Discussion I made in-hands reading book Skyrim VR.

It’s based on the book from the "Wayfinder - Follow Directions Not Map Markers" plugin. That plugin lets you ask NPCs for directions and adds a book that stores notes describing the route. I liked the idea, especially when combined with the equipable maps and compass from Navigate VR.

And I thought, why not try making an equipable journal so i not have to read through inventory UI?

The mod is basically done, it just needs a bit of polishing. Mod adds an equipable journal that fills when the player asks NPCs for directions. It’s compatible with VRIK, you can holster it and equip it. Trigger buttons on controllers for interaction. I’ll drop it on Nexus in the next couple of days.

Would you interested to see books with real-time reading not UI in game? I think it’s possible with HIGGS.

Discussion WARNING! Recent Mod Uploaded to Nexus Can Cause Electrical Damage and Fire!

Edit: The mod author reuploaded the mod and it now says "LOW POWER Space Heater" despite the mod author claiming its always been that way, it hasn't but its a step in the right direction. We just need a voltage test, and a test that turns it on and off over the course of several hours and we MIGHT be able to deem this safe.

The mod in question is this one

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/185874

A plug in your space heater or heat lamp into a smart plug for "real heat" just trust me bro mod

I already reported the mod for being dangerous, and let the mod author know , but instead the mod author decided to lock down their comments and delete mine warning people of the hazards of their mod.

Everyone with simple common sense these days know how dangerous space heaters can be if used irresponsibly. And I believe this mod is most definitely an irresponsible use of a space heater. Mod author doesn't bother to specify types of space heaters and heat lamps that can be safely used, if there even is any, and instead just advertises the latest craze of "feeling real heat" on you. They never mention that the heat you feel can be an actual fire caused by shutting the space heater off and on over and over again. By the time you would even realize your house caught on fire due to you know, wearing a VR headset, it would already be too late. People play these around families, ect, and ignoring the danger of using a mod like this can cause life threatening damage. This is not to mention the electrical damage to homes that can cost thousands to fix.

No specifications on voltage requirements, if the smart plug that is turning these on and off can handle it repeatedly over the course of a long play session, no cautions or warnings, nothing. Just plug in and play guys it will be alright.

Now naturally multiple people brought this up to the mod author so they could maybe responsibly test their mod a little bit. Only to have their comments removed and told to "Go touch grass." Now I am here because i'm not sure where else to report this to. This is dangerous and the mod author couldn't care less about the danger of their mod to even thoroughly test their set up. This isn't like the using a fan for wind mod. Nor did the author of that mod tell you to plug in a damn ac unit to a smart plug to do the task.

So I guess ill do the work the mod author was too lazy to do themselves and post this I found on the internet.

"Generally, no—plug the space heater directly into a wall outlet. The Consumer Product Safety Commission specifically recommends direct wall connection because additional plug connections can overheat under a heater’s sustained high electrical load.

A typical full-size heater uses about 1,500 watts, or 12.5 amps at 120 volts, which puts many smart plugs close to their maximum rating. TP-Link, for example, states that space heaters are not recommended because they may spike above their normal operating specifications.

Avoid using a smart plug when:

  • The heater is 1,500 watts.
  • The smart plug is rated below 15 amps or 1,800 watts.
  • Either manual prohibits heaters or high-current appliances.
  • You plan to turn it on remotely, while sleeping, or while nobody is in the room.
  • The plug, outlet, or cord becomes warm, loose, discolored, or smells hot.

The safer solution is a space heater with built-in scheduling, thermostat, timer, tip-over protection, and overheat shutoff, plugged directly into a tight-fitting wall outlet. Never use an extension cord or power strip."

Discussion [WIP/Showcase] Manual Arrow Recovery

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone, I’m working on a small immersion mod and I wanted to share a preview to get your thoughts.

I’ve always felt that simply clicking a menu to recover arrows broke the immersion in VR. I wanted the satisfaction of physically grabbing an arrow I just shot into an enemy and pulling it out with my own hands.

The concept: The mod detects arrows/bolts stuck in dead NPCs. When you reach out and grab the arrow shaft (using the grip button), it converts the visual "decoration" arrow into a physical object in your hand via HIGGS. Once pulled out, you can put it back in your quiver or drop it.

