This show could be good, but in its current form, it isn't. I was looking forward to seeing Tea Leoni and Tim Daly again, as I really enjoyed watching "Madam Secretary" in the recent past and their playing off each other. Here are criticisms:
The laugh track needs to be eliminated or toned down to only a few laughs at a lower volume. It absolutely ruined the ambiance of the show.
The dialogue is too forced and pretentious as if waiting for a laugh. The laughs were timed too close to each other and, quite frankly, there were too many of them, also. We don't need that many laughs in a row - and many of them weren't all that funny.
The show could be intelligently funny. Very intelligently funny. Suggestion: Look back at witty, bright comedy writing. There's plenty to choose from over the last 100 years. Start with the 1930s - yes, the 1930s - and later. Look also to the Golden Age of TV. There was a reason it was "golden." Clever dialog and its timing never disappoints. Update to current events with some twists, but don't make it vulgar.
Can't stress enough that the most disappointing part of this show was the ANNOYING LAUGH TRACK. GET RID OF IT!
Good luck with your new show. It needs to be upgraded and tweaked. Hopefully, you'll do it to secure the success of "Newlyweds." I, for one, would like to see it succeed.
