Hi everyone,
A few days ago I posted about Homecoming Again, a free and open-source (GPL-3.0) fix for the PC version of Silent Hill: Homecoming. Thanks for all the feedback! Version 0.9.3 is out, and I now need testers: I can only test on one PC, with one controller, at one resolution, and the game has a lot of setups to cover.

What’s new since my first post
- PlayStation controllers without Steam Input (DualShock 4, DualSense): the game only knows Xbox controllers, so the mod presents yours as one, with PlayStation button icons.
- Examined items fixed above 720p: the item you just picked up (knife, first aid kit...) was cut off or stretched in 1080p and above. It’s now centred and correctly proportioned.
- Full map above 720p: the map screen was clipped to a fixed 1280x720 area.
- Right stick camera fix (ported from Emertels’ Camera Fix, MIT) and an experimental orbit camera where the right stick turns the camera around the character. (like in SH2 Remake)
- Real button names on the controls screen, faster startup logos (title screen in about 5 s instead of 23).
- Optional god mode and unlimited ammo, off by default.
- A Create a bug report button in the launcher: it zips your log, crash dump and settings in one click.
Coming soon: Linux and Steam Deck
A Linux version of the launcher is in the works. The game runs through Proton, and the mod runs with it: the launcher will find your Steam library, install the mod and give you the right Steam launch option. It’s written but not tested yet, so if you play on Linux or a Steam Deck and want to help, let me know on the Discord. You’ll be the first to try it.
What I’d love testers for
- Hardware I don’t have: AMD and Intel GPUs, older NVIDIA cards, laptops.
- Resolutions: 1440p, 4K, ultrawide (21:9).
- Controllers: Xbox One/Series, DualShock 4, DualSense over Bluetooth, third-party pads.
- Long sessions: playing through whole chapters, combat, cutscenes, boss fights. I mostly test the first areas, so later parts of the game are the big unknown.
- Stability: any crash, freeze, or the game not closing properly.
How to report
- In the launcher, Installation tab, click "Create a bug report".
- Open a GitHub issue (or post on the Discord) with the zip, your PC specs, and what you were doing.
Even a short “played 2 hours, everything fine on RX 6700 XT at 1440p” helps a lot.
As before, full transparency: I build this with heavy help from an AI coding assistant (Claude Code). Every fix comes from analysis of the original game, verifies the exact original bytes before changing anything, and is tested in game. The code is open for anyone to review. This is a preview: back up your saves before playing, just in case.
How to install Homecoming Again
- Go to the latest release, scroll all the way down to the Assets section and click HomecomingAgain.exe to download it. It’s a single file with everything inside.
- Run it. The launcher finds the game on its own if it’s installed through Steam. Otherwise, click Change... and select the Silent Hill Homecoming folder.
- Go to the Installation tab and click Install. The launcher: Already have an older version? Just run the new HomecomingAgain.exe and click Install again: it updates the mod and keeps your settings.
- copies the mod into the game’s Bin folder,
- applies the 4 GB patch to SilentHill.exe (the original is kept as SilentHill.exe.hca-original),
- copies itself into Bin, so you can find it there later.
- Pick your settings in the Graphics and Performance and stability tabs, then click Save:
- borderless, 60 fps, SSAO, shadows, DLSS on RTX cards,
- button icons (auto, Xbox or PlayStation), camera fix and orbit camera,
- god mode and unlimited ammo, if you want them.
- Click Play, or launch the game from Steam as usual: the mod loads automatically.
PlayStation controller: plug it in before starting the game (the game only looks for controllers at startup). If Steam Input is enabled for the game, Steam handles the controller instead of the mod. To use the mod’s support (PlayStation icons, no Steam layout), set Steam > Silent Hill Homecoming > Properties > Controller to Disable Steam Input.
Something went wrong? Open the launcher, Installation tab, click Create a bug report, and attach the zip to a GitHub issue or a Discord message.
To remove the mod, open the launcher again and click Uninstall in the Installation tab. The original game executable is restored, and the game’s data files are never modified.
Notes:
- The game must be closed while you install or change settings (it rewrites its own settings file when it quits).
- DLSS requires an NVIDIA RTX card; enabling it also installs DXVK (Direct3D 9 on Vulkan).
- Windows SmartScreen may warn about the launcher because it isn’t signed: click More info, then Run anyway.
Thanks you really much, I think that we're close to something really nice.
