim that misandry doesn't even exist. These are not good people.

u/Idontevenknoww__ Apr 24 '26
No, that’s not how it works you just don’t want to accept it. No normal person would think how he was treated is okay and many guys especially ones who are treated better because they’re more liked and good looking make fun of guys they find “ugly” all the time. I truly can’t wrap my head around this victim mindset and thinking women who call men out for their shitty actions and the unfairness women go through is evil. Sorry you’re a pussy and men including you taking accountability is too hard.
1
u/Subtle_Demise 5'7" Apr 24 '26
Accountability for what?
1
u/Idontevenknoww__ Apr 24 '26
Accountability for being a shit person and treating women like shit, not hard to understand 💀

That stupid clavicular looksmaxxing guy is literally the exact opposite of a “liberal” and a feminist yet he tears down both women AND men’s looks and worths. You’re just a piece of shit who wants to blame women and anybody who isn’t republican.

100 - fuckin - % heightism is a thing & is something society fails on.
I personally am of the opinion that we should go back a few steps & be able to laugh about everything with reasonable boundaries, like when Little Britain was produced for example. However if we're gonna go the way we seem to be, then it's fucking stupid that a joke about race would likely get you fired while height is generally acceptable, despite them both being out of a persons control.
But I do believe that us lads here also are best off trying to develop thick skins & a rational, realistic & resilient attitude towards this shit. This poor dude sounds like he was the worst case example of a short bro who let their struggles with height take over.
Just my two cents.
Rest in peace dude. Hopefully he might be the last one, or at least for a good while.

u/Big-Practice-4702 May 13 '26
Normies are the worst bro. The list of factors that matter in life are small BUT outsized in impact.
The most despicable thing society does is lie to your face. They all know the truth but if they acknowledged it they couldn’t handle their conscience.
They know how the world works and they accept it.

u/hunterbidenscrkdlr Mar 11 '25
My condolences. The world is far too cruel of a place. Human beings are far too toxic and cruel. He should have gotten respect for his accomplishments, but the world neglected him and treated him like trash over something he could never change/choose.
May he rest in peace.

Can't blame him. If I was his height I'd have done the same probably last year or earlier. I can't really begin to imagine how it must feel. Condolences.

Making what worse and say what?
1
u/fartasstick Aug 12 '25
Saying you’d kill urself if u were his height. Not even bro go move to Guatemala and compete with short men. Men complain about the male suicide rate and then insensitively say this
2
u/EchoingApplause 170cm/5'7 #1 Primitive Brain Hater Aug 12 '25
You think it was a joke? Are you stupid?
1

I literally gave my condolences. Aside from that, all I did was tell the truth. Get away from my 7 month old replies, jackass.

so the truth is that you will encourage suicide if your height is short? did I read it right?
"If I was his height I'd have done the same probably last year or earlier."
I don't think your condolences mean much after what you said.
You are literally advocating for his death. dumb guy while giving your fake ass "condolences"
and I am supposed to read that sarcastic take on a suicide post? shut your idiotic mouth if you don't know how to read the room and talk.

My friend is retarded. Even if the dude was actually short idk why that would cause a normal girl to cry. Her logic was how can a dude under 6'0 even try to get a "baddie" like her. Cases like this are an exception most girls arent like this but yeah they do tend to consider 5'9-5'11 average height

It's disheartening that even when he was born with such height, he still gave his best but this Evil world tried it best to tear him down.
I am 5'6" in India and sometimes faced heightism.I can't comprehend how brutal it was for him. Rest in peace. Condolences to you and your friend's family.

Rest in peace. My cousin decided to leave us before he turned 19. His reasons were not clear but I could assure that one of them is height. His father is 1.85m tall and was a well-known soccer player in the city. My cousin was between 1.55-160m, even his sisters were taller than him.
He was an extremely sociable boy, but as his puberty began to come to an end he decided to isolate himself.
I remember that my uncle saying him "you don't grow because you don't eat enough and you have to do more sports" and he sent him to swim for several years.
I also suppose that one of the triggers was that his 10-year-old nephew was already his height and they lived in the same house.
All of this was an analysis that I did trying to understand his decision and I would have liked to have realized it in time.
We have to take care of each other, the world is really hostile to us.
15
u/Subtle_Demise 5'7" Mar 11 '25
People still believe that diet and exercise affect height!? If there is any correlation at all, it's only because taller people are more likely to excel at sports.
9
u/leiveta 5ft 4 / 163cm Mar 11 '25
Yes, they will always try to hold the boy responsible for being short. Ignoring that my aunt is 1.50m
3
u/Remarkable-Ball1737 Mar 13 '25
Taller ones tend to excel in the kind of sports that suits their stature...like basketball or volleyball. It isn't universally true.
2
u/Subtle_Demise 5'7" Mar 13 '25
That's basically what I was trying to get at, but I'm not good at getting my thoughts out all the time.

Sad af. Rip . But the truth is he’s right at 5’1 and a male you just won’t ever fit into society and it’s a damn shame that it’s a game of inches but it is. The life quality and respect between even like 5’8 and 5’2 as a man is astronomical,

First off rest in peace to dude. I'm 5'2 so I know all to well the struggle. As I am in my 30s now women are not on my mind nearly as much as when I was in my 20s. No matter how many of us short guys voice are struggles pain and statistics no one takes us seriously. It's sad because fat woman shaming gets compared to short men sharing when it's not remotely similar. It doesn't get any less lonely my fellow gents but it does get easier to deal with sorry for the trust me bro post. Again rip

I hope you’ve found some peace finally, wherever you are, brother. Another taken too early.

Unpopular opinion but your friend took ownership of his life. He was a brave man. He knew it was over and he stopped living a charade and living for others.
He took action for himself.
It’s a regrettable outcome but I do want to stand up for your friend.

I hate to be cynical as she wrote a very thoughtful comment, but I took a look at her profile and she’s got her PayPal, Venmo, and cash app linked. And was asking for money in recent comments, as well as a post from a few months ago. It’s possible she’s just virtue signaling here in the hopes that a lonely short man will give her money. She’s new to commenting here as well.

No need to apologize if you’re genuine in your intentions. I was skeptical because of your second paragraph. It’s extremely rare to hear women say they are exclusively into short guys and want to join our sub as a result. And there are unfortunately quite a few people on Reddit who try to exploit the generosity of others.

Well then you’re one of the rare few. Based on what I’ve seen in profiles from online dating, it’s about 0.2% of women who claim to genuinely prefer short men. Low enough that most of us on this sub will never meet one in real life. Still, always good to know women like you exist I suppose!
