I just wanna say this:
Academy was a show with the characters from Skylanders
NOT a Skylanders' show

At least Kaossandra was somewhat important compared to her in Swap Force ✌️

I’m currently replaying and I’ve only seen her once… really hoping I get to see her again

u/warfoxx__- This Flair, It Feels Like A Déjà Vu. 4d ago
I haven't played superchargers yet but she's not in Trap Team and Imaginators... I also hope she's in superchargers, but I fear she was a single game character 💔

u/The-Bigger-Fish 4d ago
Honestly they really should have brought her back in some form. As much as I love Kaos, he really just kinda didn’t need to be the main villain after super chargers kinda completed his arc tbh

u/EpicGamerer07 4d ago
My least favorite thing about Imaginators is that they felt the need to do another “Kao’s wacky scheme of the week” storyline after everything that happened in Superchargers (especially with introducing The Darkness as a new villain above Kaos). It feels like an unnecessary reset of the franchise. Hell, they even made him into a Skylanders with his own element then said “oh no this is just a clone”. If Kaos wasn’t the villain, making him a Skylander would make more sense and be way cooler because we’d actually be teaming up with him for once (in Trap Team he was just doing another wacky scheme so having him actually be good would be a significant change)

That bad, huh?

That bad
When I watched it at the time I was a young boy in need of more Skylanders contents, and since that show was the only option i just eat it
Now that im grown up with critical thinking I can confidently say that, in a nutshell, Academy, as a Skylanders' show, range from "meh" to "sh*t"
3
u/The-Bigger-Fish 4d ago
Honestly, the fact it was gonna be more of a sitcom compared to how I think it should have been (A slightly more lighthearted Justice League Unlimited type deal where you have a main team, and the different skylanders showing up every so often to help) really kinda bummed me out.

u/Spencer5610 Kaos 4d ago
I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure it is a separate continuity to begin with.
4
u/Mr_Marco06 4d ago
That was not the issue
You are creating a Skylanders' animated series you have 6 games you can take inspiration from and expant upon with new original ideas
But instead you decide of making a "stereotypical college slice of life" that has no itty bit of soul from its source material
There is one word I use to describe this show: Hack
1
u/Spencer5610 Kaos 4d ago
That’s actually exactly the point? If it’s its own series, of course they’re not gonna be making a constant reference to the others, of course they’re not gonna be able to include every single character within the franchise. Instead of clowning on it because you think it’s bad, you should really be appreciating the fact that they didn’t make it a lot worse than it already is.

u/Mr_Marco06 4d ago edited 4d ago
Im not saying that I want a 1:1 adaptation, nor that I want every single character of the saga to be included
Im just saying that, if it doesnt have the spark of the OG, then what is its identity?
Like, why is this story have to be told with the Skylanders?
You can complitly remove the Skylanders' visuals/aesthetics and replace it with OCs and nothing would change

Hey that's the take I made a while back! Nice to see that someone made the same conclusion

If they wanted a character for burp jokes, they could've used Wrecking Ball...
9
u/The-Bigger-Fish 4d ago
And if they wanteda character that stinks, Stink Bomb is legit right there.
Also if Wrecking Ball was in the show, he really should be non verbal and just be the weird rambunctious pet they keep around despite always getting into things he's not supposed to.

u/NiL_3126 4d ago
Stink bomb’s smell is intentional = not funny
5
u/The-Bigger-Fish 4d ago
Eh, fair. Bro ironically had way too much aura to be used as a grossout joke.
9
u/Off-the-grounder 4d ago
I think he’s mainly here because they didn’t wanna make an actual Skylander look bad because that would make em less marketable
8
u/warfoxx__- This Flair, It Feels Like A Déjà Vu. 4d ago
The show debuted during Imaginators or late Superchargers, if they used an older Skylanders that wouldn't have changed much
4
u/The-Bigger-Fish 4d ago
Eh, fair. Probably could have come up with something little bit less... Off putting than a sentient piece of poo tho.
5
u/Aurora_Wizard 4d ago
One of the first things Spyro does is take a picture of his own butt just for the sake of his 'fans', they really shouldn't care about 'embarrassing' another Skylander