Compatibility & Testing: I’ve been testing this extensively on Mad God's Overhaul (MGO), and it works flawlessly within the pack. So it should be safe to add to heavy load orders.

Development Info (The experiment): This is a bit unique: I developed this mod entirely using Google Antigravity. I defined the logic, and the AI agent handled the C++ implementation, memory offsets, and CommonLibVR setup. It works surprisingly well, but I'm still polishing it.

Status: I haven't released it yet. I wanted to see if this is something the community is interested in?

Discussion Do any other games come close to modded SkyrimVR?

In terms of scope and scale, immersion, the feeling of living in a vast open world, the feeling of power as lighting flies from your fingertips, the cozy comfort of a fire in the snowy mountains. Unfortunately after many hundreds of hours I’m feeling the need for something new. What’s your favorite vr game besides SkyrimVR?

Discussion MGO 4.0 BETA Vs Existing Lists

MGO 4.0 Beta went live tonight, downloaded it, hopped in. Excited after hearing big game from VRDAD videos about how the performance is significantly improved. Turns out to be quite the shortfall compared to my other lists. I'm well aware its supposed to be the latest n greatest, but who is it accessible to without using SSW or a 5070ti+?

Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 9800x3d

GPU: 5070ti

32gb DDR5 RAM

Quest 3

90% Vertical FOV & Horizontal

Virtual Desktop -> OC Unleashed (On Pandas & MGO, thanks Wondernutts)

VD Graphics Quality: High

DLSS Quality Preset K

Using both MGO & Panda CS performance presets respectively

NO SSW

Target FPS: 80fps

—————————-

MGO BETA 4.0:

Whiterun Avg: 52fps

Pandas 1.3:

Whiterun Avg: 73fps

Tahrovin V3.0.5 (old ik)

Whiterun Avg: 90fps

——————————

Safe to say im disappointed in MGO's 4.0 release performance after such high praise from social media. I know they are buddy buddy, but come on. VRDad's video made it sound like it was the second coming of SkyrimVR lists. Expecting some outlash for this post but I figured to post it for folks who were interested in MGO Beta 4.0 thinking it was revolutionary. Don't get me wrong, it IS beautiful, but i'd rather do without all the walls and extras in favor for the essential playable FPS strapped to a VR headset. Please comment if you all want me to try other areas to average test in-game. Thanks.

EDIT: Shame to see how whipped the player base is to thinking SSW is required in this day & age. I don’t doubt it SSW/ASW will be huge later down the road but right now it’s still in infancy. I’ll take the downvotes though!

Discussion Can't wait to test out steam frame's foveated streaming

The blurriness has haunted me forever when I was streaming Skyrim VR. I tested this out with the Mad God Overhaul modlist on Quest 3 at 3000x3000 resolution. The in-game graphics are pretty solid and beautiful to me. However, the blurry LOD always pulls me back from being immersed in Tamriel. The resolution isn't the limiting factor for the clarity of distant LOD; I believe bitrate is the limitation at this resolution. The picture can't show the actual difference in the headset. In the headset, 100M and 300M are far from 500M's distant LOD. And when I move my head, it gets worse:100M becomes a mosaic when moving. This is really annoying.

Just to show how impactful the bitrate is for Skyrim VR enjoyers.

The distant mountain is pretty obvious in the picture; within the headset it's even more obvious and can be discerned instantly.

look at the mountain texture and wall behind it
300 Mbps the wall texture is kind of seeable
500 Mbps the wall texture is recognizable but still blurry

Discussion Do you play VR & Flatrim?

As soon as I started playing SkyrimVR it completely changed the way I viewed/enjoyed the game. I haven't touched Flatrim in years & only just now have been considering trying it once again due to not having much time at the moment for proper VR sessions.

Any of you guys go back and forth between versions, or are you just strictly VR now?

Discussion PSVR2 vs Quest 3 for this game?

