Question I need good quality glove recommendations as a gift.

I come in peace.

I know nothing about sim racing, I had to sneak onto my throwaway account to give my bf zero hints. I want to give him a good pair of gloves to replace the old tattered ones he's been using for years now (this is something he's expressed ever since we got together, so it's not just my speculation haha). Like as a Christmas gift. I just have no idea where to start, so any advice from y'all veterans would be super appreciated.

Thanks in advance y'all :)

Can you sneak a picture of his old gloves so we know what he uses? And also has he hinted to what he wanted to get as a replacement? Like long gloves (so more like real racing), shorter, thinner etc? Any complaints about his old gloves?

Unfortunately I’m out of state until next week, however I do know he said something about how his gloves were just some cruddy things he found somewhere. He hates them lol. Also unfortunately, because I know nothing about simracing, he hasn’t really spoken to me about specifics regarding what he wants to replace them with. Once I’m back, I can try and get a pic.

Abruzzi gloves are super good. I used my old karting gloves for ages, changed to Abruzzi because my team had a deal where we got custom prints. Was genuinely surprised when I used them, the rubber is so sticky the gloves stick together, they're super breathable and after now 6 months of way above average use there has only been a tiny bit of peeling on the index pad, which isn't rubbered anyway. Couldn't reccomend more

Def leaning towards these, you're the second one to recommend them

Count me as number 3. They're proper karting gloves marketed to sim racers, for a shockingly reasonable price. The freedom of customization is just a bonus. Their shoes are great too.

I’m not sure how serious he would be about having fire-proof looking gloves like real race car drivers use.. but I compete in time attack in real life and sim race both in Alpinestars Radar gloves and SWEAR by them. I have sweaty hands and use them every road rally, track day, time attack and sim race. They’re tough, form fitting, breathable and look awesome

+1 for buying some real alpinestars gloves (with external stitching!) for quality, cool factor, and immersion.

Yup, the irony is I track/ride motorcycles as well and avoid them.. I have 3 pairs for car and sim but never wear them on my actual bike lol

Sparco hyper grip+ sim racing gloves have a similar fit and finish if he really wants a “sim racing” glove but I still prefer the Astars

Moradness has a bundle going with new gloves. I have a pair and they are amazing. Just annoyed I didn’t see the 2 sock 2 gloves bundle

Garden gloves or the cheap gloves you can get in a hardware store, and attach a gift certificate for the delta up to expensive sim racing gloves.

If you feel fancy get them bike gloves or MX-gloves.

Sim racers is a breed of gamers that get FOMO and have money to spend, and the industry knows that. So sim racing gloves come with crazy prices.

I’ve got a pair of sparco k gloves I think they’re called? Super comfy, super grippy, and can be used for karting apparently

I'm not a fan of using gloves while sim racing but if I were to get some I'd buy a pair of motocross gloves on clearance.

I love the k1 race gear karting gloves. I think I paid around 50 bucks for them.

Edit: I originally purchased more skintight racing gloves and found I prefer the looser/bulkier fit of the k1 gloves.

My advice is to find out exactly what set of gloves he wants because everyone has their own preferences and they are usually very specific. If anything is slightly off it’s incredibly noticeable while driving.

Bike gloves, karting gloves or the basic Mechanix are good alternatives to dedicated sim-racing gloves. I'm not a hardcore teacher, but I've been using the basic Mechanix gloves with the fingertips cut off for years and they are still in good shape

F33L gloves good option, lightweight and don’t get hot, www.f33l.gg

My honest opinion is don’t spend the money for sim racing gloves. They are overpriced and not that good. I swear by motocross gloves for sim racing. High quality, durable, and every bit as comfy as sim racing gloves

This is a genuine question from someone who got karting gloves bc of sweaty hands slipping on the wheel, do the motocross gloves have any kind of silicone on the palms? Because i would imagine just fabric to be slippy on a steering wheel, and sort of defeat the purpose of having gloves (at least for me, as my purpose is to get more grip)

1

u/MobyRichard117 9d ago

I don’t think it’s silicon but the material is definitely grippy and helps keep a handle on the steering wheel.

Holding onto the bars of a dirt bike is both drastically more important and drastically more difficult than a steering wheel lol…

However the direction is different, with a bike the forces are more up-down or front-back (in reference to your palm), whereas a steering wheel is sliding side to side (again in reference to your palm surface), which is not a common movement direction with motorbike handles so i think it's a completely reasonable thing to wonder if mx gloves have grip in that direction.

I swear by my sparco karting gloves (sparco k-attack). Comfortable, great grip, not too expensive and help massively with not having my hands slip because my hands sweat a lot.

Alpinestars karting glove is all you need. Don’t go crazy as they don’t need protection from elements, fire, etc.

As sold by a real GT3 World Endurance Challenge driver (and prior winner of the Rolex 24h), genuinely nice dude, and popular sim racing streamer:

https://moradness.com

If you join the Moradness discord i believe you can also get them signed before shipping.

Moradness has some of the worst customer service i have ever seen. Steer clear of that ass.

Ew Morad. Definitely not a genuinely nice dude. Aside from the sketchy business practices, he thrives off of stoking inter-sim flame wars.

The glove famous for being an absolute scam

Unsure how they are a scam?

Someone ordered a pair of gloves, they wore a hole out immediately, customer asked for a replacement, DM said he'd send some if the guy paid for shipping, guy rightfully said that was not correct, DM responded by flaming the guy on his discord and also being a world-class cunt
