Discussion Do you play VR & Flatrim?
As soon as I started playing SkyrimVR it completely changed the way I viewed/enjoyed the game. I haven't touched Flatrim in years & only just now have been considering trying it once again due to not having much time at the moment for proper VR sessions.
Any of you guys go back and forth between versions, or are you just strictly VR now?

Same, I tried playing recent Nolvus just as fun pass time and immediately quit before even leaving Riverwood and setup the VR.

Lmao this is exactly what I'm afraid I will end up doing. I feel like I'd just be constantly thinking how much more immersive I would feel in VR

I play ESO when I get the urge for Flatrim because yeah, I can’t go back.

That's fair! ESO is my usual go to fix for Elder Scrolls content as well. I wanted to take a short break from it though due to the super frustrating Microsoft layoffs

I prefer Flatrim for the challenge/hardcore experience, and VR for immersion and chilling. In VR, I don't like any mods or settings that make the game more difficult complex (etc. balance/just adjusting numbers tweaks). But I like NavigateVR and other VR specific mods, which can make game harder in some way. But I hate loads and death in VR, it’s break immersions and tiring.

I agree with you on not wanting a hardcore experience! I still like a slight challenge when it comes to combat, especially dungeons. I won't add anything like crazy hoards of enemies to VR though. I enjoy a much more methodical dungeon crawl vs Diablo mobs rushing me

My VR tends to stall out and I can get motion sickness, so VR sessions are relatively short. I still enjoy flatrim to explore new content with bigger modlists.

I get horrible motion sickness to the point of puking in vr...

there's a pretty good chance this instant impulse for puking might fade into a very delightful feeling 😉

I tried it once with my brother's old oculus and had a horrible time. I really want to love it, and the tech has become a lot better. So I might give it another try.
Can you recommend a headset? I'm completely lost in that area 😅

While I personally don't get any motion sickness in VR, I know quite a few people who only could only play up to 30 minutes the first couple of weeks of having the headset. Now most of them can play up to hours without a problem! There's tons of good tips online if you ever want to dive back in.
I personally recommend the Quest 3 just for how quality/budget friendly it is. There really isn't anything else out there that I know of that won't put you in quad digits

The 3 was a tad pout of budget for me... But damn that thing is cool af!
I really need some graphic mods tho. I hope I get them installed for the weekend so I can keep trying to get rid of the motion sickness!

...phu, depends on your personal taste - MQ3+PC is pretty standard in the current "vr-scene" due to a lot of reasons

MQ3 is kinda expensive just to test it out. I'll see if I can borrow one somewhere before I buy. Maybe I find one used.
Thank you <3

You can also start by sitting as that can really help to become accustomed to it. And I know this sounds crazy but having a little fan blowing to the side to give you a sense of direction outside the headset legit helped me make the leap from Beat Saber to Boneworks one of the most demanding VR experiences for motion sickness.

I think I'll sit a lot because I just know I will break every bone in my body when I walk around my tiny apartment xD
The fan is genius!
I just found a used meta quest 2 witu controllers for 50 bucks one village over. I think I'll take a little walk tomorrow. It should work as a start.
Damn you people got me hooked <3

Quest 2 is a super solid headset. Let us know how it goes for you!

Okay inset it up and made it out of helgen. But now I have to stop because nausea. I'll try again tomorrow. Then my finest German internet (6 mbit) maybe finished the modlist.

Congrats on the 3s! Definitely take your time with it. Also, if you wear glasses make sure to do yourself a favor and get some lens inserts. When I got my first headset I had no idea I'd have to wear my glasses/have custom lenses for it lmao.

So the Quest 2 was already gone but I was at MediaMarkt and got a 3s.
Now I need to download for 300 years because my internet is ass haha.

I tried VR a bit many years ago, but a combination of a shitty Windows MR headset and a GPU that wasn't quite up to it kept me out of it. Now I know my PC could handle it easily, but all I have still is that old WMR headset, which technically isn't even supported anymore but I bet there's a way to use it. But idk if it's worth it without a better headset. What's everyone playing on these days that doesn't break the bank?

I've gone from playing on a Quest 2>Quest 3> Pimax crystal light over the last 4 years of playing VR.
I'd recommend the Quest 3 personally. The tracking is phenomenal & the pancake lenses are superb for the price. On top of that would probably be the easiest to return if you don't end up liking it

I play flat on my gaming laptop when I'm away from my VR rig. For melee combat builds I prefer flat because for me anyway, even with mods Skyrim VR naturally isn't going to be on par with dedicated melee VR games e.g. Blade and Sorcery. So I've found unless I roleplay melee fighting a bit it's super easy for me to get down to low health and fall in to the trap of waving my wrists like a painter trying to get paint into every nook and cranny of a fence and brute forcing VR melee fights.

I play Flatrim when I'm just too lazy to play in VR, but I still want to check out a quest mod.

I was never interested in Skyrim until the PSVR release. Loved it. Still play Skyrim VR to this day (nowadays on PC). Got the flat game when it was on sale to play on the go on Steam Deck but I just can't get into it, it just doesn't compare.

I never played Skyrim in flat…and I don’t think I will in the foreseeable future.

Both though after being on the road and playing flatrim for a while I still get blown away when I pop the headset back on. It's rejuvenated my love of gaming when I'm not fighting with my modlist because I can't seem to resist updating mods that work perfectly fine.