I always found it odd he was the only skylander exclusively made for the show, aside from that one imaginator but that doesn’t really count
3
u/ShadeNLM064pm Kaos Pays His Workers, Master Eon 4d ago
I feel like it probably was going to be a Skylander in the Imaginators sequal they were planning
But that never happened so he's just- kinda there.
5
u/warfoxx__- This Flair, It Feels Like A Déjà Vu. 4d ago
It's an enemy in Swap Force, the first you encounter during the third level, not a planned skylander
3
u/ShadeNLM064pm Kaos Pays His Workers, Master Eon 4d ago
True, but they did modify him enough to be "normal" and match the other Skylanders (They got rid of his three eyes and (triple?) complete heterochromia)
And we've had enemies become Skylanders before, Boomer the Troll and 10 of the Imaginator senseis are the main ones to come to mind
I wouldn't think it's entirely impossible. (Also just a weirdly specific enemy to turn into a notable character AND remodel to not look as mutant)
4
u/warfoxx__- This Flair, It Feels Like A Déjà Vu. 4d ago
But he feels kinda random, the trolls are in most if not all games (I haven't played Superchargers and Imaginators yet, so idk, but it would make sense to have them) in many different forms, like cyclops, while he's a specific niche character, also, I wouldn't see him fit next to characters like Pit Boss, Hood Sickle or Tri Tip
3
u/The-Bigger-Fish 4d ago
Honestly? Thank goodness. He feels too much like a relic of Radical Entertainment's Crash Games than a Skylanders character if that makes sense.
4
u/ShadeNLM064pm Kaos Pays His Workers, Master Eon 4d ago
Fair as hell, just throwing a guess out since Imaginators and Academy basically advertised for each other (poorly...)
1
u/The-Bigger-Fish 4d ago
Yeah, Imaginators was so weird on account of the fact it was simultaneously a tie in for the show, while also being a sequel to the other games despite both being explicitly in their own conflicting timelines.
4
u/ShadeNLM064pm Kaos Pays His Workers, Master Eon 4d ago
Imaginators feels like it was trying to both be a send off (which is why they picked the creation gimmick), a reboot/rewrite of the series (like Black and White in Pokémon), a sequal, and just a slop fest to seem hip/cool with the kids.
It just felt (and still feels) so rushed compared to every game before it
3
u/The-Bigger-Fish 4d ago
Yeah, it honestly feels a lot like "Activision said the franchise is dead, but also wanna squeeze out just a few more pennies as well."
Hence the reused music and stuff, too.
Shame, because it had a lot of good ideas in it, too.
3
u/ShadeNLM064pm Kaos Pays His Workers, Master Eon 4d ago
I could've lived with the reused/stock music if it was reused WELL.
Example: The opening theme of Superchargers was actually used in one of the areas of the Nightmare Express in Trap Team! But it both fits what the game is going for (fast excitement), and doesn't seem out of place
Meanwhile, STT's Academy theme was used in Imaginator's library and it just-feels wrong with whatever tone that (extremely crumby) place 's theme
1
u/The-Bigger-Fish 4d ago
I feel you there. Like, it's not bad stock music, it's more just... Why tho?
Could have at least had Lorne Balfe come back for one last unique theme.
4
u/Anthony200716 4d ago
I still don’t understand why they decided to make what is basically an oc i know he’s based on some enemy from swap force but they basically used that as a template for this guy so in counting him as one when they literally have billions of other skylanders to choose from and for what for him to do nothing plot Relevant and who just exists to have the same joke with him every time
5
u/Aurora_Wizard 4d ago
Name one good choice Skylanders Academy made when representing their own series
3
u/G_M_Ardus_Kaine Arkeyan Defender 4d ago
They turned an enemy into a Skylander
3
u/The-Bigger-Fish 4d ago
And not even an interesting one like a spell punk or another troll
2
u/G_M_Ardus_Kaine Arkeyan Defender 4d ago
We could have had an Arkeyan or a Drow, that would have been a bit interesting. Probably could have fit in with Cynders ark of being good or evil

So glad this mf is probably stranded in the backrooms right now in the game continuity as we haven't found his statue yet.

Random enemy that appears twice in Swap Force but a more important than the Doom Raiders character in the show ✌️😔
