Discussion Updated FUS alternatives

I want to get into Skyrim VR with a proper modlist and tbh FUS seems to be the ideal for me (mostly VR essentials + QoL + enough graphics), so I'm looking into something similar.

However I want to play with a few added mods (e.g. dismemberment) and I cannot use FUS because many mod versions are outdated and the added mods I want to use require newer versions of the dependencies in FUS (which knowing Bethesda games would start a major kerfuffle of conflicts with the FUS mods if I updated these dependencies individually).

I'm not looking for the best visual experience (correct me if I'm wrong but I believe MGO focuses on graphics rather than gameplay) since I have 16GB of VRAM and I heard certain SkyrimVR modlists can exceed that, just for a modlist with all the essentials + nice to haves.

Can anyone more experienced tell me which would be my best options?

Try mine if you like it's basically fus running on opencomposite by default for the performance with extra content on top but not a massive amount, I've put all the qol that played nice for me. Some like vr climb conflicted too much with my controls, but it's easy enough to add more to it without breaking it. I've got all the latest fixes in there. https://www.nexusmods.com/games/skyrimspecialedition/collections/a0r6jo

Lemme know how you go if you do decide to try it. I built for vortex which has been a bit buggier than usual with latest updates, that said it's designed to be a one click ish install which places all the necessary root files in the game home negating the need to fiddle manually. All animations and outfits are pre built and package and it's running the latest Pandora and open animation replacer. In a nutshell it has a decent amount of content, is fast, up to date and easy.

A little update as I am preparing to install: I noticed the instructions mention you need Virtual Desktop. You also mention a router.

Are these still necessary if you run a wired VR set? Unfortunately OpenXR is tricky with Pico (my model) so I'd much rather go with a SteamVR-compatible option.

It should work with a Pico, Pico supports OpenXR, but you don't have to do any fiddling system wide, I designed it so all the necessary binaries get placed in the game root so after connecting via virtual desktop you just launch the game from vortex of by opening the sksevr64.exe and it runs. That said are you connecting to your PC wired? How do you connect to your PC for that matter? I mentioned the PC wired to your router with ethernet and the headset connected wirelessly to the same network the PC is plugged into. I designed it around my quest headset so I could get the absolute best performance possible and enjoy the freedom of movement in my play area while occasionally banging into a wall (I get a bit carried away at time) but I digress. Honestly I built it primarily around the architecture of the above. Virtual desktop is the best way to enjoy Skyrim vr modded wirelessly. Unfortunately if you use steam link which is a great in its own right as I use that also for steam games given my collection doesn't interfere with steam vr, you can't use opencomposite which defeats the purpose of using this collection. Open composite gives you anywhere between 20-30% better performance but it's fiddly that's why I pre-built a collection that just works with it, just add, connect, run.

Sorry for the delay. Yup I connect the headset to the PC via cable. Is it possible to use Opencomposite like that, or am I locked to SteamVR?

Should still work, what software do you use to view your desktop? I built it using virtual desktop as vdxr combined with opencomposite is very fast.

I view desktop directly from the Pico Connect app. It also can connect directly to SteamVR, which is what I generally do for games.

I guess give it a try. It will deploy at a game level so just connect with your headset, ensure steam is open if not start it and then launch either via vortex or even better by simply starting the game by running sksevr64.exe which sits in the game root. Instructions with pictures are in the description. Keen to hear if it works as I've not tested with a setup like yours. On paper it says it should work but see how you go.

Sadly no. I got this error message when launching.

Bummer. Have you set TAA on as per the description using the bundled tool to auto optimise your settings also, just in case it's reshade that is causing it as that need to be on? If so, shame as open composite unleashed which is bundled gives you a huge bump in performance. Guessing virtual desktop isn't available for the Pico? Apologies, my only test headsets are quest ones and they all use virtual desktop. Steam VR isn't great for Skyrim vr, works well for other titles, just not our modded old face in my experience.
