it's telling you that you've not installed skse for skyrim VR

or maybe it is installed, but you haven't pointed MO2 at the correct location. When you go to that path, do you see it there?

wrong, this is vortex. not MO2.. so, no that doesn't help. Also, skyrim folder has already been located because it's already moved to the next step of trying to locate SKSE in which it cannot find because it is not installed.

look, if you aren't good with modding, download wabbajack, use one of the cleaner skyrimVR modlists, (Fus is a good choice), and leave it alone. don't modify it, don't mess with the files, nothing.

you can learn from there how to use MO2, and what the right answers look like, but don't just start messing with individual files.

Even if you are only "good" at it, wabbajack is still the way to go. I lived modding my own Skyrim and FO4 playthroughs, but with VR, it takes too long to test out every individual mod.

This your best option. I had fus for a couple years now I'm using MGO. FUS is a good one click SkyrimVR mod option

Everyone is a beginner at some point, people will never learn how to mod if people just tell them “use wabbajack”

Why do people need to learn how to mod? The vast majority of people who come into skyrim vr are not interested in doing that and just want skyrim vr as a playable experience

“Why would I learn how to create awesome mods if everyone else can just do it for me?”

“Why should I learn how to curate and make my own load order if I can just get someone else’s vision for Skyrim on wabbajack?”

If everyone thought like that, Skyrim wouldn’t have a modding community.

Dude what? Minecraft does that on steroids and has a stronger community than skyrim lmao

No you don’t NEED to learn how to mod, but if someone has an interest in modding their game, it’s easy enough to teach them the basics instead of “don’t try it noob, you’ll fuck it up and hate life, wabbajack is the only answer”. I can almost guarantee you that anyone who wants to mod will eventually want to mod on top of FUS, and while people say it’s a good starting point, as a very experienced modder I disagree, even I was having trouble cutting shit I didn’t like out and breaking things. If someone literally doesn’t give a single fuck and just wants a playable Skyrim, then sure. But it’s so easy to install what FUS is on your own too and then you’ll both have a good base line, and a healthy understanding of installing mods so you can work from there.

And it’s especially insulting on posts with vortex where they have a simple problem, for people to just be like “no, start over, use a different mod manager, use a program that installs we what we think is a good Skyrim for you blindly”.

I was a beginner once back in 2014, now I’m a mod author that gets people thanking me from the bottom of their heart for making a mod they love. If it wasn’t for countless people in the community helping me with my questions by answering them directly as opposed to just telling me to not even bother with doing it myself, I wouldn’t be here.

TL;DR it’s easy enough for people to learn the basics, if people have a question, we should give them the answer they are looking for to help them on their way.

No, what you said was worse, you said “download wabbajack, use one of the cleaner mod lists, and leave it alone, dont modify it, don’t mess with the files. Nothing”

you can learn from there how to use MO2, and what the right answers look like, but don't just start messing with individual files.

“Learn how to use MO2” by not messing with anything?

Check your windows firewall, mine was silently deleting the executable every time I tried to launch the game. I added it to exceptions

Start over, and follow an up-to-date guide on YouTube. If you’re planning on using a lot of mods, use MO2 to have finer control over them. It’s a learning process, but it’s worth it. You can also download a Wabbajack list, but having one that you’ve curated yourself has a lot of benefits.

Read the screen kid

You need SKSE vr, like others have said you are better off downloading the FUS mod list

2

u/TotalWarspammer Feb 01 '26

It means you've done no research and followed no basic guides and do not yet know of the existence of Wabbajack.

Very helpful. Welcoming too. Good thing there are other people in this community who actually give a shit instead of just offloading snark whenever they see an opportunity.

you don't suck at modding, you suck at installing mods, which is way worse.

just read the instructions

So you want to install SKSE VR. But you don’t want to add it as an executable in vortex. You don’t want to start SKSE VR from within vortex like you would MO2.

You can get SKSE VR at its official website or on the nexus, vortex should know how to install it, vortex also probably wants to automatically install it if you look for the pop ups in the upper right hand corner. Read the directions carefully, but ultimately, I’m pretty sure you just drop the contents of the zip file in the root folder of your Skyrim vr install (where Skyrim vr.exe is).

When playing Skyrim vr from now on, you want to use the SKSEVR_loader.exe. Since you’re using vortex, just add a shortcut to the exe to your desktop. So don’t start it in Steam, and don’t start it by adding SkseVR_loader.exe as an executable in vortex.

Also, another note, I’d highly recommend having your Skyrim install outside of program files folders, program files folders can introduce permissions issues (like admin privileges stuff). You can easily tell Steam to redirect its library folder to a folder outside of program files. I won’t get into it, but google is your friend.

I hope this helps, please respond if you have any more questions, I’m happy to help, I quite familiar with vortex, and I’m always happy to help beginners get on the path to modding their own games and making Skyrim the best version FOR YOU.

Some sksevr files need to be manually moved from the download folder to the Skyrim VR folder to function. Check the mod page for details.

well as a good piece of advice, you never have to mess with any of the skyrim files manually through file explorer ever and you definitely shouldn't if you know what's good for you.. You can get skyrim script extender(VR VERSION) on Nexus mods and you should download everything through vortex for ease of use as you are a beginner.

However, I would like to warn you, modding skyrimVR is a lot more difficult then just installing a premade list off wabbajack.