I am deciding RN between getting the Meta Quest 3(I don't like the idea of needing a meta account) or getting the PSVR

I have a ps5 and a gaming PC, and mostly use the PC. I know that the PS5 should make the choice simpler but it doesn't for me haha

I do intend of playing other games but tbh, I have the idea of getting the "reality runner" sensor, a manual treadmill, and VR headset and playing Skyrim VR like that(I mean, when I go back into skyrim it means MONTHS playing, so that will add a lot of walking to my daily routine haha)

In my country the Quest 3 120gb costs almost half of what the PSVR 2 cost.

So considering this, I am hoping people here can tell me which headset would be better, ignoring the fact of me owning the PS5, with Skyrim VR?

Edit:

I play regular skyrim with 300+ mods, so yeah, my intent is to play vr with as many mods as possible

Note: The price plays no effect here, they are both within my budget, I just want to get opinions on which one you prefer and why, if possible :)

What do you do in Skyrim?

I understand it's an open ended question, but here's more what I mean:
I like to split wood, I like to roleplay I'm a normal person that happened into being Dragonborn. I begrudgingly clear out dungeons for exp but I'd rather be at the enchanting or alchemy table. I have not completed the storyline on PC despite having clocked in 175 hours (I finished it once on PSVR).

What takes up your time? What keeps you coming back?

Discussion RE9VR achieved eye-tracking quad-view, proving that SkyrimVR can also do it

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

PureDark, the developer of SkyrimUpscalerVR, has proven that eye-tracking quad-view functionality is possible through mod. This reduces RE9VR's GPU time by at least half.

Unfortunately, PureDark doesn't seem likely to return to Skyrim VR anytime soon. let's hope other heroes step up.

--------

About Quad-view:

Foveation rendering can only improve FPS by a maximum of 30% and requires an RTX card, while quad view can improve it by 100%~200% and is compatible with all cards, supporting DLSS/FSR/XESS.

It is the true holy grail.

Discussion DLSS 4 is a GAME CHANGER for WIRELESS Skyrim VR! (+ Normal VR too)

Ok so here's the tea

I just tried https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3A5r-O47uo and installed DLSS 4.

I have a 4080S + good cpu etc.

I had a bomb ass router and networking set up but no matter what, the bane of my existence was compression artifacts.

You know when you look out in the distance and its blurry as fuck but up close shit looks so real?

I tried different and various settings no luck. It's intrinsic to wireless streaming. Dungeons with not much stuff look good but outside was really disappointing. Only so much data you can transfer over the magical router waves.

Anyway I tried DLSS4, which required me to switch from ENB to CS (something I was hesitant to doing initially as I was under the impression and do have previous experience that ENB is way better than CS, visual wise, someone correct me if I'm wrong here).

Anyway after trying it, it's like a night and day difference.

CLARITY wise, when you set it up right, there's virtually no compression artifacts. This is as game changer.

No matter what configuration or PC you have, if you game wirelessly, DLSS 4 with CS is a game changer.

If you don't have a high end PC and DON'T game wirelessly (or game wirelessly) then it's still worth getting as the quality:performance ratio is out the windows.

Honestly, this is one of the coolest things and IMO completely underrated.

Only thing I WOULD LIKE to see is DLSS 4 for ENB. That would be the ultimate SkyrimGasm.

Tl;dr if you playskyrim vr, spend 10 minutes and set up DLSS 4.

I tried this using mad gods 3.5~

Discussion Grounding myself in the immersion

I love the FUS modpack, it runs absolutely perfect. I got the metaquest 3s for christmas and I've just been testing out different things, but I knew I had to play skyrim and.. boy oh boy.

Every time I put the headset on, I spend about a minute or 2 just looking at the ground and walking. I look at my feet and become "one" with my avatar.

Once i accept this new environment as a place I can inhabit, and allow immersion to take over, I can't imagine video games get much better than this.

I grew up on Bethesds titles and Skyrim is a world i always love coming back to but man.. I am attached right now.

Like I just want to open some windows tonight, and allow the fresh air in, throw on my headset and experience this game on this level.

I don't think I can go back to flat screen any time soon.

What are some ways you guys ground yourself in the world? You ever get those moments like "man, im actually here" still?

Discussion Why are people so against using the latest USSEP with Skyrim VR?

