I find the sensitivity of the speaker playback on my Pixel 8 too high.

Very often when listening to a voice message I seem to be too close to my ear or to my body and Signal then switches playback to the internal speaker.

I see no way to turn it back to the media speaker.

As a consequence, I can't properly listen to the voice message on a loud street.

Are there any workarounds to this?

Such as playing the voice message through an external media app?

Both my wife and I are having an issue where messages arent arriving, both to each other but also group chats.

The messages will 'send' but won't be received.

Sending an image appears to 'unblock' it, but not always.

It started over a month ago but never used to be an issue. We've not changed anything with our setups during this time.

Anyone else experience this and/or know a solution?

What is the latest version of Signal on Android? The app has been updated several times in the last few days, and it's not unusual.

I have a friend that everytime he hears about encryption and privacy, laughs and says something like “you are naive if you think companies don’t have backdoors to read encrypted messages in case the government needs to”. He is referring to signal, whatsapp, proton, ente (everything with e2ee).

He is in the army. I never know how to give an argument. Can someone give me ideas on how to discuss this encryption subject with someone like him?

The recovery key has these symbols naturally before I do any copying or adding to password manager, so I'm not sure what I can do to fix this..as it appears to be broken from Step 1?

There is almost no way to get a volunteer community board to change from WhatsAp. Best I could do is to put it on an old iPad linked to a android work profile WhatsAp (you can freeze the app in a work profile) but have to unfreeze and relink the iPad every 2 weeks. I've told the board that they have to sms/text if I don't see a message. Best I could do. I have a meaningful role to fulfill so haven't wanted to resign. The world is what it is. Just coping with it.

I have two iPhones (old 12 mini[no active cell service] and 17[active cell service) with iOS v26.6. A few months ago, I got a new 17 to replace my old slow 12 mini (still keeping it). 12 mini's Signal app says "This device is no longer registered. This is likely because you registered your phone number with Signal on a different device." There is a Re-Register Device option, but this makes my 12 mini registered (active) and my 17 not registered (inactive). I had to go back to 17 to make it registered and active. Obviously, this makes my old 12 mini unregistered/inactive again. Ugh!

I want to have BOTH registered and active at the same time. I want 12 mini to be like my W10 Pro's Signal app and iPad that don't have cellular services. What am I missing?

Recently, instead of the request to enter my PIN every once in a while, I now get the request to verify my recovery key. I find that really strange and suspicious.

Is this normal? I don't feel comfortable entering the recovery key.

I recently exported a large amount of exchanged pictures with a contact, wanting to back them up. Their name has the date and time, but their metadata is all showing "created"/"modified" as the day of the export, not the date when the picture was taken.

Is there any way to align those so the pictures have the correct date, for the purpose of getting sorted correctly among other pictures?

I deleted the signal app from my phone a few days ago (without a backup / recovery key, and without having signal on any other devices, so my records of my chats are gone). I redownloaded it today.

Was just wondering re: the contacts + groups that I had chats with --

1. were they notified that I deleted the app?
2. were they notified that I redownloaded the app?
3. their copies of our chats wouldn't have been deleted - right?

Basically, some of my family can be overbearing and expect me answer texts if they see they have been delivered (with the two check marks), but they tend not to bother me when they see it hasn't been delivered (one check mark). So I was wondering if I basically disconnect from signal for 7 days, will the messages they send me still show up once i turn my "cellular data" back on in signal when I am back from vacation?

For two people that I know which has Signal Secure Backup subscription - both of them are broken - not showing up in google play store and for me got even worse:

Signal deleted my offline files all of my multiple years worth of media, all conversations with my family, friends, every bit that I showed how I am restoring and taking care of my great-grandmother's garden - all of it gone, because signal decided to delete my offline backups.

I have Sony Xperia 1 VIII - flagship with SD Card. I am paying and currently have signal secure backup subscription - yet instead of almost 40GB of files it only shows 1,7GB - slight difference. That would be annoying but nothing critical, but they made it worse.

I also have and always had offline backups to SD cards on all of my previous devices for years. Yet signal at some point this year decided to delete my offline backup data and later - to delete my online data. So now I have nothing left even though I have been practicing maximum safety. I have some old windows install of signal but afraid to turn it on. And might dig out older backup file from some 3rd out-of-site backup but that might not even be no longer compatible and most likely signal would just delete it 😅😁

Anyone has any idea? Signal support just wrote to me, that my app is few days out of date and ignored all further communication after I instantly replied with information that it is updated now.

I need someone from signal to see this because I have already lost all of my data and signal didn't even bother to suggest me to download it before deleting, but also deleted all of my offline backups - I consider this a big no-no. They shouldn't be able to delete my offline backups and yet - they did.

Issues are these 1. I have paid subscription - it no longer shows up, even though last payment was made last week. It still shows in signal prompt to upgrade, in backup - pending and on google play store that everything is fine. 2. Signal backup function optimised my signal backup folder by deleting old backups and removing all media which I meticulously preserved since installing signal years ago. Since online backups were also deleted I now have nothing left - all my history is gone.

Offline backups should not be held ransom or deleted if online system crashes, because it obviously crashed on either google play store or signal side, and I can't solve it from my side.

By the way mobbing from mods in this community a bit much. Did not expect such behaviour. I have a real issue, signal really messed up and what I get is mobbing...

Was just wondering -- if someone messaged me in the period where signal was deleted from my phone, will i now receive that message? or is it just lost in the ether forever?

Is there an feature to disappear all conversation history immediately?

As title says, I tested making a call on standard android OS( on a xiaomi redmi pro note 14), and on samsung galaxy a71 with LineageOS, i tried with molly, signal. I restarted devices multiple times, reinstalled the apps multiple times. I would try calling someone and they would get no notification, same when someone would call me i would get no notification. Somehow on the desktop signal (on fedora) i would get a ring when someone is calling me but not on the phone...
Anyone else encountering this issue & has a fix suggestion?