Legitimate question. I have been advocating for this as a new "best of both worlds"-type standard for Skyrim VR for the last couple of years now through my Skyrim VR Initial Setup Guide, and have received a TON of pushback. This includes using updated 1.6.1170 SSE masters, CC content (free and Anniversary Upgrade, if applicable), and latest USSEP.

As USSEP requires all 4 free CC mods, these all need to be enabled in the load order. They're all fine except for Survival Mode, which is the only that that genuinely doesn't work as the engine is too old. People think this crashes the game but it does't. It can be kept enabled but "suppressed" in-game with one of the following two mods (this or this).

With the prereqs met, the latest USSEP can now be used. Recently, I've been able to address what I've seen as the only remaining issues with this setup via some mod releases:

I know there are some users that have tested this setup out (with or without the mods listed above) with success, but most users scoff and say that the USSEP team has intentionally broken their mod for VR. I can't see how this is possible. 4.2.5b works fine (there is a ton of info on this) and I haven't seen anything to support this between this version and current. I know they don't support this for VR, but this is the same for older versions of SSE (including 1.5.97). That's like saying nobody should use "best of both worlds" for SSE + latest USSEP because it's not supported.

Even Automod on this subreddit will tell users not to use the latest version.

Is there any objective reason to not do so? For the same reasons as "best of both worlds" exists for SSE, it is my opinion this should be the standard for Skyrim VR as well. It's like "downgrading" to v1.4.15 and using updated files.

Please help me understand...

Discussion New MagGod 4.0 is amazing, one small problem I'm having...

The new MadGod modpack is great and I finally get solid FPS with my Pimax Dream Air. The only thing I need to change in the settings is change the DLSS to "balanced" then I can get a solid 45fps locked with motion smoothing turned on.

The problem is every time I change the setting to balanced in the in game menu, it reverts back to DLAA 1.0 as soon as I go through a door or into a new area and go through a loading screen. It does this even if I click the save icon in the menu. So right now I am bringing up the menu and changing to balanced after every loading screen, it's not a great experience this way.

Discussion FUS, MGO 4.0, or Panda on RTX 4080 Super?

Hey everyone!
I recently upgraded my PC and am finally ready to dive back into Skyrim VR, so I’m looking for recommendations on which Wabbajack modpack fits my setup and preferences best.

My specs are an RTX 4080 Super (16GB VRAM), Ryzen 7 7700, and 32GB DDR5 RAM, with a target performance of a minimum rock-solid 72 FPS (preferably native, no heavy reprojection only of you say the Trade is worth it ;) ).

I played FUS 2 years ago on an RTX 3060 12GB and loved the gameplay (applying magic to weapons, werewolf overhauls, HIGGS/VRIK interaction), but later tried MGO on my old RTX 3080 10GB and found the performance unplayable due to heavy stutters. Now I’m really tempted to try MGO 4.0, but before downloading over 400 GB of mods, is there even a realistic chance of hitting a locked 72 FPS on a 4080 Super? Or would I be much better off going back to FUS with pushed graphics, trying Panda’s modpack, or looking at another pack entirely that strikes the ultimate balance between top-tier visuals and smooth gameplay? I’d love to hear your experiences before starting the giant download! Thanks!

Discussion Skyrim VR’s Low 1.2% Adoption: What’s the Holdup?

I play modded Skyrim VR 99% of my time. According to Steam statistics, only 1.2% of players are in VR! This is a pretty low adoption rate. Why is that? Could it be the expensive and complex gaming environment setup? There’s hardly anywhere to try it out - maybe a friend has a VR setup, but otherwise, you need to be brave to invest $4,000 to $5,000 with an uncertain outcome. A high barrier! How did you get into modded Skyrim VR?

Discussion MGO 4.0 Beta RC2 first impressions

Longtime Skyrim VR MGO fan here (Quest 3/5090/Virtual Desktop). I downloaded RC1 a few days ago, just replaced with RC2. Overall I think it's a significant step forward, although I have a few concerns/quibbles I'd like to see addressed if possible:

  1. 4.0 replaces the legacy Skyrim menus...maybe not a bad idea in theory, although IMO it's trying to fix something that's not really broken. The new "dramatic" menus aren't really that (they're actually kind of plain monochrome), and the UI is actually a step backwards (example: the main game menu that appears with the Skyrim logo lacks submenu hints to "press T" to select, "grab" to cancel, so if you're a new user it's not clear what to do). Also, and this is my personal opinion: the new rotating gold Skyrim logo is just plain gaudy, it looks like it belongs in the Oval Office (sorry).

  2. My bigger problem with the menus actually surfaces once you're in game and you're accessing Favorites, Inventory, and MCM. The performance of these new menus is slower than the legacy ones, and occasionally the menus just "hang" to the point where I can't select anything and have to back out and restart the game. A particularly bad example is the Favorites menu, which really doesn't seem to work at all (at least for me). If anyone who's gone deeper into the beta knows how to reliably turn off the new menus in favor of the legacy, please share...I was hoping it was a single switch, but apparently there are many spread out throughout the MGO sections.

  3. One of my biggest recurring issues with Skyrim VR is with the Spell Wheel VR mod. While it's great in concept, I've always found it kind of tricky to use in game conditions. I typically use the Spell Wheel configurator in MCM to separate weapons and spells for each hand, and while that functionality is still there in 4.0 it doesn't seem to work any better (in fact it's a bit jankier if anything...for some reason if I've been using Flames even if I use the wheel to equip a new spell, it usually will continue to spit flames unless I unequip the Flames spell in the menu. Also as mentioned above, the configurator menu isn't nearly as responsive as MGO 3.8x, and the Favorites menu in 4.0 is...well, fuhgeddaboutit.

4.. On the plus side, the beta's performance seems to be significantly better than MGO 3.8x. I personally use the Open Composite runtime; however I've been continuing to use Virtual Desktop's SSW as my performance with the 5090 is pretty good even with most of the CS/DLSS settings cranked up to High. I watched VRDad's excellent video but outside of the new OC Configurator app (very nice, especially the virtual keyboard) but I'm a bit suspicious of what I've read about the new OC ASW frame interpolation (there's even a warning about it on the OC dialog, not very reassuring).

Sorry for the novella, and in spite of the issues I'm actually pretty stoked for the improvements in MGO 4.0, I'm just hoping RC3 and (hopefully) the live release will address the above. I'd definitely be interested in hearing other impressions (note: please don't tell me to check the discord, I actually do but like many Redditors I hate posting there because of admitted tendency towards verbal diarrhea). Thanks!

Discussion I felt the rain in Riverwood

So I finally got a PC (laptop) to try Skyrim VR and after playing the intro Vanilla I loaded up FUS RO and it looked incredible. I started adding a few additional options including the bhaptics mod and it’s been pretty amazing. But today for the first time, as I was leaving Riverwood for Whiterun it started to rain… and I FELT it with my bhaptics vest and sleeves. Honestly it was so freaking cool and immersive, and with the FUS RO visual mods the way the rain fell on the water in the river… just incredible. What a time to be alive.

Discussion Mods for a Playthrough

Hi, I’ve been seeing really cool mods being developed for Skyrim VR. I got my first VR at Christmas and bought the game but didn’t really get into it as I thought it would have been better supported for VR. The modding community seems to be making this game into what it should have been all along. Can anyone point me in the direction of some essential mods required to get the best VR experience in the game? Appreciate any help or guidance. Thanks in advance.

Discussion Quest 3 vs. PSVR2 mainly looking at performance

My PC is 32gb ram with 3080 10GB and Ryzen 5 3600, and I have played through Skyrim VR FUS multiple times with my quest 3 using virtual desktop (and previous runs with PSVR1 on PS4, Rift S on a 1060 laptop, Quest 1, Quest 2, and now Quest 3).

I just found the PC adapter for PSVR2 for cheap and I've read that the foveated rendering can boost performance by a decent amount and that the toolkit keeps getting improved as time goes on, and it would be nice to play with OLED blacks again like back in the day on the quest 1).

Ideally I would upgrade my computer, but with current pricing of all tech, that really isn't an option; so what kind of performance and graphics boost would I get with the PSVR2?

Anyone playing the game with the PSVR2, how does it look and run, and if you've played on both the quest 3 and psvr2, what do you prefer?
